Locally and around the globe…

Bone appétit! Pet-Friendly Restaurant Offers $40 Steak For Your Dog Forget the doggie bag. The Wilson, a restaurant in New York City, is now offering a special dog friendly menu that is available to four legged friends coming in to dine with their humans. The chef crafted dog menu includes a $42 ribeye steak, complete with steak jus and grilled baby vegetables. The meal can actually be shared with a person via a regular plate or it can be served in a traditional dog food bowl. "This is a very dog friendly neighborhood. We have a lot of really furry friends and so we decided to go for it," Jesse Mero, a front of house manager at The Wilson, While the biggest splurge at the eatery is the steak, the menu also includes plenty of other options to treat good boys and girls, where they will be served alongside their owners on the restaurant's side patio or front terrace.

New Orleans UPS Driver Delivers Some Serious Cuteness With Pics of Neighborhood Dogs Maybe the "p" in UPS should stand for "pooch."

At $28, the pan-roasted salmon, which is served with steamed vegetables and lemon, is the second most expensive item on the menu.

Jason Hardesty has a serious case of puppy love. The 30-year-old UPS driver from New Orleans has won fans for posting photos of dogs along his delivery route onto his Instagram page @jhardesty, using the hashtag #pupsofjay.

For dogs on a diet, or those simply looking to skip a workout at the dog park, the "spa day" menu includes lighter fare. A bowl of sliced apples and carrots costs $11, while a bowl of mixed berries will set an owner back $14. All of these items can also be shared with a human.

Hardesty says he first took photos of some pooches when he got assigned a new route about two years ago. “I just saw a really cute dog and asked a customer if I can take a picture of their dog."

From there, the idea blossomed and he created the #pupsofjay hashtag. Hardesty, who’s been driving for UPS for seven years, remains modest about his account, which currently has over 68K followers! While Hardesty's pup pictures are winning the internet, his Instagram is also home to some gorgeous pics of the cities local architecture and unique, colorful homes around NOLA, and we are in love!

While news of the account has spread, Hardesty doesn’t let the hobby overshadow his actual job. “I discipline myself to only take photos on Friday nights,” he said, noting he does so because that’s the start of the weekend. He also keeps it to one day a week in order to make sure his Instagram page doesn’t get overrun with our four-legged friends.

Using a Martingale Collar on Your Dog?

We think you should be!

New dog owners often have to decide which collar is going to be best for their furry addition. When choosing a collar, there has recently been an increase in popularity for backout collars, otherwise known as martingale collars. Martingale collars have two loops that allow you to have more control over your dog.

How it Works

The larger of the two loops, which is usually adjustable in size, is placed around the dogs neck and adjusted to fit loosely. The leash is then clipped to the D ring on the small loop, also known as

the control loop. When the dog tries to pull their head out of the collar, the tension on the leash pulls the small loop taut, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter on the neck– preventing escape. When adjusted properly the dog is never choked, but the collar stays snug around the dog’s neck (just behind the ears) until the pressure is released.

Why Martingale Collars Are a Favorite Over Standard Collars The problem with standard buckle collars is that for the collar to be tight enough that it can’t slip over the ears when pulled forward by a dog backing up, it must be uncomfortably tight all the time. A martingale collar allows the dog to wear a comfortably loose collar that is only tight when it needs to be tight.

Gentle A regular, buckled non-martingale collar is supposed to be tight enough around your dog’s neck so that you can only fit two fingers

11 under the collar. To many, this seems too tight—especially when your dog is at home and not on a leash. Martingale collars solve this problem. When there is no pressure on the leash or when your pet is off-leash at home or playing, your pet’s martingale collar can hang comfortably around their neck. Martingales will only tighten when you need them to, and then, only to a certain point—unlike “choke” collars which just keep tightening and tightening. Martingales immediately loosen when pressure is released—meaning your pet will never have a constantly tightening feeling around his or her neck. With a martingale, there’s no need to keep a collar tight all the time just to make sure it won’t slip off when they are on a leash.

Keep Them Safe Prevents escape of scared, agressive, or excited dogs by securely contracting the entire collar when the dog pulls in any direction. If you have a nervous dog, foster dogs and just want that extra saftey with a dog who might slip his collar, the martignale collar is for you!

A little history . . . Martingale-style collars were originally used for sighthounds. Since sighthounds—such as greyhounds and whippets— have heads that are often smaller than their necks, traditional collars can slip right off. The martingale style was developed to keep the collar securely on the dog, even through that infamous “back-out” maneuver all dogs seem to know. They are the best, most humane collars for any breed or size dog.

Dog Friendly Fun in RI!

Pints with your Pooch! You may have heard, Rhode Island is home to some amazing breweries, many of which welcome your pup to cozy up to the bar right along with you! Some of our favorites are: Whalers – Nestled inside a large mill space, this brewery is super dog friendly...and everyone know that dogs make the ultimate wing man/ woman. Located at 1174 Kingstown Rd.,Wakefield, RI. Revival Brewing –(call ahead) This RI brewery has recently moved into a larger location and their outdoor patio is the perfect spot to share a pint with your best pooch! Located at 505 Atwood Ave., Cranston, RI. Foolproof Brewing Company – If

you're in the city with you pup and need a cold brew, don't miss this great brewery who welcome your dog in their outdoor patio. Located at 241 Grotto Avenue | Pawtucket, RI.

A table top pup at Whalers.

Doggie Day Tripping Don't wait until it's hot and crowded to visit some of the amazing islands within a stone's throw of the RI coast. Newport (technically an island) loves dogs! You can hop the Seastreak Ferry out of Providence and bring your best friend along.

Dogs are welcome onboard many trips, but they must be kept on the outdoor decks with a leash. Small dogs in a carrier can be brought inside the vessel. Our top pick for the ultimate day trip is Block Island, where most beaches and hikes are dog friendly, along with outdoor restaurants and many of the shops! Just hop on the Block Island Ferry and be prepared to run into other doggie day trippers on board! Dogs are invited both inside and on deck with the traditional ferry and deck side only on the Hi-Speed Ferry.

Pinot With Your Poodle! You don’t need to leave your best friend behind when you’re sipping, swirling, and touring these great Rhode Island wineries: Greenvale Vineyards in Portsmouth, RI is incredibly pet friendly and welcomes leashed, friendly dogs to take part in wine tastings, (inside) as well as tours of the Vineyard daily at 2pm through December, (weather permiting.) They also have live jazz on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm, which can be heard throughout the grounds. Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard in Little Compton, RI allows leashed dogs to walk the grape fields with their owners and relax on the many outdoor seating areas, however dogs are not allowed in any of the indoor spaces.

Polo If you think your dog can refrain from barking at the horses, the Polo Club plays every Saturday from June through September at Glen Farm and leashed dogs as well as tailgate picnics are welcome. Polo at Newport International Polo Series, 163 Glen Farm Road, Portsmouth, RI. www.nptpolo.com

Mr. Kitty

aka: Ken, Kenneth, Mr. Ken Kitty, Booby, Mr. Meow Meow, Gingey, Butthead...

May 2000 - April 11, 2019

Mr. Kitty was one of the first cats I met when I moved to Providence years ago – and I still have the scratch marks to prove it! I quickly became friends with his 'help', Craig and together we took over the top floor of our Wickenden St. apartment building, with our open door policy. Mr. Kitty was there when I started the Animal Print and Craig is now family. I would like to share the message Craig wrote to his friends on the day he said goodbye to Mr. Kitty. I will never forget you Mr. Ken Kitty! Stephanie - Animal Print editor "I know the standard joke is that I’m a cat guy- but 19 years ago I wasn’t a cat guy. I never grew up with one. I thought some were kind of nice, some were really weird, and some were kind of scary crazy. That was before this little guy entered my life by accident almost 19 years ago, and soon became my best little buddy. Through all the many apartments, roommates, partners, friends, late night parties, moves, house fires, burglaries, roof tops, porches & stoops- he’s been a constant, always there waiting for me to get home. I said goodbye to my best little buddy this morning, when he spent his last moments on this earth in one of his most happy places- my lap. To everyone who knew him, lived with him, got annoyed by him, sneezed because of him, partied with him, cat-sat him, or just saw my posts of him in costume- I hope he put a smile on your face like he always did on mine. He was a legendary cat- with the most cat character and who lived a storied cat life- and I was honored to be his human. It’s going to be very strange not having him there waiting for me when I get home. Though he can never be replaced, the cats of the world owe him a debt of gratitude for turning me into a cat guy. And apparently today is also National Pet Day- so I guess the lesson here is to love & cherish your pets from start to finish, through the good times & the really hard final end times. They are family & friends. I am going to miss him like crazy, but I know he’s now comfortable having endless tuna facials at the cat spa in the sky. And sorry for all the photos (Craig posted some amazing photos on his FB page) - but he was just so devastatingly handsome, photogenic & charming- it’s hard to stop."

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” - Dr. Seuss.

CURB STYLIN’ seen around town

Dog Jogging, Walking &

Off-Leash Excursions

Max & Frankie Where are you from?

Max: Rehoboth, MA Frankie: Outer space but don't tell my dad I'm an alien.

Describe your style.

Max: Professionally disheveled. Frankie: Naked.

If you had a superpower what would it be?

Max: Teleportation, OMG I would love the ability to be anywhere in the world in seconds. Frankie would, of course be with me. He's quite the food connoisseur and enjoys day trips. Frankie: Glad you asked, levitation. No counter would bar me from eating what everyone else was.

What's your favorite cheese?

Max: Ouuuuuu tough question. I like a good Brie paired with black berries or fresh figs on a pretzel cracker. Frankie: Whatever Max doesn't eat and doesn't see me eating.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Max: It's not some much of a concept as it is a practice. What makes me happiest is having time for myself to go surf Newport 2nd beach or write music. Frankie: Uninterrupted sleep on the entire bed... THE ENTIRE BED.

dog k tec Certified

If you could be any kind of animal, what would it be and why? Max: A hawk, because hawks are AWESOME! Frankie: Human, and I would eat all your cheese.
