Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

Averywarmwelcometooureveningflatmeetingon Wednesday15thMay.

We have kicked the season off in fantastic style and have alreadywelcomed over 10,000 spectators through the gates so far this season, and we are looking forward to what the rest of the season brings. We have had some incredibly competitive racing during the start of our season and I would like to thank all Owners & Trainers for choosing to run their horses with ourselves to date and the very best of luck to all runners this evening.

As you will see in the racecard, we have a number of exciting races occurring this evening. All our races are sponsored byYeeehaaa Bet, who I would like to personally thank for their support of our raceday this evening.

You may have noticed recently on social media that we have announced that Ludo Sports Bar has become the official sports bar of Bath Racecourse which is something we are really excited about. As part of the partnership, ifyou are venturing down into town after the race meeting, you can get 20% off on Food and Drink by showing your race ticket on the raceday. The bar is located next to the train station, close to our shuttle bus drop off point.

In addition to this fantastic concession, annual members receive 20% off all year round as a new added perk to their membership. Ifyou are interested in becoming an annual member, please do visit ourwebsite for further details and to book.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our raceday employees who have worked tirelessly during the start of this season. I would like to thank you foryour continued commitment and dedication. We always receive outstanding feedback about the excellent service you provide on all of our fixtures throughout the season, so I would like to express my gratitude for all of your hard work.

We hope you have a wonderful evening with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon to another 2024 fixture.

Wishing you a very enjoyable evening from all at Bath Racecourse.

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT BATH

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing

surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

Mental Health Awareness Week

13 - 19 May 2024

MOVEMENT

Racing staff and racecourse staff are wearing green ribbons today to show their commitment to raising awareness and ending the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

The theme for Mental Health Awareness Week this year is Movement: Moving more for our mental health. Movement is important for our mental health. But so many of us struggle to move enough. Going for a walk in your neighbourhood or around your workplace, putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room, chair exercises when you’re watching television – it all counts!

Racing Welfare is committed to providing accessible, tailored mental health and wellbeing support services to all of racing’s workforce.

We offer confidential support through Racing’s Support Line 0800 6300 443 www.racingwelfare.co.uk

The superbly-bred IMITATE can be expected to leave the form of her 2-y-o debut well behind and she gets the nod. Newcomer Arabian Rose looks the part on paper and she will be particularly interesting if strong in the betting, while Ghaihaban is likely to be on the premises. The selection’s stablemate Islanova, Hey Big Spender and Ravishing Beauty should all improve but Painite’s limitations have seemingly been exposed.

PAK ARMY scored over C&D on his return to the Flat last season and, having turned in a respectable effort over hurdles at Taunton 3 weeks ago, he’s fancied to follow suit this year Hill Spirit is one of few others to arrive on the back of a creditable effort and he’s still unexposed in this sphere, while Hurtle should benefit from the refitting of cheekpieces, so they’re both considered.

BOBBY KENNEDY is well capable from this sort of mark and he simply bumped into one when second over C&D on return. That rival has gone in again since, so he’s worth a chance to go one better at the possible expense of Asense, who was two places behind the selection that day. Virtual Hug is also considered.

Preference is for RASMAH, who looks to be being brought along gradually and Archie Watson’s filly can build on her recent handicap/turf debut sixth at Brighton just over a fortnight ago at the expense of Our Papa Smurf, who ran his best race returning from 6 months off when finishing runner-up in that same contest. Thrilling Dream and Magic Rascal are both surely capable of more than they’ve shown so far, and they round off the shortlist.
