Hot Dippity Dog Swim Enjoy a dog day of summer by taking a dip with your dog at Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center. Please remember all dogs need to be on a leash. You may take off the leash in the water, but you must stay close to your dog. When leaving the event, be sure to pick up your PupCup custard from Culver’s!

Please do not bring young children to swim during this event.

They can participate, but we encourage everyone not to swim underwater after dogs have gotten in the pool.

Outdoor Days

Numerous door prizes will be awarded with everyone attending the event included in the drawings.

A variety of activities focused on outdoors will be offered during Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Days at the Capitol on Saturday, June 4 at the Missouri Capitol. This day-long event, in partnership with Missouri State Parks, a division of the MO Department of Natural Resources, MO Department of Conservation and Wonders of Wildlife, is being hosted to show different ways to enjoy nature. Youth Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt Jefferson City Jaycees and Parks and Recreation ­Department are co-­ sponsoring the 29th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Memorial Park. This special event will be open to children ages 2 to 7 years. Children will be divided into age groups and the park will be d ­ ivided into three sections.

Children ages 2-3 will begin their hunt at 11:00 am; ages 4-5 at 11:10 am and ages 6-7 at 11:20 am. Parents will not be allowed in the hunting area except for the 2-3 year old area. All proceeds go to benefit other community projects in Jefferson City.

Jefferson City Great Escape Triathlon The triathlon portion will consist of a 400 Meter Swim; bike on public roads 12-14 miles; run 3 miles using the Greenway and public roads. Duathletes will complete the bike and run portions. Relay teams consisting of 2 or 3 member teams will complete the swim, bike and run portions of the triathlon. Sponsored by Jefferson City Outdoors, Jefferson City Parks & Recreation and the Jefferson City Area YMCA. Kicks in the Sticks Join us for an evening fundraiser trail race through the woods at Binder Park in Jefferson City, MO. We’ll have three distances available of approximately 1.2, 3.5 and 7.5 miles followed by unique awards, great food, cold refreshments, and live music. Park Improvements Scheduled Park Improvements

• Plans are complete and work is underway to rehabilitate Ellis-Porter Riverside swimming pool. Once complete, the pool will offer a zero depth/ramp entry with spray features for the younger kids. Patrons will also enjoy the new drop slide and ¾ meter diving board.

Other improvements include replacing aging infrastructure plumbing and adding a new gutter system to the perimeter of the pool.

• The McClung Park playground is scheduled to be replaced in the summer of 2016.

• Plans are underway to transform two lower tennis courts adjacent to the Washington Park skate park into instructional/youth tennis and outdoor pickleball courts. Work is scheduled to begin spring 2016.

• Green Berry Acres Park: The newest 4.5 acre park is located at 1915 Green Berry Road. The park amenities include a rentable outdoor shelter, rentable indoor cabin, nature trails, open space and a newly renovated restroom. During the summer months, the park will be home to a variety of day camp opportunities. Drop in park use is welcomed from 5 am to 9 pm daily.

Greenway Trail Expansion Design is complete to build Phase II of the Frog Hollow Greenway Trail extension. Phase II will extend northwest from the existing trail across the creek via a low water crossing, to just west of the Hwy 179 overpass. Construction work is scheduled for the spring/ summer of 2016.

Rates apply to all individuals, businesses, and organizations.

Reservations are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis up to one year in advance. Inquiries may be made by telephone, but ­reservations must be made in person, unless using a debit or credit card. All reservations made more than 60 days in advance require a $10.00 non-refundable holding fee which is applied to the rental, with the balance due 60 days prior to the rental date. If the balance is not paid within this time, the reservation will be canceled and the facility will be made available to others. Reservations made within 60 days require payment in full at time of booking the reservation.

If a cancellation occurs 10 or more business days prior to the scheduled reservation, the facility/hayride rental fee and deposit is ­refundable, less $10.00. If a cancellation occurs less than 10 business days prior to the reservation, ½ of the rental fee and the entire damage deposit will be refunded. If the cancellation is made by the Department of Parks and Recreation, a full refund will be issued.

All facilities require a $50 damage, clean-up, and/or key deposit in addition to rental charges payable by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, Discover or bank debit card. Provided the key is returned (if applicable), the facility is cleaned properly and there is no damage, the deposit, if paid by cash or check will be returned by mail approximately two to three weeks after the date of usage. If paid by credit/ debit card the refund will be credited back to the card the Monday after your rental.

Sale of items, usage after 11 p.m., charging admission, and playing amplified music require the completion of a Special Use Permit ­Application and advance approval from the Department of Parks and Recreation prior to a reservation being made, but not less than 10 business days in advance of the planned reservation.

Alcoholic beverages are permitted in the parks except where specifically prohibited and posted.

Binder Lake Boat Ramp The Binder Lake boat ramp sports a “rougher” texture that eliminates slipping on the moss during the summer. The ramp is at a greater pitch which makes loading and unloading much easier.

Missouri River Access The river has always been right in our back yard. Now it is easily accessible! The Carl R. Noren Missouri River Access, located in North Jefferson Recreation Area, is open from 5 am to 11 pm.

Hough Park Lake Boating (hand-launched) and bank fishing are permitted at Hough Park Lake. Access to the golf course irrigation lake is at the end of Iven Road. For personal safety, fishing and boating are not allowed near hole #3 on the north end of lake.

Mountain Biking If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, check out the 15 miles of trail throughout Binder Park and the three miles of trail at the Frog Hollow Nature Trail (access near the West Edgewood Drive parking lot). These trails offer fun for all ages and ability levels and are designed for non-motorized vehicles - ATV’s and motorcycles are prohibited. All mountain bike trails are designed and maintained by a trained local volunteer club. Email orta@mchsi.com for more mountain bike trail information or volunteer opportunities.

Park Hours Community parks are open all year, 5 am - 11 pm. Neighborhood Parks are also open all year from 5 am to sunset. Green Berry Acres is open 5 am - 9 pm. Restroom facilities within the parks are available for use from April through October. Restrooms at Edgewood Greenway, Memorial, Ellis-Porter and McKay Parks are open year round, weather permitting.

Jefferson City Parks and Recreation and the Jefferson City Evening Lions sponsor a non-competitive baseball league for Jefferson City area school-aged kids with physical and developmental disabilities or other conditions that keep them from participating in other baseball leagues. Every kid bats and fields in each inning. Every child has a “baseball buddy” to help him or her. The league is designed to help every kid, regardless of age or ability, be successful and have fun! The league is currently forming and games will be played for six weeks on Fridays in May – June. Games are played at 6:30 p.m.

The registration fee is $25, which includes a six-game season and a uniform shirt and hat.

Volunteers Needed: The success of the program is dependent upon a large number of volunteers to help out. Baseball buddies can be individuals or whole groups in the Jefferson City area.

Volunteering consists of helping a child during the game; catching, throwing, batting, and running.

You can volunteer for one or all of the games, depending upon your availability.

Friday Night Recreation Friday Night Recreation is a year round recreation program for Cole and adjacent County residents with mental and/or physical handicaps who are 15 years old or older. Family members and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend any of the activities.

Friday Night Recreation is co-sponsored by the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation and Cole County Residential Services.

The program includes social, physical and creative activities and tries to fill the leisure needs of the participants. Dances, game nights, dinners, hayrides, bingo, movies, and nature activities are some of the events offered.

Everyone wanting to participate must pre-register before attending any of the activities. Preregistration consists of filling out the registration/application form and returning it to the Parks and Recreation office along with the registration fee. This form includes a parent/guardian release, a brief medical history, and emergency contact information.

Schedules and applications may be picked up at the Department of Parks & Recreation and Cole County Residential Services. Special Olympics Jefferson City Special Olympics is a year round sports training program for Jefferson City residents sixteen years of age and older, having disabilities because of cognitive delays. Participation in Special Olympics allows people with disabilities to develop physical fitness, gain self-confidence, build a more positive self-image and to form friendships with other Special Olympians.

If you or someone you know is interested in participating in one, several, or all of the sporting events, contact the Department of Parks and Recreation. Adult Lessons

CCSA offers an introductory 3 session series to acquaint individuals with the basics of small sailboat handling. Enrollment is limited to individuals that are skilled in swimming and 15 years old or older.

Spring Hayride Program Enjoy spring’s beauty and the park wildlife with a tractor-drawn hayride through beautiful Binder Park. Hayrides are available through May 22. Hayrides are perfect for families, a group of friends, office parties, or youth groups.

Reservations are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis in person, or by phone if using a credit card. Inquiries may be made by phone, but hayride reservations must be accompanied by payment in full for both the hayride fee and the deposit fee (applies to day and evening hayrides).

Daytime Hayrides

Cost is $25 per hour. Two wagons are available. For younger age groups, up to age 6, wagons can accommodate 25 to 35 children. For older ages, 7 and up, wagons can accommodate 20. All day -time hayrides must finish before 5 p.m. Daytime hayrides are available Monday - Friday.

Evening Hayrides

Hayrides, 2 1/2 hours in length, are available Monday - Thursday at 5:30 or 7:00 pm; Friday - Sunday 5:00, 6:30 or 8:00 pm, with a 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm time available on Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $50 per wagon with a maximum of 20 people per wagon. In addition, a refundable deposit fee of $15 per wagon.

Table Tennis will have drop-in play on Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Participants must be 8 years or older.

Judo Beginning Judo for All Ages

Judo is the ancient martial art of unarmed self defense and emphasizes throwing, grappling, and submission techniques (striking techniques are not used). A judo gi can be purchased at a martial arts supply store or through the class instructor.

Minimum age is 7 years old. Beginning class runs from 6 - 7 pm.

Adult/Women’s Judo

A second class, from 7-8 pm, is specifically designed for adults, especially women, who seek to understand judo for self defense or to get in shape. Participants will learn basics of tournament judo.

Baton & Stick Self Defense Baton and Stick Self Defense is based on the Filipino/ Indonesian martial arts. Known as SinaTirsiaWali Kali, techniques are the same whether you are holding a stick or are empty handed. Block and strikes are one and the same. Camp Out ‘N About

Camp Out N About is for boys and girls entering grades 1-6 in the fall. Camp meets from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday - Friday at Ellis-Porter Riverside Park. Campers will have the ­opportunity to play a variety of recreational games and sports (this is NOT a skills camp). Each week, the camp will take a field trip “out and about” in the community.

Camp registration includes one t-shirt per summer, after camp swim daily at Ellis-Porter Riverside Pool (3-5 pm), special Friday activities, and field trips.

Campers may attend a maximum of four, one-week sessions. ­Sessions are limited to the first 20 children per age group. Depending upon camp enrollment, campers may be able to attend more weeks with the approval of camp director, Rachel Bruemmer, and staff.

Camp Green Berry*

Camp GREEN Berry is a unique nature education program that meets at the new Green Berry Acres. In addition to fun games and activities, youth attending will be able to learn about the natural environment and our place within that. Conservation and nature ethics will be taught as well as natural crafts and nature activities.

Camp hours are 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. A camp t-shirt is included in the registration fee. Camp GREEEN Berry is offered for seven, one-week sessions. Campers may attend a maximum of two, one-week sessions. Sessions are limited to the first 30 children.

Please register by the Monday prior to the week of camp.

*After Camp Swim

Campers enrolled in Binder Adventure Camp, Camp Eagle, Camp GREEN Berry or Camp Wokka Wokka are eligible to participate in the after camp swim program. Camp Wokka Wokka*

Camp Wokka-Wokka is for boys and girls entering grades 1-3 this fall. Camp meets from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Memorial Park. Activities include arts and crafts, games and physical activities, cookouts, hikes, nature study, field trips, and much more.

The registration fee includes a camp t-shirt, field trips, arts and crafts supplies. Campers may attend a maximum of two, one-week sessions. Sessions are limited to the first 32 children.

Please register by the Monday prior to the week of camp.

Binder Adventure Camp*

Binder Adventure Camp is a challenging outdoor recreation experience for youth entering grades 4-5 in the fall. Campers will not only enjoy the outdoors but will learn outdoor skills which they can use for life. Some of the activities will include canoeing, fishing, archery, hayrides, outdoor camping/cooking, confidence course, hiking, nature study, and more.

Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Transportation to and from camp and a camp t-shirt are included in the registration fee.

Campers may attend a maximum of two, one-week sessions. Sessions are limited to the first 30 children. Please register by the Monday prior to the week of camp. Bus schedules are available at the Parks & Recreation office.

Camp Eagle* Camp Eagle is a more advanced outdoor recreation program for youth entering grades 6-7 in the fall. Camp will meet at Binder Park but at a separate location from Binder Adventure Camp.

Campers will not only enjoy the outdoors as those in Binder Camp but will learn a higher level of outdoor skills appropriate to those older ages. Some of the additional activities will include high ropes course, zip line, giant’s swing and more!

Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Transportation to and from camp and a camp t-shirt are included in the registration fee.

Binder Adventure Camp is offered for seven, one-week sessions.

Campers may attend a maximum of two, one-week sessions. Sessions are limited to the first 30 children. Please register by the Monday prior to the week of camp. Bus schedules are available at the Parks & Recreation office.

Counselor in Training Jefferson City Parks & Recreation Day Camp program is offering a Camp Counselor In Training program for youth going into grade 7 through high school. The program is designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare teens to become staff members at camp, as well as productive members of their community.

The CIT program includes training in all aspects of a counselor’s job at camp, participation in service projects, training sessions on such topics as basic child development and behavior management, counseling techniques and best practices, communication and leadership, environmental stewardship, and community service.

Participants are required to attend one, 2-week CIT session to complete the program, but may be able to attend as many as three, 2 week sessions.

CIT’s must be entering the 7th grade for volunteering at Camp Wokka Wokka and the grade 1 - 3 group at Camp Out N About.

Applicants must be entering 9th grade for Binder Adventure Camp, Camp Eagle and the grade 4 - 6 group at Camp Out N About. Applicants must register, pay the fee and complete the CIT application before being considered for the program. Entry into the program is competitive and is based upon the completed application, references and an interview with the camp director. Anyone not selected for the program will have their fee refunded.

Adventures in Science

Adventures in Science is a unique project-based learning experience that will stimulate your child’s natural curiosity. Our activities use the scientific method to promote wonder, discovery and exploration and also encourage problem-solving and critical thinking skills to engage and challenge children to create their own hypothesizes.

Our program is designed for children who have completed 1st through 5th grades who have a genuine interest in science. Precamp drop off begins at 7:45 am, camp activities run from 8:30 am4:00 pm, and post-camp activities are available until 5:00 pm. Your child will need a sack lunch and snack. Kool-Aid will be provided at snack. Join us for any or all six week camps! Keep in mind, science is explosive-please make sure your child dresses to get messy! This camp is held at McClung Park Indoor Pavilion.

Showdown Freshman is an introductory, two week adventure into theater for either: youth 11 and have been not participated previously in Showdown Academy; or youth 10 years of age that have participated in Showdown Junior previously. The program begins with morning classes where students choose three of the following: acting, directing, composing, stage movement, musical theater, dance, stage craft and playwriting. Afternoons are devoted to rehearsals for the full production. Campers should bring lunch.

Children will learn acting, movement and music and will perform in the original stage production. Visual Art Academy

For youth ages 7 to 14, the Visual Art Academy classes consist of hands on painting, drawing, cartooning, clay and many other mediums taught by local professional artists and art teachers.

There will be an approximate 12 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

Students will break into groups and work with different mediums and instructors throughout the day. The classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the air-conditioned McClung Park Pavilion. Supervision will be available at 8 am and after class until 4 pm sharp.

Cheer Camp For youths entering grades 1-7 in fall 2016, this camp is full of tumbling, cheer, dance, and crafts. Cheerleaders will receive a camp t-shirt and 4x6 Team photo. Golf Course Improvements Work is complete and new hole #9 is scheduled to open late spring/early summer 2016. The new par 3 includes a larger green complex protected by two sand bunkers, expanded back tees, a new forward tee, new cart path and increased the size of the retention pond. Come out and enjoy the latest improvement at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

Unsupervised Youth Play In order to be approved for unsupervised play, golfers sixteen years of age and younger must successfully complete the following: pass a written multiple choice test related to golf rules, etiquette and safety or complete the Oak Hills Jr. Golf Camp.

Young golfers ages nine through sixteen who do not meet these requirements and all youth golfers ages eight and younger will be permitted to play only under the supervision of someone seventeen years of age or older. Violations of rules, poor etiquette, bad sportsmanship, abuse of facilities, horseplay and/or other complaints received from golfers will be grounds for suspension and/or revocation of the privileges granted under this policy.

Dress Code Policy Shoes: Tennis/golf shoes required. No boots of any kind allowed.

Pants/Shorts: No cut-off, biking or running shorts allowed.

Shirts: • Collared shirts with or without sleeves, hemmed.

• Crew neck t-shirts with or without sleeves, hemmed.

• Ladies tank top/sweaters with a minimum of 1 1/2” strap.

• No spaghetti straps, tube tops or swim suits allowed.

• All shirts must fall between the waist and knee.

• Shirts longer than the shorts must be tucked in.

Anything determined to be offensive by clubhouse staff will not be allowed to be worn.

Golf Etiquette When good etiquette is practiced, golf is a much better and more enjoyable game. Benefits of practicing good golf etiquette include faster rounds, greater enjoyment, improved course conditions and better interaction between golfers.

Junior Golf Camp Junior Golf Camp is an introductory program for beginning golfers (boys and girls) 8-14 years of age. Camp will be held Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hills Golf Center. Instruction will include basic swing fundamentals (grip, aim & setup) putting, chipping, and bunker play. During the golf camp, participants will play golf everyday and be given a 30 minute presentation dealing with the rules of golf and proper etiquette. Competitive Golf Clinic The Competitive Golf Clinic is intended for junior golfers between the ages of 12 and 15 interested in taking their game to the next level. Thursday Night Open League

Oak Hills will have an open women’s league on Wednesday mornings May 4 through August 24. There will be a free 15 minute lesson for all interested participants starting at 9:00 am, just prior to the 9:15 am tee off. To participate in the league you can call the clubhouse at (573)634-6532 to register or show up Wednesday morning by 8:30 am. Formats and pairings will change weekly. Thursday Night Open League will be offered May 5 through August 25. There will be a shotgun start at 5:30 pm so please show up 15 to 30 minutes early to register. It will be a two person scramble.

Weekly registration is available the Wednesday prior to each league night. We will use both sides of the golf course depending on how many teams sign up. Last year Thursday Night League was a huge success and we had on average 100 players every week. We will be full at 50 teams. Call the clubhouse at (573)634-6532 to register.

Beginning Adult Golf Lessons

This class is intended to assist skaters in preparation to tryout for the Capital Classics competitive skating teams.

We will cover a variety of edges, turns and Moves in the Field patterns. We encourage all skaters to attend the Synchro Sampler in March as well.

Off-Ice Conditioning Class

Ice Dancing Class

Off-ice conditioning class helps skaters improve overall fitness level. Class includes cardiovascular exercises, promoting muscular strength and endurance. Emphasis is placed on core body strength and agility, which is utilized most in figure skating elements. Class will also focus on jumping and spinning techniques. ISI Gamma level and above are eligible to participate.

Class meets in the ice arena multipurpose room on Thursdays.

Ice Dancing is a discipline of ice skating that focuses on musicality.

Proper posture, correct timing, clean footwork and individual expression will be fine-tuned during these classes. Skaters in the ISI Gamma level and above are eligible to enroll. Pools are open daily except during threatening weather (thunder/lightning) or when projected high air temperature is 74 degrees or cooler.

Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times for your safety.

During periods of low attendance, various attractions and/or pools within the complex may close.

During periods of extreme heat or high temperatures, staff will take 10 minute safety breaks throughout day to clear pool.

Parks and Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Coin operated lockers are available at each facility.

Complimentary lifejackets are available at the admission booth.

Profane language is not allowed. Patrons using inappropriate language will be asked to exit the facility for the day without a refund.

All patrons must pay to enter the pool whether swimming or just observing.

Patrons wearing street clothes will not be allowed admission into facility unless you’re a parent/guardian of a child 8 years or younger.

Appropriate swim attire must be worn, including male swim trunks, female one or two piece suits and tankinis. Suits should not be see through. No thongs, pants, jean shorts or shorts with belt loops or rivets and anything else deemed not appropriate by pool staff.

Children 8 years and under MUST be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older.

Outside food, drink, coolers or glass containers are not allowed into the pools. Both pools have concession stands to meet your needs.

Parks and Recreation reserves the right to check baggage if deemed necessary.

Pool patrons are not allowed to leave and reenter the pools. Exceptions will be made for adults with manager’s approval.

Persons must be able to swim on their own to use any waterslide.

Paging of patrons is NOT permitted. It is the responsibility of pool patrons to make communicative arrangements prior to entering.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the pool complex or parking lot.

Any person suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted into the facility.

Water wings/small inner tubes are permitted if parent/guardian is within reach of the child. Rafts/large inner tubes are not permitted Noodles are allowed into the facility.

Close fitting swim diapers are required for those not potty trained. Swim diapers are available at the admission gate for a nominal fee.

If you, your child, or anyone in your family has had diarrhea in the past two weeks, please do not use the pool.

A Word To Parents

Diaper Policy

Inclement Weather

Our lifeguards are highly trained and skilled.

Their job is to assist in making our facilities a safe and enjoyable place to bring the family. However, they are not babysitters.

Parents are expected to watch their children and to assist in enforcing the policies for the safety and enjoyment of all patrons.

All children 8 YEARS OF AGE AND YOUNGER must be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older.

Our business is keeping your kids safe!

In an effort to keep our pool free of fecal matter, toddlers are required to wear swim diapers or plastic pants. Swim diapers are the safest barrier between your toddler and the water. These guidelines have been adopted for the health and safety of all who swim at our facilities. If your child has been sick with diarrhea please keep them at home until they are well. You may purchase swim diapers at either pool for a nominal fee or bring your own.

When inclement weather occurs, aquatic staff will remain at the pools and attempt to re-open the pools as soon as possible.

If patrons remain at the pool, and we are unable to re-open after 45 minutes, a pass will be issued for one free future admission with proof of receipt. This policy is in effect until one hour prior to official closing.

QUALITY, CONVENIENCE, AND FUN!

Through a cooperative agreement with the American Red Cross, morning and evening group lessons are offered for all ability levels, making it as convenient as possible for families with children of all ages. All instructors are American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors or Water Safety Instructor Aids. Eight lessons are scheduled during a two or four week period.

Parent Day for all classes is typically held the fourth day of lessons. Parents may participate in lessons on this day.

AGES 2 - 3

This program is intended to help children develop a comfort level in and around the water. It will provide the parent with the necessary knowledge and skills to orient the child to the water and safely supervise water activities. One parent or responsible adult must accompany the child in the water.

Water Depth: 4.5 feet Class Length: 30 minutes

Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills. This class is for kids who are afraid of water or getting their face wet. Parent assistance is encouraged.

Water Depth: zero-depth area Class Length: 30 minutes

PRE-SCHOOL AGES 3 - 5

Children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around the water. Will put face under water and become comfortable in 2 feet of water.

Water Depth: 2 feet Class Length: 30 minutes

LEARN - TO - SWIM AGES 5 AND UP

Some levels may be combined due to low enrollment.

Students successfully completing the required skills will receive Red Cross certification. Repetition can be the key to learning. Students often repeat a level several times before mastering the skills required for advancement. It is important for you and your child to understand that repeating a level does not constitute failure. Mastering skills takes time, practice and patience.

StarGuard Lifeguard Training Programs

StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program (new lifeguards)

Minimum Age: 16 years old (15 if employed by Parks and Recreation) by course date.

The Jefferson City Parks & Recreation Department’s aquatic staff is trained by the StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program.

Successful completion of this class provides the necessary license to work for the Jefferson City Parks & Recreation Aquatic Facilities.

Individuals will learn how to anticipate, recognize, and manage accidents/incidents in a professional manner, while protecting themselves. Training includes performing rescues and giving emergency care. In this course you will learn First Aid, CPR, oxygen administration, and how to work an AED. Online tests are located in the Lifeguard text book. Test must be completed by the first day of class.

Pre-requisites: 1. Tread water for one minute using legs only.

2. Swim 200 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststroke.

3. Retrieve a 10 pound object from water depth of 11 feet and return to the surface.

4. Must be able to access the internet.

This class requires an on-line course. Test needs to be completed prior to first day of class. Test takes several hours to complete. If above work is not completed you will not be allowed to take the course.

Junior Lifeguard Training

This program is designed to be a community based water safety program for youth ages 11-15. It uniquely combines certification opportunities, work experience, skill development, competition, teamwork and leadership skills.

Daily sessions will consist of physical training, lecture/demonstrations, team building activities and leadership training. Students will receive instruction in water safety, public relations, facility operations, basic work skills, completing our employee application, lifeguarding skills, first aid and CPR. Students will receive a certification from StarGuard Lifeguard Training Program, a t-shirt and a graduation ceremony to demonstrate their new skills. Graduates will have the opportunity to continue their training through the aquatic volunteer program. Youth working for the training program will receive free admission to the pool only on days they are scheduled to work. A graduation ceremony will be held for all junior lifeguards on June 12 at Ellis-Porter Riverside Pool beginning at 7 p.m.

Water and Sun Safety Classes The Jefferson City Parks & Recreation Department encourages everyone to be safe in and around the water and to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the harmful effects of the sun during the summer months. The aquatic staff is available to talk to area youth by visiting them at school or by setting up a field trip to Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center. This is a FREE program.

Little Splashers Playtime Come and enjoy the play structure area at Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center during a time specifically reserved for the little ones and an adult playmate. Admission fee of $1.50 is required of everyone that enters the pool. This is geared for youth six and under with an adult guardian (15 years or older).

You can register for activities on-line at jeffersoncitymo.gov/parks. You may create an account online if you are a new customer. If you are an established customer but don’t know your login information, your user name and password can be emailed to you if you have an email address on file.

The Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation and/or the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission does not provide insurance coverage for injuries suffered while participating in programs or using facilities.

Any costs related to such injuries should be presented to your personal medical insurance carrier.

Late Fee Policy

Many parks and recreation programs have enrollment limits and registration deadlines. To ensure a spot in your favorite activity, please be sure to register before the registration deadline. Registering early will allow for proper staffing levels, adequate equipment and program supplies for all participants, as well as saving you money. If space is still available in a program after the registration deadline, the program fees will be higher.

Refund Policy

The Parks and Recreation Commission has adopted the following refund policy regarding programs and facilities: Programs 1. If a cancellation is made prior to the registration deadline, a refund will be given, less a $5 processing fee.

2. If a cancellation is made after the registration deadline , a refund will be given for 1/2 of the fee paid. No refund will be given if a cancellation is made after 9:00 a.m. two business days prior to program start date.

3. Fees paid for team registrations are not refundable once a team registration has been accepted and recorded.

4. Full refunds are made if a program is canceled by Parks and Recreation.

Facilities/Hayrides 1. Fees paid for admission to park facilities are not refundable.

2. The $10 facility holding fee required to reserve park facilities/shelters is not refundable under any circumstance except as in #5 below.

3. If a cancellation occurs ten or more business days prior to the scheduled reservation, the facility/hayride rental fee and deposit is refundable, less a $10 processing fee.

4. If a cancellation occurs less than ten business days prior to the reservation, 1/2 of the rental fee and the entire damage deposit will be refunded.

5. Full refunds are made if a rental is canceled by Parks and Recreation.

6. Refunds due to weather will only be given if the park itself is closed.

Amusement Park Tickets 1. Amusement park tickets purchased through the Department of Parks and Recreation are refunded through Friday, September 30, 2016.

The Parks and Recreation Commission believes that no youth should be denied access to Parks and Recreation programs for financial reasons.

The Parks and Recreation Foundation makes recreation sponsorships available to those who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate in organized recreation activities. Those seeking sponsorships will be asked to complete a Recreation Sponsorship Application Form available through the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Sponsorships are generally limited to those receiving benefits from a form of public assistance as designated on the application form.

Sponsorship funding is limited to $200 per individual per calendar year and is restricted to ongoing programs conducted

by Parks and Recreation staff. Specialized programs of short duration conducted by non-staff members (e.g. baseball clinics) are ineligible for sponsorship funding.

All application forms requesting funding for youth programs must be signed by the parent/guardian of the prospective participant. Participants/parents must pay a minimum of 20% of the registration fee for programs for which sponsorship assistance is requested.

Bleeding Policy

In any Parks and Recreation program, a participant who is bleeding or who has blood on his/her clothing shall be prohibited from participating further in the activity until appropriate treatment has been administered.

Appropriate treatment may include bandaging as necessary to prevent recurrence.

This policy has been implemented to protect the participants, coaches, staff, and their families from diseases transported through the accidental contact of tainted blood. If medical care is needed, the participant must leave the activity until the problem situation has been resolved.

A 70% isopropyl alcohol solution must be used to disinfect the skin and clothing. All infected areas must be thoroughly cleaned before this individual is allowed to continue participating in the activity. This may require that the player remove affected clothing and replace it in order to be able to continue participating.

All participants should bring an extra shirt, pair of pants/shorts, and socks to each activity to change into in the event a blood incident should occur.

The views of any program or activity advertised within this guide and sponsored by any organization other than the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department do not necessarily reflect the views of the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department.

Most Parks and Recreation crews and/ or vehicles are equipped with cell phones which can serve as an emergency reporting station for people needing help.

Our personnel can notify local emergency services of any requests for assistance.

Photo Policy

Termination of Participation Any of the following infractions will subject the individual or individuals to suspension from attendance at Parks and Recreation programs or facilities for a period to be determined by the Director of Parks and Recreation and prosecution for violation of the City of Jefferson trespassing ordinance: Any park user, program participant, or spectator, who verbally or physically threatens or who attempts to intimidate or harass a Parks and Recreation employee or another park patron or causes such employee or other park patron to be apprehensive about his/her personal safety;

Any park user, program participant, or spectator, who uses vulgar or inappropriate language in addressing a Parks and Recreation employee or another park patron at a Parks and Recreation program or facility;

Any park user, program participant or spectator, who fails to heed the request of an on-site Parks and Recreation supervisor to vacate park property; Any park user, program participant, or spectator, who violates any Parks and Recreation Commission rule, regulation, policy, code, expectation and/or guidelines for conduct.

Frequently, Parks and Recreation staff may videotape or photograph participants enrolled in programs, classes, events, or enjoying park facilities. These photographs are for Parks and Recreation publications, flyers, brochures, program guides, TV programs, or advertisements. All photos and videos are for Parks and Recreation use and become the sole property of the Department.

Decisions regarding morning programs will be made by 8 a.m. and announced as quickly as possible thereafter.

Decisions on the cancellation of evening activities due to inclement weather will be made by 3:30 p.m. daily, when possible.

The Activities Hotline (634-6485) will be updated as frequently as necessary when weather is a consideration. Please listen for extension listing.

Mission Statement
