ALLEN ISD SECONDARY TEACHERS PARTICIPATE IN EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES WRITTEN BY CATHERINE GREGORY, STRATEGIC INITIATIVES COORDINATOR
Allen ISD recently partnered with Workforce Solutions of North Central Texas to provide 23 teachers and counselors the opportunity to work with local businesses and organizations for a summer externship. With the help of Allen Economic Development Corporation, the educators were matched with local industry partners based on areas of instruction and personal interest. Educators spent a total of 24 hours shadowing these business professionals, and they then used their
experience to write a high-quality lesson plan to take their learning into the classroom. “The experiences these teachers gained will have a chance to ignite the spark of curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of the connections between classroom learning and the real world,” said Superintendent Dr. Robin Bullock. “As a result, we will be better suited to develop students who will graduate Allen High School academically prepared for their future pursuits.”
