What motivates you to apply for the position?
Dear IFMSA,
A medical degree starts with a unique stage, where we become medical students During this stage of discovery, we meet our colleagues; walk our hospitals’ halls; have our long studying sessions; and face daily testing of our knowledge
During medical school, some of us have the opportunity to be connected to a powerful network of medical students, connected around the world that has been transforming global health for more than seventy years In my case, through my local committee, operating in a small office that is also used for small classes In that room, brilliant people was challenging the status quo and involving youth in decisions, they also were shaping and inspiring my journey
Medical School stopped being the place where I was only learning about the mechanism of action of an specific treatment; but also the place where I discovered Quality Assurance in Medical Education; History of Human Rights; Comprehensive Sexual Education; Clowning Skills; Climate Change in Health; and not precisely in my University classes, but by youth leadership thinking out of the box. Youth that were not satisfied with the experience of learning, and were exploring new knowledge and sharing it.
My vision then was transformed to organizational development, strategic planning and youth engagement after my first IFMSA workshop, back in 2019 Since 2019, I have served to the Federation and medical students through different positions: Local Internal Development Assistant; National Vice-President for Members; IFMSA Membership Development Assistants and had the opportunity to serve twice in the Team of Officials, as Regional Director for the Americas and Vice-President for Members.
The path faced some challenges too; I realized that flying to IFMSA opportunities can be expensive, or the language used can be hard to understand sometimes I also figured that even in the safe space that we have created, there are gaps that are appearing and not being tackled This also motivated me to fight to create bridges between these gaps and connect again the IFMSA to its strength, and embrace our diversity across generations, regions, countries, officials and members
My name is Angelo Estefano Moreno Ramos, a 23 years old medical student, living in the cold mountains of Ecuador; and I would like to be your IFMSA President for the term 2024-2025; and keep advocating and working for our vision
