This year the President of the Matawan Italian American Association Society, Vincent J. Riggio, had the pleasure of awarding three scholarships to high school students to help with college expenses.

Each student was required to write a 500 word essay about what growing up as an ItalianAmerican means to them and how they plan to use the scholarship.

The following are the students who received the scholarships: graduating from Keyport H.S., Jezzle Mae Avinion, from Sayreville H.S., Julia McAndrew, and from Marlboro H.S., Alexander Smith.

Avinion is the granddaughter of Aurora Marzano and will be attending Raritan Valley College. McAndrew is the granddaughter of Lorraine and Michael Cioffi and will attend Brookdale Community College. Smith is the grandson of Vincent J. Riggio and son of Santa Riggio and will pursue his studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University. For details on how your child or grandchild may become eligible to receive a scholarship from the Matawan Italian American Association Society, please call Barbara Gianguzzi at 732-979-3563.
