The Brant Fire Company
The Brant Volunteer Fire Company is located on the Brant-Farnham Road near Brant center. Through community efforts initiated by Peter Pero Sr., the fire company was established in February of 1956 with 107 local men on the roster. The first trucks and equipment were stored in Pete Pero’s repair shop prior to the completion of the fire hall later that same year. Peter Pero Sr. donated the land to build the new fire hall and he was also the first chief of the fire company.

We were fortunate that Margie Pero and Rosalee “Tish” Hill were able to help us name most of the firemen in the photo of the Brant Fire Company Marching Unit of 1959. Pictured in front of the fire truck are (L-R): Jack Fox, Herman Muscato, Peter Pero Jr., Charlie Minor, Bill Mackey, Unknown, David Pero, Vincent Ciminesi, Joseph Catalano, Vincent Ciminesi, Joseph Catalano, Frank Ciminesi, Sam Giglia and Joseph Muscato. Joyce Cureo and Doreen Vohn helped us complete names for the photo of 1966 which shows the firemen looking over their newly purchased 750 GPM pumper. The truck had a 3000 gallon tank. It was the second new truck purchased with help of a loan from Evans National Bank at a cost of $33,000. (L-R) are: Chester Grat, Ted Herc, Chief Pete Pero, Charlie Minor and David Pero Sr.
On a side note: in the Marching Unit photo, to the far left of the photo is the old Lehley Store, later sold to Joseph G. Joy. The store, no longer standing, was located where the Memorial Park is located today.
