Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

AverywarmwelcometoBathRacecourseforThe WhitsburyManorStudLansdownFillies’StakesEvening

This evening, we are delighted to host the Lansdown Fillies Stakes, kindly sponsored by Whitsbury Manor Stud which is one of our two Listed races in our race programme.

This was won last year by the Richard Hannon trained, Happy Romance which following victory here, went on to run in a host of Group races through the season.

This highlights the standard of horse we will get to see here this evening in the feature race, and I would like to wish all owners and trainers of horses tonight the very best of luck for this evening and for the remainder of the season.

We are delighted to have Whitsbury Manor Stud sponsor all races this evening, extending the partnership between the stud and ourselves.

Whitsbury Manor Stud have a fantastic array of sires standing currently, including Showcasing, Havana Grey, Sergei Prokofiev, Lope Y Fernandez and Dragon Symbol who is new for 2024. It is a privilege to welcome the team from Whitsbury Manor this evening and I would love to wish them a memorable evening.

It will be great to see so many faces back at Bath for our first of our seven evening fixtures of 2024. Looking ahead, we have a very exciting race schedule this year with our upcoming Dino Family raceday being on the bank holiday on Monday 6th May.

Further ahead, we have Ladies Day on Saturday 15th June and our Cider Festival with music from The Wurzels on Saturday 17th August, two special highlights that are worth noting in your calendar.

We hope you have a wonderful evening with us, and we hope to welcome you back to other racedays throughout 2024.

Wishing you a very enjoyable evening from all at Bath Racecourse.

We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): W Muir & C Grassick (4 wins from 8 runners, 50%) runs SNAPCRACKLEPOP

WEIGHTWATCHER: HAVANA GOLDRUSH won off a handicap mark of 64, his rating is now down 14lb to 50.

LONGEST TRAVELLER: THREE YORKSHIREMEN trained by M Wigham, Newmarket, 155 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

THREE YORKSHIREMAN hasn’t had much racing for his current yard and stepped up to score readily at Chelmsford recently, so he’s capable of defying a penalty if in the same mood. Raqraaq is considered the main danger despite having a 5-month break to overcome and Johnjay needs considering as he bids to make another winning reappearance.

RACE SUMMARY

KING OF SPEED has finished runner-up all three starts since his latest success at Wolverhampton in February and, with conditions no problem back on turf, this consistent 5-y-o is taken to get his head back in front. Golden Phase is another consistent type and she will be a major player if raring to go back from a break here, while Racing Demon has dipped to a dangerous mark and also enters calculations, along with Covert Mission and Lilandra.
