CHARITY RACEDAY Y BOOK NOW doncaster-racecourse.co.uk FRIDAY 31MAY sponsored by y ed

Good afternoon and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for the first of our Summer Saturday Series racedays.

We’d like to thank today’s sponsors Yates Drywall Ltd and Racing Welfare for their most generous and continued support.

Doncaster Racecourse is proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week this week, which is an annual Mental Health Foundation campaign encouraging people to come together to focus on creating a world with good mental health for all. This year’s theme is: “Movement: Moving more for our mental health.” The benefits of being physically active are well documented, with 62% of adults agreeing that exercise helps them to manage their mental health, and those who participate in daily physical activity have a 30% lower risk of depression

Racing Welfare are leading the horse racing industries response in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of looking after our mental health by encouraging workplaces to host a ‘big walk’. The aim is to inspire everyone to step away from their routines, take a leisurely stroll and relax. Walking is proven to reduce stress and has a positive impact on both mental and physical wellbeing Workplace walking can also be a sociable activity which has the added value of providing an opportunity to network with colleagues.

Our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and resident tipster Roger Hart will be in the Parade Ring at around 16:30pm to run through today’s runners and riders and hopefully pick you out some winners!

Don’t miss Undivided who will be performing live in the main hall after racing, with hits from some of the biggest boy bands in pop history!!!!

We are also joined today by Julius Francis, a former British & Commonwealth Heavyweight boxing champion and proud owner of the converted Lonsdale Belt. He fought some of the World’s best in Axel Schulz, Danny Williams, Vitali Klitschko and notably went two rounds with the great ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. Julius will be meeting & mingling with our customers in the main hall throughout the day.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of our Summer Saturday Series! Our next event is Summer Anthems featuring Chris Moyles on 1st June followed by Indie Icons featuring Kaiser Monkey Killers on 29th June. On 20th July we bring you 80s Rewind featuring 80s Explosion and in August, This is Tennessee featuring One Night in Nashville on 3rd August and finally, The Near As Tour featuring Kaylei as Taylor Swift on 17th August

We recently launched our Town Moor Business Club This new initiative will allow local businesses and our corporate members to gain more exposure for their organisation via advertising & sponsorship It will allow them to collaborate more closely with one and other via regular networking opportunities, gain more exposure at the course and online as well as having access to exclusive offers & discounts To find out more please visit our website or speak to one of the team.

Our flagship fixture, the Betfred St Leger Festival is just round the corner, taking place 12th – 15th September! The highlight of Doncaster’s social calendar, we welcome visitors from all over the country to Town Moor for this four-day festival including the World’s oldest Classic –the St Leger Stakes. Star

Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Mental Health Awareness Week

13 - 19 May 2024

MOVEMENT

Racing staff and racecourse staff are wearing green ribbons today to show their commitment to raising awareness and ending the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year is Movement: Moving more for our mental health. Movement is important for our mental health. But so many of us struggle to move enough. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood or around your workplace, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!

Racing Welfare is committed to providing accessible, tailored mental health and wellbeing support services to all of racing’s workforce.

We offer confidential support through Racing’s Support Line 0800 6300 443 www.racingwelfare.co.uk

WEIGHTWATCHER: DARK JEDI won off a handicap mark of 95, his rating is now down 17lb to 78. LONGEST TRAVELLER: TWO PAST EIGHT trained by A King, Barbury Castle, 176 miles.

A few in with a squeak but having gone like the best horse at the weights when third at Southwell last month, CHURCHELLA is clearly still on a mark she can win from when things fall right so gets the vote ahead of Caustic, who makes his handicap debut and ought to be even better on turf. Merrijig failed to meet expectations under testing conditions at Ripon 3 weeks ago, so he rounds off the shortlist back on a sounder surface.
