MAYOR ALTOMONTE MESSAGE

We’ve had an exciting couple of months in the Borough with events and celebrations, and it has been great to see so many people out and about enjoying our town. The once-in-a-lifetime celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the Burrowes Mansion was a massive success! First, we were thankful to have Monmouth County Commissioner Lillian Burry, the first woman elected in Matawan, stop by, and we thanked her for all she did to preserve the Burrowes Mansion. I was proud to see over 2,000 people lining our streets to watch the re-enactment, participate in the encampment behind the mansion, tour the mansion, and learn about our rich history. Throughout the years, it has been a priority for my administration to restore the mansion and honor our unique history of the Borough while moving the town forward.

The weekend was only possible because of months of planning, and I want to thank all of our many volunteers, the Matawan Historical Society; Kuris Roinstead, our town historian; Cathy Zavorskas, the President of the MHS; our generous sponsors; the Black Powder group for the encampment and re-enactment, and anyone who made this weekend a success. It couldn’t have happened without countless hours of dedication from people who truly care about Matawan, and I’m grateful. If you missed it, the Matawan Historical Society recorded the event, and it will be available for viewing at an upcoming date with the Matawan Historical Society, so please look for an announcement coming soon.
