TheMiddleSchoolcomplex,whichwillopena fewmonthsafterthePerformanceCenter, promisestobeequallyimpressive,withstateof-the-artclassroomsandlaboratoriesfor generationsoffutureworld-changingAOSR students.

AOSR’sInternationalBaccalaureate(IB)andAdvanced Placement(AP)scorescontinuetosurpassworldaverages. SincetheCOVIDpandemic,ourstudentshaveshownstrong scores,withmorestudentsgainingaccesstotheseadvanced programs AOSRsupportscontinuedgrowthwiththevision ofmaintainingresultsandfindingpathwaysforallstudents. Supportwasdemonstratedthisyearbyfundingaself-study onreturnedexamscomponentsAP/IB,robusthiringand retainingofqualifiedstaff(keepingtheirtraininguptodate), anddeliberatecounselingtostudentsandfamiliesofpossible pathways.

Asthedisruptionofthepandemicreceded,the HighSchoolcontinueditseffortstorestore normalcy.Thatrestorationincludednotonlythe reducednecessityofpandemicpreventionmeasures butalsoapurposefulemphasisonreinforcing learningbehaviorsandexpectations We discontinuedhybridlearningandconcentratedon renewingthebestelementsofin-personinstruction. Fromthestartoftheyear,theHighSchool emphasizedtheAOSRsharedvalueofintegrity, particularlytheimportanceofacademicintegrity andtheteachingandlearninghabitsthatfosterit.

Thefacultycontinuedtorefineassessmentstoalign withtheexpectationsoftheexternalInternational BaccalaureateandAdvancedPlacementexamsthat almostallAOSRstudentstakeduringhighschool Withaninfluxofnewstudentsingrade12,our seniorclassgrewto63students,25%ofwhom pursuedtheIBDiploma,apercentagematchedby grade11 Wecompletedour5-yearcyclicalreview withtheIBOrganization,whichprovideduswitha highlycomplimentaryreportonourprogramand helpfulfeedbacktoguideitscontinuous improvement.OurAPprogramremainedrobust, withstudentstaking19distinctAPcourses

TheAOSRCounselingDepartmentguideshighschool studentsandtheirparentsinmakingtheirplansforlife afterAOSR. Weworkcloselywithfamiliestoidentify aims,aspirations,lifestylerequirements,andpreferences andtocorrelatethesewithuniversitiesandotherformsof highereducationwhichmatchthestudent’sneeds We lookforopportunitiesthatenableeachstudenttothrive, findingthe“rightfit”isourtoppriority.

AOSRheldthePSATinOctoberandtheSATfivetimes oncampus,includingsuccessfullyholdingthenewdigital SATforthefirsttimethisspring Eachweek,acollege counselingnewsletterwassenttofamiliesinGrades9-12. Thisnewsletterincludesin-personandvirtualevents information,linksforinterestingarticlesandrecorded sessions,summerprograms,competitions,gapyears, opportunitiestoexploredifferentcareers,andspecific optionsbycontinent. WeheldasessioninSeptemberfor Grade12familiestoexplaintheapplicationprocessanda sessioninFebruaryforGrade11familiestoexplain differentuniversitysystems WeattemptedaSummer InternshipProgrambutwereunsuccessfulduetoalow numberofsponsors;wewilltryagainnextsummer.On June21,weheldaCareerDayforGrades9-11,with17 communitymembersspendingthemorningwithusto offerindividualworkshopsandsitonpanels Inthe afternoon,studentswereexposedtoRoadTripNation, Concourse,andournewplatformCialfo. Ourcommunity,andtheabilityofparentsto supportthatcommunity,isoneofthemanyfactors thatmakeAOSRuniqueintheInternationalSchool landscapeinRome The2022-2023schoolyear focusedonreturningto“normal”inthepost-Covid era Well-lovedtraditionswerebroughtbackand reinvented,andneweventsweretested.We continuedtofulfillourmissionofBuilding CommunityandBringingJoytothestudents,staff, andfamiliesintheAOSRCommunity Ourprimary goalwastocontinuetoexpandthescopeand numberofeventsandexpandourvolunteergroup TheAOSRPTOstrivestobeaninclusive organizationwherevolunteersfromallbackgrounds feelwelcome.Wetakeprideinboththelevelof involvementofourvolunteersandoftherich diversityofexperiencetheybringtobuildingand improvingourcommunity.Thisyearwehad130 adultvolunteers,toincludeparentsandteachers We alsohadcountlessstudentvolunteers,throughour workingrelationshipwiththefacultyadvisorsforthe NationalHonorSocietyandAthleticsDepartment. Weheldorsupported12BoosterBars,25Popcorn Wednesdays,10oncampusevents,sevenoffcampus events,andprovidedadditionalsupportforeight events.ThetotalnumberofactivitiesthePTO supportedorcarriedoutwas62!

OnOctober2022,wecelebrated75yearsofacademicexcellenceinRomeandhadawonderfulpartyonour historiccampus

TheeveningweincludedtypicalItaliancuisine,dancing,toursoftheschool,andafundraisingeventforour300+ alumnithatjoinedusforthismomentousoccasion.Inthe2022-2023academicyear,ourcommunityhashelped usraisejustover108,000EUR,alsothankstotheincredibleworkofourPTO,whichraised15,000EURtowards therenovationoftheoutdoorareabehindthecafeteria

AmericanOverseasSchoolofRome,Inc isrecognizedasanon-profitorganizationbytheIRS(Section501(c) (3)).Donationsaretax-deductible,andalldonorsreceiveanofficialletterofrecognitionfromtheHeadofSchool andtheAOSRTaxIdentificationNumbertoassistinfiling.
