workPATH‌ Program Information and Student Code of Conduct‌

1. Purpose‌‌ Students have rights and responsibilities as members of the Aquinas College community. To ensure all students are treated with respect and fairness—and are provided with a supportive, stimulating learning environment to pursue their goals—Aquinas College outlines the following expectations and responsibilities.‌‌

2. Scope‌‌ This policy applies to all enr‌olled students at Aquinas C‌ollege, including those undertaking workplace learning placements thro‌ugh workPATH.‌

3. Student Code of Conduct‌‌ 3.1 General‌ Students must follow the conduct policies of both Aquinas College and INSTEP and their host workplace‌ provider.‌ 3.2 Expectations‌ Minimum 90% attendance and punctuality.‌ Correct sign-in/out via the Aquinas College App.‌‌ Respectful and appropriate behaviour while at placement.‌ Timely submission of logbooks, skills journals and all other required documentation.‌ Respect for safety, others, and property.‌‌ Zero tolerance for property damage, drugs, smoking, or alcohol.‌‌ 3.3 Consequences‌ Students will receive a Notice of Concern.‌‌ A behaviour report card will be issued for continuous breaches.‌‌ Students may lose Good Standing at the College, i.e., driving privileges and representing in sporting‌ ‌teams.‌‌ Breaches may lead to removal from the program by the Director of VET and Director of myFUTURE‌ ‌following College policies.‌‌ 3.4 Expectations for Students‌ Students must:‌‌ Respect the rights of all students and staff regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion,‌ ‌culture, ability, or age.‌‌ Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety requirements of the program.‌ Follow reasonable directions from the workplace learning supervisor and/or those outlined in your‌ ‌agreement.‌

3.5 Expectations for Staff‌ Staff must:‌‌ Not tolerate offensive behaviour, bullying, harassment, or physical/verbal assault.‌ Report any unsafe behaviour.‌‌ Exclude individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs.‌ Report criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.‌ 3.6 Student Behaviour means‌‌ 3.6.1‌

Any conduct that impacts the student learning environment an‌d‌learning of others, including‌inappropriate conduct toward a staff member, external guest, or WPL supervisor.‌

3.6.2‌

Student behaviour points allocation‌ Students will be allocated 5 points per academic year for behaviour incidents.‌ ‌ Each incident is equivalent to 1 point. If a student reaches this quota, it is the right of the host employer‌ ‌and Aquinas College myFUTURE department to withdraw students from the program OR place them in an‌ ‌alternative learning arrangement.‌ After this point, it is likely that students will not complete the work hours within the allocated placement‌ ‌time.‌ No refunds of placement fees will be provided if a student is removed after 4 weeks from the placement‌ ‌start date.‌‌ Two or more incidents within one day of delivery will result in a Notice of Concern.‌ Multiple incidents within one day of work placement will result in an after-school detention.‌‌ Any repeated behaviours on multiple days of delivery will result in a Saturday detention. In this instance, loss of good standing and representing the college in calendared activities such as sports, drama, music, or arts programs may be affected.‌‌

3.6.3‌

Unacceptable behaviour includes‌‌ Situations that constitute a danger to anyone’s health, safety, or personal well-being will not be tolerated.‌ ‌It includes physical abuse, threatening behaviour, harassment, discrimination, victimisation, or bullying‌ ‌(including cyber-bullying), possession of dangerous weapons, or the creation of a condition that‌ ‌endangers or threatens the health, safety or well-being of self or others. ‌‌ Conduct that disrupts staff and hinders them from services or other services in an orderly manner. Any‌ ‌individual or group behaviour that is abusive, indecent, violent, excessively noisy, disorderly, dangerous,‌ ‌and offensive or which unreasonably disturbs other groups or individuals is prohibited.‌‌

3.6.4‌

Aquinas College students will not‌ Engage in behaviour that is discriminatory, intimidating, harassing, sexually harassing, bullying (including‌ ‌cyber-bullying), or engage in any form of interpersonal, psychological, sexual, or physical violence. ‌‌ Behave in a manner that is abusive, indecent, excessively noisy, disorderly, dangerous or which‌ ‌unreasonably disturbs other groups or individuals ‌‌ Use inappropriate language ‌‌ Behave disruptively on the worksite – either on campus or online ‌‌ Unreasonably disrupt, interfere, or undermine college activities or hinder members of staff from fulfilling‌ ‌their duties. ‌‌ Interact or correspond with others in an upsetting manner. This may include repetitive or burdensome‌ ‌communication over matters that are considered resolved, are subject to review or appeal, have been‌ ‌previously the subject of a feedback (complaints) process, or have been addressed in previous‌ ‌communication. ‌

Engage in communication, including digital and social media, written or otherwise, that may be damaging to the reputation or welfare of others, the College or INSTEPWest while on work placement. This also includes but is not limited to unauthorised recording of dialogue, taking of photographs or filming without permission or authorisation.‌‌ Students will not require the use of headphones or music platforms unless approved by the workplace supervisor. In general, phones are not permitted on the worksite.‌

4. Attendance — WorkPATH qualifications‌‌ 4.1 Attendance Procedures‌‌ Students must:‌‌ Main‌tain a minimum of 90% attendance for the duration work placement.‌ Failure to adhere to these requirements will reserve the right of INSTEP and Aquinas. College VET‌ ‌department to withdraw students from the program OR place them in an alternative learning‌ ‌arrangement.‌‌ At this point in time, it is likely that students will not successfully complete the program within the‌ ‌allocated placement period.‌‌ Situations that do not impact 90% minimum attendance.‌‌ School retreats, ‌‌ Camps, ‌‌ PSA Sport (Friday only) ‌‌ Medical / sickness with a medical certificate‌‌ Specialist appointments with proof of appointment ‌‌ Situations that will impact the 90% minimum attendance‌‌ Leave early requests submitted less than 24 hours before signing out, ‌‌ General leave early requests,‌‌ Leave requests not approved or completed via the absence form, ‌‌ Student absent form not completed by a parent or guardian,‌‌ Medical appointments, ‌‌ Driving lessons,‌‌ School balls or socials, ‌ Family holidays during a school term‌‌ Other situations are deemed non-essential and can be arranged on alternative days‌‌

workPATH placements may c‌ontinue through school exam breaks unless otherwise advised.‌ If no work is available on a schedule day, students must attend regular Aquinas College classes or‌ ‌supervised study.‌ Contact ‌wpl@aquinas.wa.edu.au‌for schedule clashes.‌

5. Resources, Uniform and Food‌‌ 5.2 Program-Specific Uniform Requirements‌‌ Students must wear‌appropria‌te clothing according to their placement:‌‌ T‌his includes:‌‌ Relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)‌‌ Specific placement attire as required by the workplace‌

6. Program Completion Requirements‌ 6.1 General‌ To receive credit for Workplace Learning students must:‌‌ Complete all Logbook and Skills Journal requirements‌‌ Submit all work on time and complete any required documentations, e.g. WorkSafe SmartMove‌

7. Student Progress Reporting‌ 7.1 General‌‌ For the workPATH program, student progress will be included in Aquinas College academic reports each‌ semester.‌‌ Logbooks must be completed to an acceptable standard.‌‌ Performance reviews must be returned by the student’s workplace supervisor.‌ Skills journal questions must be completed in a timely manner.‌‌ Aquinas College must adhere to the policies set by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority‌ ‌(SCSA).‌‌

8. workPATH fees Policy‌ 8.1 General‌‌ WPL costs are included in Aquinas College Term 1 school fees‌‌ Withdrawing mid-placement may incur charges‌‌ F‌inance-related inquiries should be directed to the College Accounts Office‌‌ 8.2 Refunds‌‌ Full refund eligibility:‌‌ Unable to source a work placement.‌‌ Important Notes:‌‌ Non-attendance does not equal withdrawal.‌‌ Withdrawal must be in writing and addressed to the myFUTURE office.‌ You must speak to the myFUTURE staff before formally withdrawing.‌ Failure to officially withdraw may result in a liability for all fees.‌

Special Considerations:‌‌ Special circumstances (e.g., severe illness) may be eligible for review with supporting documentation.‌‌ C‌ompleted Special Circumstances Form.‌‌ Incidental fees are non-refundable.‌‌ Full refunds are not guaranteed for post-enrolment withdrawals without valid reason.‌‌

10. Policy Compliance and Review‌‌ Breaches of this code of conduct will be addressed in accordance with the Aquinas College Senior School Student Code of Conduct and the Senior School Good Standing Procedures.‌‌
