Stanno venendo installate attrezzature potenzialmente salvavita su alcuni autobus su 53 rotte di NSW TrainLink al fine di garantire viaggi più sicuri durante spostamenti lunghi in aree rurali e remote.

La ministra per i trasporti regionali e le strade, Jenny Aitchison, ha dichiarato che sta per essere avviata una sperimentazione che porterà all'installazione di defibrillatori esterni automatici (AED) su tutti gli autobus di NSW TrainLink che operano su rotte programmabili di durata superiore a quattro ore.

"I defibrillatori salvano vite. È così semplice, ed è per questo che questa iniziativa è così importante nei servizi di autobus di NSW TrainLink", ha detto la signora Aitchison.

Il direttore generale di NSW TrainLink, Peter Allaway, ha dichiarato che l'installazione dei defibrillatori sugli autobus è nata da un'idea promossa internamente dal personale appassionato.

"Questo test mira specificamente alle rotte più lunghe in cui potrebbero esserci zone senza copertura telefonica o in cui i tempi di risposta d'emergenza potrebbero essere più lunghi - ha detto il signor Allaway. - Questo beneficerà i clienti degli autobus, gli autisti e le comunità rurali e remote nel complesso, offrendo un trasporto pubblico ancora più sicuro."

Elliot Williams di St John Ambulance NSW ha affermato che solo una piccola percentuale di persone sopravvive a un arresto cardiaco extramospedaliero senza che venga eseguita la RCP o venga utilizzato un defibrillatore.

"Ogni anno, in Australia, 30.000 persone subiscono un arresto cardiaco improvviso. Attualmente, solo 1 su 10 sopravvive", ha detto il signor Williams.
