Red, White and Blue at the Evans Town Hall
Recently the Evans-Brant Historical Society placed an exhibit at the Evans Town Hall. The display is a small version of the Erie County Fair exhibit. The fair’s theme this year was Red, White, and Blue. Society members created a series of flags representing various historical events. Included are an early Betsy Ross flag and the flag found in the rubble of 9/11. The display also features mannequins of Betsy Ross and Sam Wilson (the original Uncle Sam).

Lake Shore Central School District Named Champion of Cybersecurity Awareness Month For 2025
The Lake Shore Central School District has been named an official Champion of Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025 by the National Cybersecurity Alliance, joining a nationwide coalition of schools, businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies committed to keeping communities safe online.
Now in its 22nd year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a national initiative co-led by the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Each October, Champions use the campaign to spotlight threats like phishing, scams, and data breaches while promoting simple, effective habits anyone can adopt to stay secure.
“Cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility,” said Superintendent Phil Johnson. “As a Champion, Lake Shore is committed to educating our community about the small steps that make a big difference in staying safe online.”
This year, Lake Shore’s participation will extend far beyond a symbolic title. The district will run a month-long campaign across its schools and community channels, equipping families, students, and staff with clear, practical steps to protect their digital lives. From strengthening passwords to recognizing scams, the effort aims to take cybersecurity out of the IT office and put it into the hands of every parent, teacher, and student.
“Our role is to support the district and families with clear, helpful resources,” said Michelle Krieger, Lake Shore’s Data Protection Officer. “This month is about giving parents, students, and staff practical tools they can use every day.”
Throughout October, Lake Shore will highlight the campaign’s four pillars of online safety: using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, updating software, and recognizing and reporting scams. The district will share weekly cybersecurity tips and publish resources on its website at www.lakeshorecsd.org/cybersecurity.

University at Buffalo Presidential Scholar
Marisa Grieser of Lake View, NY, was named a 2025 Presidential Scholar at the University at Buffalo.
UB is New York State's flagship and the largest and most comprehensive institution in the State University of New York system.
Presidential Scholars are among the most academically accomplished students in the nation. Presidential Scholars who are New York State residents receive the Presidential Scholarship, valued at $15,000 annually, renewable for four years of undergraduate study.
"The Presidential Scholarship is UB's most competitive merit award," Patrick McDevitt, associate dean of undergraduate education and the Honors College, says. "Each year, between 25 and 30 Presidential Scholars are selected from nearly 40,000 applicants to the university. This elite group of future leaders all have demonstrated not only academic excellence, but the potential to impact the university and the wider world."
The 2025 Presidential Scholar Class welcomed 32 students - the largest cohort to date.
Presidential Scholars are admitted to the UB Honors College.
