DETAILED COMPANY GUIDELINES:

1. All totes must be placed at least 2 feet apart to allow trucks to safely and efficiently service each container. In the image below, the totes are too close together, which prevents automated equipment from properly accessing them.

2. Totes may not be overflowing. Lids must be fully closed to prevent litter, blowing debris, and unsafe collection conditions. Seen below, multiple totes are visibly overfilled, with bags and cardboard piled above and around containers.

3. Bulk pickup material must be placed separately from regular garbage and recycling. Bulk items should not be stacked against or mixed in with standard totes, as shown below. Combining bulk materials with regular setouts can prevent proper collection and may result in items being left behind.

For further information please visit www.moderncorporation.com or call Evans Town Hall at (716) 217-3529 closed, and set out seperately from any bulk materials. Following these guidelines ensures safe, efficient, and compliant collection for the entire community.

Youth Mental Health Summit Brings Region Together to Strengthen Support for Students

E2CCB’s leadership anchors the first SMART Youth Mental Health Summit

Over 350 educators, counselors, social workers, county partners, and youth-serving organizations gathered Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Buffalo Convention Center for the first SMART Youth Mental Health Summit. The event focused on improving mental health support for children and adolescents across Western New York.

The summit was presented through SMART (Supporting Mental Health by Advocating for Resources Together), a partnership of Erie 1 BOCES, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES (E2CCB), Erie County, the NYS Office of Mental Health, Live Well Erie, and more than a dozen additional community partners. E2CCB worked together with all the partners in planning, coordination, program development, and district outreach to support strong regional participation.

E2CCB was also represented by members of the Community Care Specialist team, who shared mental health resources, referral options, and school-based supports available to districts.

"It's clear our schools and communities are seeing levels of need unlike anything we've seen before. It is a burden no one should have to carry alone," said Melissa Rivers, Director of Instructional Support Services at E2CCB. "This summit is a vital step because we coalesced around practical solutions and built the sustained collaboration necessary to act on them. We all share one essential goal: every child in Western New York deserves access to meaningful mental health support. I am hopeful about the momentum we built today and our ability to bring that vision closer to reality.”

The summit featured a keynote by national mental health educator Ross Szabo and included 19 breakout sessions across four learning tracks. These tracks focused on supporting families, embedding best practices, reducing barriers to care, and using mental health as a school safety strategy.

The event also introduced the Mental Health Impact Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to mental health in the region. The award recipients were Mental Health Advocates of Western New York (MHAWNY) Ann Nowak, Dr. Annahita Ball, Mike Cornell, Marie Sly, and Kayla DeLeon.

Rivers noted that E2CCB’s work continues beyond the summit. “Districts rely on us for training, resources, and guidance as they respond to rising mental health needs. E2CCB is committed to leading this work, strengthening partnerships, and helping schools support the whole child.”

Historical Christmas Display

The Evans Historical Society recently created an exhibit entitled "Santa Claus is coming to Town". Featured in the display is an old wooden train and wooden houses. The long train carried old toys.

The houses and train was built by Albert Pfeiffer, a local carpenter. Originally displayed on his Orchard Avenue porch during the 1930-1940 era, these artifacts delighted people of all ages.

A visit to the Highland Hobby Shop close to a few years ago resulted in a photo find of sorts. Fred Carstens had a photocopy of a photo taken from a 1964 Lake Shore Yearbook, but unfortunately, one of the teammates were missing from his copy. We kept this one on our “to share in the future” list. Then, we were able to spend some extra study time at the Evans Historical Society Museum. There are so many interesting displays, photo books, scrap books and high school yearbooks (yay)! Lucky for us, the one we needed was on the bookcase, so we were able to find the photo in its entirety.

According to the 1964 yearbook “Mike Collopy broke the school and division II record in the quarter mile with a time of 52.3. A new record for the 880 relay of 1:35.9, by the team of Smallets, Carstens, Malinowski, and Senn was also set during this meet. In the Section VI AA track meet at Orchard Park, Lake Shore, with a great team effort, emerged victorious. Dennis Senn took a first place in 220-yard dash while Ted Malinowski took a second in the 100. Bill Lantzy and Mike Collopy culminated their senior year by taking second place in the 880 and 440 yard runs respectively. The 880-yard relay team composed of Smallets, Senn, Carstens, and Malinowski also placed seconds. John Groh placed third in both the high jump and the high hurdles.”
