A heartfelt thank you...

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who reached out with retirement wishes, phone calls, visits, and kind words over the past week. The retirement section dedicated to me in the December 14th issue of the Pennysaver was a complete surprise and truly brought me to tears. I am still overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness shown to me. Over the past 40 years, I’ve been blessed to work with so many wonderful people and businesses. The relationships, memories, and friendships I’ve made mean more to me than I can put into words. I will miss seeing all of you and truly hope our paths continue to cross when I’m out and about in the community. Most especially, I want to thank my coworker and dear friend, Kristen Green. Over the last 14 years—since the business was purchased by the new owners—she stood by my side through it all. She patiently walked me through every new piece of technology, from computers and copiers to phones and everything in between, always with kindness and plenty of laughter. She has become like a daughter to me, and her daughter like a granddaughter. There are no words that can adequately express the joy I’ve experienced in knowing her and her family. I am so grateful for this lifetime bond. I also want to sincerely thank James and Bob for asking me to stay on after the purchase of the Pennysaver from my family. That opportunity meant more to me than they may ever know and being here helped me through one of the most difficult times -- the loss of my beloved Al. Thank you all for being such an important part of my life’s journey. I carry each of you with me into this next chapter.

In friendship,

Rhonda (Guest) Davis

Lake Shore Raises $15,000 in Annual Polar Plunge Students and staff brave icy water to support Special Olympics

Lake Shore Central School District students and staff took part in the annual Polar Plunge at Woodlawn Beach, raising roughly fifteen thousand dollars to support Special Olympics of Western New York. The event brought together teams from Houston Middle School and Lake Shore High School, along with staff members who volunteered to jump into the cold water in support of inclusive athletic programs. The Houston Middle School team, Cool Runnings, led the effort by raising more than ten thousand dollars. Combined with the high school, Lake Shore delivered one of its strongest fundraising years. All funds directly support Special Olympics programs that sponsor Lake Shore’s Unified Bowling and Unified Basketball teams. These programs give students of all abilities the opportunity to compete, form connections, and represent their school. "This community continues to amaze me," said Timothy Smelser, Team Pride teacher and coordinator for Lake Shore Schools. "Our students stepped up, our staff stepped in, and the support from families and neighbors pushed us to a level that makes a real difference. Watching everyone plunge for a purpose reminds me why Lake Shore is such a special place." Lake Shore will continue to work closely with Special Olympics of Western New York throughout the year as Unified Bowling and Unified Basketball seasons begin. More opportunities for student involvement and community support will be shared as they develop. Contributed by Lake Shore CSD ___________ (716) 549-1164 • ANGOLA PENNYSAVER
