The Academic Scholars Program (ASP) aims to develop:
Critical thinking
Curiosity
Independence of thought
Articulacy and enthusiasm
Different ways of thinking
Connections between different fields of study.
Edmund Rice believed it was essential to ‘challenge those who succeed with the maintenance of the status quo, to liberate them from self-centred thinking Thus liberation is not limited to those mad, poor and marginalised but to all people’ This opportunity has been created to challenge the boys and liberate them from limited ways in which they confine their thinking
Our students provide suggestions for the ASP topics, assuring relevant and engaging content. The range is constantly evolving to suit the interests and needs of the group and keeping abreast of changes in the world around us.
“Wonder is the desire of knowledge.”
Saint Thomas Aquinas

Some feedback from students who have taken part in the programme:
“ASP is a great opportunity for students to extend themselves in different areas around school. Whether it be robotics, drones, solar powered cars, or anything in between, ASP allows kids to follow their interests and learn in more hands-on experiences. There's something for everyone and it is a great environment to learn and have fun that I have enjoyed over the years ”
“My first year in ASP was a lot of fun. I experienced activities and projects that I never would have in a standard classroom, and I met people from other years who I wouldn’t normally get to meet
It’s a great way to share experiences with others and to learn new things that are hard to find anywhere else.”
