YEARBOOK 2024 - 2025
Here’s a simple guide to what the Council of Governors (the school council) is working on this year to make sure Alice Smith School remains the best possible place to study for you and all our students.
1. Helping You Learn and Grow
The council works with teachers and school leaders to make sure the classes, lessons, and support you get are the best they can be. They want every student to do well and feel happy at school.
2. Taking Care of the School’s Money
The council looks after the school’s budget to make sure there’s enough money for everything you need-like new books, cool technology, and fun activities-while also saving for the future.
3. Making Sure the School is Run Properly
They make sure the school follows all the rules and is fair and honest. This helps keep the school safe and a great place to learn.
4. Improving the School Buildings and Facilities
The council plans and manages upgrades to the school buildings and playgrounds so you have modern, safe, and comfortable places to learn and hang out.
5. Using Technology in Smart Ways
They help the school use the latest technology to make learning more fun and effective, like better computers, online resources, and digital tools.
6. Supporting Scholarships and Community Projects
The council helps raise money and support programmes that give scholarships to students and help the wider school community.
7. Choosing and Supporting School Leaders
They check in on the Head of School to make sure they’re doing a great job leading the school and making good decisions for everyone.
8. Keeping Everyone Safe
There are special council members who focus on making sure the school is safe, healthy, and protected from online threats.
9. Listening to Parents and Students
The council wants to hear from you and your parents! They encourage parents to get involved and share ideas to help make the school even better.
In short, the Council of Governors is like the school’s “big team” that plans for the future, makes important decisions, and helps create the best possible school experience for you and everyone else. If you ever want to know more or get involved, there are ways for parents and students to share their thoughts too!
With deep respect and heartfelt appreciation, in April 2025 we marked the close of a remarkable chapter in the history of the Alice Smith Schools Association (ASSA) as Marama Schnitker stepped down as both our trustee Governor representing the Malaysian Australian New Zealand Association (MANZA) and as Chair of the Council of Governors (CoG).
A Legacy of Leadership and Heart Since 2017, Marama has served as Chair of the Council, bringing strategic oversight with incredible integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the wellbeing of our students, staff, and families. Her tenure has been defined by resilience and vision, steering the school community through some of its most challenging times, including the unprecedented disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and extended school closures. Under her guidance, the Council has upheld the highest governance standards, always prioritising the school’s and its community’s long-term best interests.
Building for the Future Marama’s leadership has left an indelible mark on the Alice Smith School. She has overseen the strengthening of the school’s financial position, ensuring robust reserves and excellent enrolment. Her commitment to academic excellence and community wellbeing has been affirmed through the school’s successful COBIS accreditation and the launch of the Alice Smith School Foundation, which supports scholarships, bursaries, and community initiatives. The school’s strategic roadmap and comprehensive masterplan, developed under her stewardship, provide a clear path forward for continued growth and innovation.
Marama’s contributions have shaped a defining era for our school. Her dedication to the school’s influence on the broader community and to nurturing, inspiring, and enriching the lives of young people will continue to inspire all who follow in her footsteps.
As she steps away to enjoy her next chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude for her years of service and leadership. We wish her every success and hope she enjoys some well-deserved rest, knowing that the friendships and respect she has earned here will endure.
Thank you, Marama, for your extraordinary dedication. Your legacy will always be a part of the Alice Smith story.
2024–2025 has been a year of achievement. From the very first day, the energy and enthusiasm of our students has been evident in every corner of our campuses.
Student accomplishments have continued to be a highlight throughout the year. The “Jolly Rodgers” team made history by winning the inaugural Bufori-EViE Cup. Our graduating class, the #KLASSof2025, has earned outstanding university offers, a testament to their hard work and the support of our dedicated teachers and
Beyond academics, Alice Smith School has continued to foster a vibrant and global student community. The Eco Club’s sustainability projects and student-led initiatives like Jumeirah Luxe have empowered students to make a positive impact. The visit from Germany’s elite athletics team brought excitement and inspiration, and our Year 9 Sports Leaders organised a memorable Sports Festival that united students across year groups.
Wellbeing and belonging have remained a core element for our students. Thrive Week for our new Year 7s, Odd Socks Day, and our Home Languages Programme are just a few examples of how we celebrate individuality and support every community member.
We are grateful for our PTA’s invaluable support in organising key community events this year. Their dedication made Halloween celebrations, the Christmas Bazaar, and the International Food Fest memorable occasions that brought families and staff together in joyful celebration of our diverse school community.
Alongside the launch of our campus Masterplan, the KLASS Hub opening signals a bright future, ensuring Alice Smith School remains a leading institution with innovative, inspiring spaces for learning and growth.
This year, Alice Smith was recognised in the Spear’s Schools Index as one of the world’s top private schools, and we proudly received COBIS Beacon Status Awards for Ethos and Values, as well as Student Leadership. These honours reflect the dedication and passion that define our school.
As the community looks forward to new adventures and continued success, this year’s memories and milestones will remain a source of pride and inspiration for all.

The Alice Smith School Foundation is all about helping students and the community by raising money for scholarships, special projects, and improving the school. It started on 1st November 2018, the same day the school was founded back in 1946. Since then, it has been changing lives and supporting education in Malaysia.
This year, the Foundation hosted a special golf fundraiser. Golf enthusiasts and beginners came together to enjoy the simulator at the Wedge Range Petaling Jaya to play golf and raise money for scholarships and other vital projects. It was a fun and eventful way to support the school and help students have better opportunities.
We were thrilled to learn that all four outstanding teachers from Grace Education Center, whom the Foundation sponsored for their TEFL Level 3 course offered by The TEFL Academy, passed their exams. Additionally, we supported the 'Teachmeet' event held at the primary campus, which brought together teachers and volunteers from refugee schools and learning centers around Kuala Lumpur to share and learn from each other's experiences.
In 2026, Alice Smith School will celebrate its 80th birthday! The Foundation is busy planning exciting events to mark this huge milestone. These events will bring students, families, and alumni together to celebrate the school’s amazing history and help raise funds for the future.
If you want to learn more or get involved, check out the Foundation’s page on the school website. Together, we’re making a real difference!
The Foundation also offers the Tertiary Study Grant, which helps graduating students with part of their university tuition fees if they get accepted into a top 30 university worldwide. The Foundation grants worth up to RM50,000 per year, help students to support their studies at prestigious universities like Oxford, Cambridge, or Imperial College London. The grant is awarded based on academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in school and community life. It’s an amazing way the Foundation helps students chase their dreams and succeed at top universities around the world.
Thanks to the Foundation, students like Zhi Yan, Siddhart, Eugene, and many others have received scholarships that help them follow their dreams. The Foundation also supports local community groups and environmental projects to make the world a better place.
The PTA has had a truly fantastic year, bringing our school community together through a variety of engaging events and meaningful initiatives. From festive moments like Halloween and Christmas Bazaar to the energy and excitement of House Days and the colourful celebration of cultures at the International Food Fair, each event has added something special to the school year.
We also helped drive school spirit and support important causes through the Terry Fox Run and showed appreciation for our dedicated staff with a special Staff Appreciation Day.
Beyond these events, the PTA has generously supported several charitable organisations, further extending our positive impact beyond campus. It’s been a year of connection, celebration and care - thank you to our incredible parent volunteers for all that you do to enrich our school community!
This year, our campus has been alive with creativity, and exploration. Whether it was tackling a challenging problem, performing for an audience, trying something new, or taking meaningful action, our students have continually challenged themselves both intellectually and emotionally in all areas of their learning.
I have been truly inspired by our students’ willingness to explore new ideas and embrace diverse perspectives. They are learning what it means to be global citizens: to care for others, respect differences, and understand the powerful impact they can have on their communities and the world.
Our youngest learners in the Early Years have thrived by questioning, planning, creating, and refining their ideas through purposeful play. In the Junior Years, students have investigated real-world case studies, organised their thinking, built meaningful connections, and applied their understanding in new and thoughtful ways.
All of this is made possible by our dedicated teachers and teaching assistants. Their focus on building strong relationships creates a deep sense of belonging for every child. They listen carefully, care deeply, and hold an unwavering belief in the limitless potential of every learner; something that is evident in every interaction and every learning experience they design.
This year also marked a reimagining of our campus environment. With the redesign of our main entrance, office, and several learning spaces, our school has been renewed in ways that reflect our values. These changes have brought joy to our community, and we are especially grateful to our incredible support teams who made these transformations possible.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our parents and families. Whether you’ve helped with events, cheered from the sidelines, or partnered with us in your child’s learning journey, your involvement has been greatly appreciated.
As we close this chapter, I encourage all our students to pause and reflect on what they’ve accomplished; to appreciate the opportunities they’ve embraced and recognise the difference they are already making as active global citizens.
I look forward with great excitement to all that awaits us in the year ahead.

Student leadership at JB has a significant role in equipping students with the skills they need to become active, responsible and engaged citizens. Our Year 6 Prefects have been invaluable in helping the school to run efficiently and have been excellent ambassadors for our school.
Their roles have included introducing initiatives to the school, gathering Student Voice on school-related issues, presenting our character strength of the week in assembly and supporting the office staff. They have also assisted on parent tours and have inspired younger students in Early Years and KS1 classes.
The prefects have willingly given their time to help make our school a better place and we are very proud of them.
Our Student Councillors are elected by their classes and perform an extremely important job at the Primary Campus. Student councillors represent the views of the students in their classes, attend meetings and discuss ideas and opinions about all matters relating to life at the Primary Campus. Their input has enabled Student Voice to be heard and they have created positive change at the JB campus. Attending meetings in their own time, our Student Council members have shown themselves to be dedicated to their roles and we are very proud of them for the contribution they have made.

This year in RT we have been celebrating our diverse backgrounds, nationalities and beliefs. Did you know that amongst the adults and children in RT class, there are 8 different languages spoken? We have challenged ourselves to make the classroom as welcoming as possible for everyone; a place where our voices are heard, no matter what language we speak.
Encouraging each other to welcome our friends in our home languages is just one small thing we can do to celebrate our differences. We love to look at different books in our home languages in the Multilingual Book Nook, and take pride in sharing stories, objects and photographs in the language of our choice. Acknowledging and appreciating our differences allows us to become a classroom inclusive of all.
RH has been filled with exciting opportunities this year to explore new things. Through these experiences, we've gained a deeper understanding of who we are. We've become experts in building, creating, reading, and so much more. Along the way, we've learnt how to work together as a team, show respect for others, and, most importantly, believe in ourselves. It's truly been a magical year in RH!
I look in the mirror and what do I see? I see the me that no one else can be. I am precious. I am glad to be me. My hair, my face, my personality. My size, my shape, the colour of my skin; all make up me, outside and in. -author unknown-
In 1M, our amazing children thrive through independent, child-led learning. They are deeply engaged, making meaningful choices and exploring with curiosity and creativity. Through play and inquiry, they build essential skills like problem-solving, communication, and resilience. Whether collaborating, creating, or investigating, they confidently navigate their learning journeys, growing into independent and inquisitive learners. Each step brings new discoveries and joyful achievements!
Creativity comes from a willingness to try different things, and to see things in a different way. Creativity is experimenting, inventing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, growing and having lots of fun. This year in 1I we have been motivated to be creative by following our own interests. We have been creative in many ways - through role-play; art; drawing and painting; junk modelling and crafting; building and construction; questioning and talking; playing games; water and sand play; writing stories and poems; musical exploration; reading stories - it’s all part of our learning journey in Year 1.
Ms Jamuna
“Creativity fuels our imagination, and our imaginations fuels our dreams for a better world.”

In Year 1, we have been showcasing excellent teamwork by constructing creations using our knowledge of materials and their properties. Working in groups, the children selected various materials to create functional structures. Through collaboration, our children discussed ideas, shared insights, and made decisions together. As challenges arose, students used their problem-solving skills to adjust their designs, and consider alternative solutions. This investigation not only deepened their understanding of materials, but also enhanced communication, critical thinking, and creativity, as our 1T children worked together to overcome obstacles and successfully constructed their creative creations.

All year long, 3S students have shown they are a force to be reckoned with, demonstrating their love for learning! This was evident from the start of the year, when they launched into a unit exploring forces, beginning with an epic interclass tug-of-war! They delved into the fascinating world of contact and non-contact forces, friction, air resistance, magnetism, and gravity. Hands-on experiments brought these ideas to life, culminating in students designing and building their own moving machines to demonstrate forces in action. 3S has brought energy, enthusiasm, and excitement to their learning every single day!
3M have been on an exciting journey into poetry! We explored and experienced writing different types of poems, including cinquains, acrostic poems, and shape poems. 3M worked hard to use exciting vocabulary and figurative language to make our poems come to life. With enthusiasm, we practiced performing with expression, actions, and eye contact and worked on giving feedback to each other to help us improve and make progress. Our hard work paid off when we showcased our poems at the Year 3 Poetry Picnic, where we impressed our audience with our self belief and creativity.
3I have thoroughly enjoyed their learning this year, but their favourite lessons by far were when they had to use their cooking skills. The children learnt how to make a healthy Malaysian noodle salad and their own sushi roll. They took great care using knives, graters and peelers, ensuring they kept their workspace clean and tidy. Equally, they enjoyed writing stepby-step instructions so that others could follow the recipe too. 3I have been a pleasure to teach. They are so enthusiastic and motivated to learn. They are incredible communicators and always try to be kind and caring towards others. What a wonderful year we have had and I look forward to watching them grow and develop further in Year 4. Thank you, 3I!
This year, 3T embarked on an inspiring journey of advocacy and action, sparked by the thought-provoking text ‘Greta and the Giants’. Inspired by Greta Thunberg’s story, they embraced their role as changemakers, recognising the power of their voices in shaping the world around them.
Through the lens of inquiry learning, they explored the importance of taking meaningful action and making informed decisions. Motivated to improve their learning environment, they carefully observed their surroundings, identified areas for change, and expressed their opinions through persuasive letters. Their words carried purpose, demonstrating a deep understanding of how small actions can lead to meaningful improvements.
Determined to take their learning beyond the classroom, they organised a peaceful protest within the school, standing united for what they believed in. Their commitment to advocacy, collaboration, and respectful communication exemplified the power of young voices in driving change.
This year, we became global citizens! Through sharing stories, we journeyed to faraway lands, discovering different cultures and traditions. Our cultural celebration lunch was a delicious adventure! We tasted foods from around the world, shared stories, and celebrated our diverse classroom family.
We also learned to be environmental activists, discussing ways to protect our planet. We discovered that everyone is unique and special, and we celebrated our differences. We learned to be kind and respectful to everyone, no matter where they come from. We explored how small actions can make big changes for the environment and how we can use our voices to advocate for a healthier Earth.
You have all shown a wonderful passion for learning and making the world a better place. You are the future, and it fills me with hope to see your enthusiasm. We are lucky to have such passionate students.
4S, each and every one of you should be so proud of what you have achieved together as a class this year! You have each brought your own unique qualities, to create a friendly, supportive and industrious learning environment. It has been amazing watching you all grow together!
Using your fantastic inquiry skills and character strength of curiosity, you have been on a brilliant biology learning journey. We have explored living things in our world and why it is important to classify these; admired the beautiful ‘shying crowns’ canopy on our trip to FRIM and investigated what happens to our food as it travels through our bodies. What brilliant biologists you are!
What a year it’s been in 4M! Our classroom was filled with curiosity, big ideas, and plenty of laughter as we explored the world through our conceptbased inquiry curriculum. But what made this year truly special was the way we learned together - asking questions, sharing discoveries, and cheering each other on. Through teamwork, kindness, and respect, we built strong friendships and a classroom community where everyone felt valued. From exciting projects to everyday moments of joy, this year was all about growing, connecting, and having fun along the way!
Wonderful, awe inspiring and full of discovery! What a fantastic year we have had 4I! As a 4I family, you have collaborated to build solid relationships both personally and as classmates during our exciting and challenging inquiry units. We have been on a true journey together and it has taken us to the most incredible places. Your inquisitive minds, creative and inspiring questions and your outstanding love of learning has ensured we have achieved so much together with some outstanding results. You have developed resilience, independence and courage, something that was very obvious to see during our exciting trip to Port Dickson. I have enjoyed every moment, seeing you reach for the stars and shining brightly. Continue on this journey being your best selves, smashing through your goals and continuing to be the wonderful humans I have had the pleasure of teaching this year.
What an incredible year it has been in 4T! Our inquiry curriculum took us on exciting journeys, from exploring celebrations around the world to uncovering the wonders of ancient civilisations. We investigated structures, discovered the fascinating journey of digestion, and built resilience on our unforgettable residential trip! Whether working together, tackling challenges, or sharing laughs, we learned and grew in so many ways. Through curiosity and collaboration, we made discoveries, formed friendships, and created memories to last a lifetime. What a fantastic year to remember!
What an amazing year it's been in 4H!
Our concept-based inquiry curriculum ignited our curiosity, filling our classroom with big ideas as we explored the world around us. Our residential trip to Port Dickson was a highlight, teaching us the true meaning of perseverance as we faced new challenges together. Back in the classroom, we continued to learn side-by-side, asking thoughtful questions, sharing exciting discoveries, and supporting each other every step of the way. Through teamwork, kindness, and respect, we built strong friendships and a classroom community where everyone felt valued and belonged. From engaging projects to everyday moments of connection, this year was all about growth, connection, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Here's to all the learning, laughter, and fun that made 4H such a special place to be!
5S have proven themselves to be confident explorers of contrasting cultures. In one inquiry, we discussed ‘Civilisation’ and ‘Respect’ in relation to our modern world, before investigating how these concepts linked to ‘Ancient Greece’. We learned about democracy, social classes and Ancient Greek culture, including the significance of the Olympics Games! Finally, we researched and presented information about a historical civilisation of our choice, emphasising how these societies showed honour and reverence. After a blockbuster year, it is safe to say that 5S children always throw themselves at each challenge with enthusiasm and determination! It has been a real joy to have witnessed the effort and dedication that you have all made to progress this year as learners, collaborators and, most importantly, as people. Well done and good luck!
5M fully immersed themselves in the world of performance, bringing energy and creativity to every aspect of their learning. Throughout the unit, they explored a variety of exciting opportunities, including researching, presenting, hot-seating and dressing up! As part of their hands-on experience, they designed and crafted headbands using different textile techniques and stitching. A highlight of the unit was their fantastic work on playscripts, especially their lively performance of a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was a truly unforgettable experience!
5I has enjoyed exploring the big question, "How does force cause change?"
Through hands-on investigations, we deepened our understanding of scientific forces like friction, buoyancy, gravity, and air resistance.
Beyond science, we also examined how well-known public figures have caused change, helping us see the impact of forces not just in science but in the world around us.
Our learning was active, engaging, and filled with curiosity. Whether testing forces in experiments, discussing influential changemakers, or collaborating on force machine projects, we embraced challenges and discovered new perspectives.
This year has been one of growth, inquiry, and excitement - leaving us inspired to keep exploring, questioning, and making a difference!
5T have completely immersed themselves in the world of myths and legends, learning all about different gods, monsters and magical realms from the Ancient Greeks to our very own Langkawi island. Through storytelling, role play, story mapping and writing they have become experts in retelling well-known myths and can pick out the moral or key message with ease. The children combined their Greek history knowledge, love of reading and their writing skills to get creative with AI designing mythical creatures and magical landscapes to tell a legendary story of their own. We are sure the myths and legends that 5T authored will be told for years to come!
Campus - 5H
What a year it has been for 5H! We have explored the world through inquiry, asking big questions and making exciting discoveries along the way. Our favourite unit was Explorers, where we learned how adventurers choose their supplies, think critically, and work creatively as a team. This year, our primary art programme focused on building technical skills and fostering student agency. Through inquiry-driven projects, young artists explored various mediums, developing both their craft and creative confidence. Projects encouraged exploration and experimentation, allowing students to make choices that reflect their personal artistic visions. Whether working independently or collaboratively, our artists have gained a deeper understanding of the art-making process while celebrating the joy of self-expression!
Outstanding projects created by our students display their curiosity and progress in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking:
Saya gemar meneroka dan mencari jawapan bagi setiap persoalan. Saya teruja mencuba perkara baharu dengan penuh semangat!
Our students have demonstrated curiosity by delving into each task with excitement and energy. "Life is an exploration."

Our libraries are the places on campus to head to if you want to read, relax or chill out with friends. Each break and lunchtime the libraries are full of enthusiastic students eager to get their hands on exciting new books! We are open before and after school for families and we love welcoming younger siblings to share the magic of the library. We even have a baby and toddler group on a Wednesday morning that offers a chance to socialise and enjoy stories in the Early Years library.

PE lessons at the JB campus are focussed on creating powerful, engaging and meaningful experiences. Lessons are designed to spark personal joy in movement and create a delight in exploring both physical and mental challenges through physical activity. We look to foster a life changing relationship with movement and active living.
Across the year we have been so proud of every student in Alice Smith as they bring such unbridled enthusiasm, energy and desire to learn in every lesson as we make meaningful PE memories.
This has been another fantastic year of movement.
Students and staff at both campuses came together in a sea of denim and blue for Jeans for Genes Day, raising awareness of genetic conditions and their impact on families—including some within our own school community. This annual event is a meaningful reminder of the importance of research, support, and understanding. Through our collective effort, we not only showed solidarity but also helped spark conversations about inclusivity and the challenges faced by those living with genetic conditions.
In November, our school community came together to honour the sacrifices of those who have shaped their nations and continue to work toward a safer, more peaceful world. Students, staff, and parents were invited to wear a poppy as a symbol of remembrance, while Year 12 students led thought-provoking assemblies at our Secondary Campus.
Through these assemblies, they explored the origins of Remembrance Day, the significance of the poppy, the far-reaching impact of the World Wars, and the psychological toll of conflict - particularly on young people. They also reflected on current global conflicts, highlighting the ongoing importance of remembrance.
A poignant two-minute silence gave everyone a chance to pause, reflect, and express their gratitude, ensuring that the lessons of the past continue to inspire hope for the future.
Our Term 3 Donation Drive, in partnership with the PTA, received an overwhelming response from families across both campuses, resulting in generous contributions of essential food items, clothing, shoes, toys, books, and games. These donations were distributed to six different charitable organisations, including children's homes, refugee schools, and groups supporting the urban poor and homeless communities. Thanks to the kindness of our school community, we were able to make a meaningful impact on those in need.
Our Alice Smith community came together to support children across Kuala Lumpur through our annual Christmas Giftbox Appeal. Led by our inspirational student leaders at both campuses, our giftbox appeal invited students and their families to put together boxes of gifts for children and young people in children’s homes, at refugee schools and for other children in need.
Some of the main recipients were children supported by Kechara Soup Kitchen, the refugee children of Cachin School, Siamsin Learning Centre, Grace Education Centre, The Peace Education Centre and Hriphi Community Learning Centre as well as Lotus Charity Care and Home of Peace.
The appeal began with a launch video which was scripted, presented and edited by our student leaders and shared with our community across both campuses. The generous response from the appeal led to over 800 boxes being collected in total. The recipients were absolutely delighted with their gifts. A huge thank you to everyone involved for their generosity!
In October, over fifty teachers and volunteers from refugee and charity schools in and around KL participated in a TeachMeet training event with almost twenty members of Alice Smith staff who facilitated discussions and training, covering a range of areas linked to pedagogy and school organisation. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended and it is intended that this will become an annual opportunity for both Alice Smith staff and those from our partner schools to enhance their professional learning and network.
The support for schools has also encompassed the teachers and volunteers. Through our Alice Smith School Foundation, we have been able to support teachers from Grace Education Centre to achieve their Level 3 TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification. This is a fantastic achievement and one which will stand them in good stead in enabling the children in their school to develop their English skills.
Our partnership work with students and teachers from UNHCR-affiliated schools has gone from strength to strength this year. Our Sixth Form students have continued to host a weekly activity club for students from Grace Education Centre, via our EPA programme, as part of which the students from the school have been able to take part in a wide range of activities from crafts to science to sports, and much much more. As well as being a fantastic opportunity for the young people from our partner school to take part in new activities, our Sixth formers have developed, nurtured their connection skills and enriched the lives of the children they have supported.
This year, 65 KLASS students embraced the challenge of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, demonstrating resilience, teamwork, and leadership across all levels.
Bronze participants will embark on their Adventurous Journeys at MAEPS and Slim River, experiencing hiking and camping in the Malaysian wilderness for the first time. Silver students faced tough navigation and long treks during their practice at Carey Island before qualifying in the misty Boh Tea Plantation of Cameron Highlands, battling rain and rugged terrain. Gold Year 12 students trained alongside Year 13 qualifiers, kayaking through the vast Tasik Temenggor in Royal Belum, making independent route choices in a demanding environment. Year 12 will complete their qualifier in May at Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu.
A huge thank you to our dedicated staff leaders, volunteer assessors and academic support staff for making these unforgettable experiences possible!
Embracing the richness of our diverse community through the many festivals we celebrate together - a wonderful reminder of culture, connection, and shared experiences.
A huge thank you to our amazing community for making International Fest such a vibrant and unforgettable celebration! From colourful cultures to delicious cuisines, music, dance and moreit was a true showcase of diversity, learning and global spirit.
We believe that each child is a unique, special and beautiful creation of God. We hope that through the generosity of time of our volunteers and our care and attention to every individual joining CF at both campuses, we are helping them realise their worth in Christ and bring out their best, thus fulfilling the school's vision.
Our weekly EPCF and CCF is a non-denomination, Bible-based fellowship cultivating our student's faith and identity, equipping them with the right tools for their journey in life.

KLASS Meds has had an incredible year, bringing together passionate students to explore the fascinating world of life science! With the help of our amazing Assistant Heads, we’ve expanded our reach and introduced exciting new workshops that let students engage with science in creative ways.
This year, we were able to mix biology with the holiday and host a ‘Christmas-cell’ cookie workshop, where students decorated cookies to look like plant or animal cells, organs and even specialised structures - while enjoying tasty treats! We also got hands-on with chemistry in our Hand Cream Workshop, where participants crafted their own moisturisers while understanding the science behind emulsions and skincare. Of course, our class dissections, debates and investigations on medical topics continued to inspire future doctors and scientists.
KLASS Meds isn’t just a club - it’s a community where curiosity can flourish. We can’t wait to bring even more exciting activities next year and keep sharing our passion for life sciences!

UNIVERSITY LECTURES
It has been another fantastic year supporting students in their pathways planning. With a refreshed team, we welcomed two new experienced counsellors, Ms Nicola Scott and Ms Grace Dickinson, who have brought fresh perspectives to our provision.
We have enjoyed working with students across year groups, with highlights including:
• Launched our new careers platform, Unifrog
• Hosted university fairs covering the UK, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia
• Organised 15+ academic lectures with leading university professors
• Introduced a caseload model for Senior School counselling
• Expanded parent engagement through termly Coffee Mornings
• Introduced the Concourse Match reverse admissions platform
We are immensely proud of our graduating class and their diverse ambitions. This year’s most popular pathways include Psychology, Economics, and Engineering, with a rise in gap year plans. Other key trends:
• 5 Oxbridge offers
• Record-high offers for Law degrees
• Offers to study Veterinary Medicine and Medicine
• Global offers from universities in the USA, Canada, France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Germany
• 11 students from the Class of ‘24 heading to Australia
We wish our Year 13 students the best of luck and look forward to following their journeys!
Since Term 1, our specialist pathways for Oxbridge, US, and Medicine-related applicants have been in full swing.
UNIVERSITY FAIRS
With a dedicated team of counsellors, students are well-equipped to align their interests, strengths, and values with future career success.
Peter Pan, like its namesake, is a tale which never ages. Children and adults alike have all fallen under the spell of Neverland, a place where children can fly and exciting, frightening adventures happen every single day. The character himself embodies a timelessness most people desire, a happiness achievable only by children who do not know pain and fear. Peter Pan brought endless sparkle to our lives. We embraced the boundless energy of fairy-tale and make-believe.
Beauty & the Beast was the culmination of six months of hard work, creativity and fun! With over a hundred students and teachers involved, it was one of the biggest events at school this year and the audience loved the wonderful singing and acting, colourful costumes and incredible teamwork that was showcased. The Drama and Music departments would like to thank all students that were involved in the orchestra, cast and tech teams. Bravo!

Trips Week 2024 was a remarkable showcase of adventure, resilience, and personal growth, offering students a diverse range of developmental experiences. Across 14 concurrent trips - 7 local and 7 international - students embraced new challenges and deepened their skills in unique environments. This year saw the introduction of exciting new experiences, including a climbing expedition to Krabi and a community-focused trek in the Himalayas.
Established trips continued to push students beyond their comfort zones, with diving, surfing, and sailing trips refining technical skills, while our STEM and language-focused experiences fostered deep learning.
Our Year Group trips, always a highlight, balanced adventure, teamwork, and challenge, strengthening our sense of community. These shared experiences brought students closer together, deepening existing friendships and forging new ones. Trips Week continues to be a cornerstone of our Alice Smith education, equipping students with invaluable skills, lasting memories, and a spirit of exploration.
Our Year 6 students have been enjoying a range of experiences at the Secondary Campus, building confidence and familiarity as they prepare for the transition ahead. In Term 1, they immersed themselves in Creative and Expressive Arts, exploring Drama, Music, and Art.
Term 2 saw them return for taster sessions with our Languages and PE departments. In addition, our Prefects were also around to guide them through activities, discovering more about campus life.
We look forward to welcoming them back, knowing that with their continued enthusiasm, they will thrive in the next stage of their educational journey.
Secondary Extra Curricular Music
Lunchtime Concert
It's been another incredible year of music at the Secondary Campus. Our talented young musicians have not only performed at The Majestic Hotel and participated in the Intermediate Music FOBISIA Festival in Jakarta, but also played at events like the opening of the KLASS HUB and our amazing Christmas Concert, where musicians from both campuses joined together for the final performance. In addition to all of this, they were also busy with our school production, Beauty and the Beast. The dedication and commitment of our students is truly inspiring.
Carol Service Christmas Concert
A fabulous time was had at the FOBISIA Drama Festival hosted by Garden International School, KL. Fifteen students from Alice Smith worked with hundreds of other Drama students from across the region to create original pieces of work inspired by the theme of ‘Twisted Tales’. There were some incredible interpretations of existing fairytales as well as impressive innovative new work. It was a joy to see these students from middle school really develop their skills and we look forward to seeing them bring it back into the classroom. A big well done to all involved!
Our House Leaders have a very important role to play in the day to day operation of our school. They influence, motivate and guide the younger students, whilst developing their own character strengths.
The House Leaders’ main duties include:
• being excellent role models for the younger students
• supporting positive, safe and fair play
• being effective playground Equipment Resource Managers
• assisting with charity events such as the Christmas shoebox appeal
We are very proud of the positive difference our House Leaders have made at JB.
This year, Fairfield has stepped into every competition with originality, spirit, and a strong sense of togetherness. We kicked off House Day 1 with a win in the pickleball tournament. Pi seems to be our lucky number, as the middle school put their maths skills to the test—and came out on top—winning the Pi Day competition in exchange for sweet treats. The Christmas Sing-Off saw us take a different approach, standing out with an original song that highlighted our creativity. Fairfield had too much talent for Alice Smith’s Got Talent competition, making an impact with memorable performances. Shan Heng (Y7) impressed the audience with his legendary rhythm game skills, while Christian (Y12) juggled his way to victory—quite literally taking a bite out of the competition! Our house has aimed to bring something different to every event, ensuring that each competition was not just a contest but an experience for everyone involved. Fearless is more than just a word for Fairfield—it’s how we approach challenges. Our commitment to diversity, originality, and togetherness has been evident throughout the year. Our teachers embraced this in the dramatic Staff Come Dancing performance, under the creative choreography of Leanna Chng, proving that stepping outside your comfort zone can be rewarding.
From the numbers board to the stage to the sports field, we have made an impact, and this year has reflected our dedication and team spirit. Here’s to another year of Fairfield fearlessness!
Let’s a-Go Flemario’s! First off thank you, for making my first year as Head of Fleming so emphatically enjoyable & for all of your efforts. An especially big thank you to our wonderful prefects Afreen, Dheeraj and Mary for their support! It has been a massive pleasure to work for you all and I'm only sorry that we haven’t earned more points for all our hard work in the Sing off and House Day 1, but… We fight on, like Flemario & one power up is all we need!
In all honesty it has just been so fun getting to know all of those who I do not teach and meeting more of the teachers that I don't get to see, being tucked away in the mesmerising media department. The support, laughs and sweat has been an enormous help and made all of the events so much fun.
Thank You!
Well done, Team SCOTT! As always, Scott students have displayed excellent sportsmanship and hard work through the year. We kicked off the school year with the victory of House Day 1!
A big thank you to our incredible House Prefects - Erin, Avni & Serah for their leadership and guidance, to our captains, all the Scott students for their dedication and enthusiasm, and to our teachers for their continued support and encouragement. Your collective efforts have made this year a memorable one, and we couldn't have achieved this success without each of you.
We’re also excited to have introduced our new mascot, Sparky the Dragon, who has become a symbol of our team spirit and determination. Sparky has certainly sparked some extra energy and pride in Team SCOTT this year!
Here's to many more victories, both on and off the field! GREEN & GLORIOUS, SCOTT VICTORIOUS!

Batik, with its flowing lines and vibrant motifs, is more than fabric - it’s a living story. At the Alice Smith School, this traditional art form has been transformed into a design which expresses the essence of our school spirit and cultural identity.
Our journey to create a unique School Batik - a meaningful symbol that would capture the diversity, heritage, and shared values of our community, reflecting the heart of the school - began when we launched a student design competition. The response was nothing short of inspiring.
From intricate floral motifs to abstract representations of unity, the designs submitted by students across age groups reflected not only remarkable talent but also a deep sense of belonging. The winning entries, designed by Hyreen (10T), Ashley (10Q), Carla (5H), and Brandon (5H), stood out for their creativity and cultural sensitivity. These designs were then transformed into a cohesive, meaningful piece by renowned local batik artist, Mr. Tang Yeok Khang, resulting in a visual narrative that is both contemporary and timeless.
The final design of our school batik is rich with symbolism: Stars echo our school motto, “Sic Itur Ad Astra” (“Thus, one journeys to the stars”), symbolising the pursuit of excellence and our aspiration for our students to aim high, achieve excellence, and explore new possibilities.
Hibiscus ‘Bunga Raya’ is Malaysia’s national flower and symbolises love for the birth of our nation, including it in the design honours the school’s strong connections to Malaysian culture and heritage.
Community and Unity: The student with open arms signifies the joy and inclusivity that define Alice Smith School. Our diverse community celebrates the rich diversity of cultures and backgrounds, making our school a vibrant and unique community.
These elements don’t just decorate the fabric - they tell our story.
As I look back on my first year as Principal of our wonderful secondary school, I do so with immense gratitude and pride. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was warmly welcomed by a community that clearly places students at the heart of everything it does. It has been an incredible year of learning, growth and connection - and it’s clear that the strength of our school lies in the people who fill its classrooms, corridors and open spaces each day.
One of the many things that struck me early on is how deeply embedded the student-first ethos is in our school culture. Whether it’s in the classroom, on stage and in assemblies, on the sports field, or through leadership and service opportunities, our students are consistently placed on centre stage, where they belong. Watching them rise to challenges, express themselves and support one another has been truly inspiring.
This year, our school community has come together to celebrate a wide array of events and initiatives that have enriched our culture and brought life to our campus. From festive celebrations and studentled activities to meaningful assemblies and community projects, each occasion has played a part in fostering a spirit of unity, inclusion and joy. It has been inspiring to see students, families and staff actively engaging in these moments, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that truly reflects the heart of our school.
As the year comes to a close, we bid farewell to our Year 13 students and to each of them congratulations on reaching this important milestone in their lives. We are so proud of all that you’ve achieved and who you’ve become. As you step into the next chapter of your lives, know that you carry with you not only all that the school community has taught you, but the spirit of a school that believes in you. We wish you every success and happiness ahead.
As we look ahead to the academic year 2025-2026, we look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 students to the campus. We cannot wait to see the energy, curiosity and excitement you will bring to the secondary school. Your journey is just beginning and we hope you are as excited as we are for what lies ahead.
Surrounded by beautiful grounds and guided by a shared purpose, we move forward as a school community towards even greater things next year.
I leave you with one of my favourite quotes by Melody Beattie: “Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Student Leadership: Our Head Students
I am incredibly grateful to serve as a Head Student at a school like Alice Smith. The role has allowed me to learn and experience leadership in a way I never imagined it could do, and it’s been amazing to witness all the hard work and passion that goes on behind the scenes. Whilst I can only wish to take the credit for all the success this year, I owe so much of it to all the prefects, senior prefects and teaching staff involved in school events and initiatives. Their tireless efforts have not only improved the school but also strengthened the community we have here at Alice Smith, creating lasting memories for all of us. Being a Head Student has not only been a huge honour, but has also allowed me to grow as a human and as a leader. It has provided me with many important skills that will undoubtedly help me for years to come. I truly hope my involvements have added to this community and inspired younger students to take on student leadership roles. Thank you, Alice Smith, for giving me this opportunity and shaping me into the person I am today, and good luck to the upcoming Head Students, who will hopefully take this school even higher.
My academic journey at Alice Smith has taken me on an adventure of growth and new experiences. Ending my 14 years at the school as a Head Student has been a blessing and an incredible opportunity that has taught me resilience, courage and the value of hard work. I am incredibly grateful to the school and the community for encouraging me on this journey, allowing me to blossom into the person I am today. Working alongside the other Head Students and student leaders has been a joy and a learning experience like no other, and I will always be thankful for the support I’ve received. I can’t describe in words how much I would recommend to others to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and take a chance to shine like we have. I wish everyone leaving this year all the luck and success in the world. Thank you Alice Smith.
Student Leadership: Our Head Students
Growing up at Alice Smith has been a privilege, and having the role of Head Student in my final year has been an opportunity I will never forget. This school community has shaped me into the person I am today. This role has allowed me to work with a diverse range of students and staff, and in doing so, has shown me the integrity, respect, and commitment that each member brings. These values will stay with me, and continue to inspire me for years to come. I am deeply grateful to have been able to leave my mark on this school and to have given back to a community that has given me so much. This experience has truly allowed me to appreciate what makes this school so special—the people who make it what it is. I hope I've helped ignite a spark of ambition in the students who will follow me. With immense gratitude, I will carry forward all the lessons this community has taught me. Thank you, Alice Smith. Sic Itur Ad Astra: such is the way to the stars.
Friendship. That is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my time at Alice Smith. In the short two years that I’ve been here, something that has constantly stood out to me is how tight knit the community is, and it is truly gratifying to be a part of this. In both success and failure, I admire how our community looks out for each other, and appreciates the value of the genuine relationships we have formed. The second thing that was clear to me is that Alice Smith is rife with opportunity. I was amazed by how at each stage of secondary life there is an outstretched hand that invites students to take charge of their own lives at school and become leaders in every aspect, in a way that their peers can look up to. The Head Student role has enabled me to be a voice for our student community and I sincerely believe that we have inspired our younger peers to strive for success. It was a privilege to be a part of the Alice Smith community. Thank you, Alice Smith.

Came to this school 2 years ago. Found it strange and I didn’t know anyone or anything. Now it’s my favourite place and I found my favourite people here. Shout out to my teachers for all the patience and lessons, both school and life. AJ Tracey once said, “You where tryna keep me from winning, but I did it, I did it“, that’s kind of how I felt after dealing with all the change, but I did it.

Teachers: thanks for proving sleep deprivation is survivable. Classmates: cheers for sharing AQA MS trauma. Osmosis theory - that illogical potato losing weight (RIP H2O potential).Special thanks to my EPQ supervisor, I challenged myself to unravelling Schrödinger’s cat and my sanity in 72 hours. “Quantum entanglement=*procrastination entanglement*.” Still got that A+ - proof that chaos theory works.

Goodbye’s is just exothermic reaction—releasing memories, chaos, S ≥0. Like a particle in a 30% probability cloud—my attendance was Schrödinger’s attendance log, and the box was always empty. (Turns out quantum superposition works better in theory than Year 13.)

When I had my accident, I found out at that moment nothing in life is promised except death. If you had the opportunity to play this game of life, you need to appreciate every moment. A lot of people don’t appreciate their moment until its passed. I plan to celebrate and scream and pop champagne every chance I get cause I’m at the Alice Smith baby! I know... I know everybody ask me that question, they want to know, “what HannYe is getting well louder, he’s gonna do something crazy.” Everybody want to know what I would do if I didn’t win... Acknowledgment and gratitude are essential as I reflect on my academic journey. This milestone would not have been possible without the collective support of key individuals. To my educators: Your expertise and structured guidance have facilitated intellectual development and knowledge acquisition. Your contributions are deeply appreciated. To my family: Your consistent encouragement and foundational support have been instrumental in fostering resilience and determination. To my peers: Your collaboration, shared experiences, and motivational presence have contributed significantly to the learning process. Each challenge encountered has served as an opportunity for growth, and each success achieved is a testament to the collective effort of those who have supported this journey. The culmination of this educational phase is not solely an individual accomplishment but rather the result of an interconnected network of influence and support. With appreciation, I acknowledge this collective effort and look forward to future endeavours. Thank you.

I have learnt so much from experiences here, ‘the good and the bad and the ugly’, and I would like to think that I have changed for the better. I wish for the class of 2025 to have the experience to feel the gratitude I have felt and to have the efforts to grow into good people I know we are all capable of. “And to be honest, despite all my complaining, we have had a wonderful life.” Never let others’ judgement cloud yours as we can only ever show empathy for those. Boy oh boy, where do I even begin? Bicen Maths… honey, my pookie bear. I’ve loved you ever since I first laid eyes on your glorious channel. In November of 2023 I made the decision to take Further Maths over Economics which increased my study load tenfold, in the end I had dropped it before it was even two weeks into Year 13. The crazy part is that I don’t regret a single thing. I am still on triple A*s (touch wood) instead of four but that’s not the point.Be true and be happy. Play in the KLASS League with your friends, start your gym journey, begin your academic comeback - whatever. I firmly believe that everything good or bad happens for a reason but what matters most is what you do after to bounce back or to use that momentum to become even better. Because once it’s Sunday the 5th, you can never get back your Saturday the 4th. Don’t let your tomorrow become your yesterday without you impacting yourself and those around you positively.

It has been another exciting and active year in our Bahasa lessons! Our amazing students have continued to give of their very best, working hard and playing even harder in their learning of the language, its heritage and culture.
From Year 7 to Year 11, our diverse curriculum has had the students gaining insight into the rich tapestry of the national language and our host country, Malaysia. Their creativity and versatility are reflected by the incredible work they produce individually and as teams.
Please enjoy some examples of the works of our students!
H Y
The Art Department is proud to showcase this year’s outstanding Art & Design and Photography works, celebrating the creativity, passion, and dedication of our students. Through artistic exploration, they have developed confidence, problem-solving skills, and the courage to take creative risks; qualities that will inspire their future pathways in the arts and beyond.
Studying art empowers young people to think critically, express ideas, and innovate. It opens doors to endless possibilities, from creative industries to careers that value originality and vision. By embracing challenges and pushing boundaries, our students have produced unique and thought-provoking outcomes, each a testament to their talent and vision.
We invite you to take a moment to appreciate the beauty, depth, and personal narratives within these works, created by our gifted and imaginative artists.
‘Give yourself permission to be an artist; choose a pathway where ideas are king, curiosity reigns and creativity takes courage.’ Kevin Jackson.
The highlight for many of our students is how immersed our subject is in the real world. Below is a short reflection on a trip we made to Malaysia's Central Bank. The images on the outside encapsulate what students enjoy most about learning Business and Economics.
"For many of us, the trip to Bank Negara Malaysia has definitely made a lasting impression. Contrary to the usual mode of transport, we made our way to the Central Bank as a group via the MRT, which was a refreshing experience. Upon arriving at Bank Negara, what impressed me most was the elegance and sophistication of the bank's facilities: the imposing office structures, grand spiral staircase, interactive museum exhibits - each element reflected the high standards of globally esteemed institutions. It's safe to say that this excursion not only enriched our understanding of Business & Economics in the real world but also unveiled a side of Malaysia that people often overlook, showcasing the country's progress and potential for the future.”
This year has been an electrifying one for the Computing Department! Our students have showcased their passion for coding through active participation in various competitions, pushing their skills to new heights. A major highlight was our success at the prestigious Malaysian Coding Competition, where our representatives made us proud with an outstanding performance.
Closer to home, we hosted the highly anticipated KL Coding Cup, an event that brought together brilliant young programmers. With meticulous planning and teamwork, we delivered a well-organized competition that was praised by all participants. To top it off, our team’s dedication and problem-solving expertise led us to claim the Silver Cup!
The energy, innovation, and teamwork in our department continues to inspire. As we look ahead, we’re excited to see even greater achievements in the world of computing!
Here’s to another year of coding excellence!
This year in Drama has been fantastic, with students demonstrating their excellent levels of skill and creativity. It has been wonderful to see Year 7 join the school with confidence and energy and fully embrace their drama lessons. Year 8 have shown dedication to bringing scripts to life in determined and creative ways, whilst Year 9 had a great time exploring the work of Splendid Productions with their entertaining performances of Medea. Our exam classes have worked incredibly hard producing many pieces of original drama as well as bringing scripted plays to life on stage. We thank Year 11 and 13 for their dedication to the final year of their Drama courses and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. Well done to every student that has been part of the Drama journey this year.
The Extended Project Qualification develops students’ independent research skills and their ability to reflect on and evaluate their own ideas and new skills as they engage confidently in a large-scale project. Benefitting their transition to Higher Education and the world beyond school, the Extended Project Qualification gives students the independence to develop an area of their free choice and then plan and deliver to a timescale - whilst developing their academic research capabilities. This year, students have continued to amaze us with their passion, curiosity and determination in projects exploring STEM to languages, economics to sport. These all reflect the wonderful diversity of Year 12. Whatever the topic, the students have demonstrated true intellectual curiosity, deep research and presentation confidence. In the words of Samuel Johnson, “Curiosity is one of the most permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect” and the Year 12 EPQ students have truly lived up to this quote!
“Generositas temporis ad magnalia.” (A generosity of time towards great things.)
Creativity, ambition, and innovation drive our Design Technology program. From Year 7 through to A Level, our curriculum nurtures problemsolving skills, technical expertise, and a passion for design that extends beyond the classroom. With a generosity of time dedicated to great things, we provide students with opportunities to refine their skills and master their craft.
In Key Stage 3, students engage with a broad range of materials, tools, and processes, gaining a firm understanding of design principles. From woodworking to digital development, they explore sustainable design, smart materials, and emerging technologies. Our Parent Empowerment Workshops reinforce this learning by engaging families in sustainable materials discussions and problem-solving manufacturing experiences, creating a shared vision for environmentally responsible design.
The annual Design Technology Showcase Exhibition, held from August to September 2024, highlights the creativity and ingenuity of students across our senior year groups. This exhibition provides a platform for students to present their projects to the school community, industry professionals, and parents, celebrating the exceptional work produced throughout the year.
Our GCSE students take their knowledge to the next level, honing technical skills while tackling real-world contextualised challenges. They apply CAD, CAM, and prototyping techniques to develop products that are both functional and aesthetically refined. Their commitment and dedication have led to global recognitionPearson Edexcel awarded us Best in the World for GCSE Design Technology for a second consecutive year. These achievements reflect not only their talent but also the unwavering support of our dedicated teachers and school community.
At A Level, students push boundaries, designing with purpose and vision. With a strong focus on user-centred design, they develop innovative solutions that address contemporary challenges. Whether through advanced digital modelling or precision engineering, they demonstrate a level of creativity and technical expertise that consistently earns international acclaim. This year, we proudly celebrate being named Best in Asia for A Level Product Design by Pearson Edexcel, a testament to the outstanding work of our students.
DT Jam Days in November and February allow GCSE and A Level students to perfect their processes, refine their technical skills, and deepen their knowledge through hands-on practical challenges. These dedicated days of intensive learning and experimentation help students push their boundaries and achieve excellence.
Our graduates go on to top universities across the UK, Europe, USA, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand, pursuing careers in Product Design, Architecture, Engineering, and Medical Engineering. The skills they develop here — critical thinking, problem-solving, and resilience — equip them for success in an ever-evolving world.
We don’t just teach design—we shape futures. Through innovation, excellence, and empowerment, we continue to inspire the next generation of designers, engineers, and creative leaders. The journey begins here, but its impact lasts a lifetime.

The European Languages team have been busy inspiring students to promote a future where diversity and multilingualism is celebrated. Through hosting multiple activities over the course of the year, like carols singing, cooking, watching movies in original versions, and even the school’s first L SS S competition, the team has endeavoured to immerse students into the world of languages. n a world where multilingualism is at the forefront of global communication, these language skills foster a greater appreciation of community and lead to a more interconnected world.
Senior Language Prefect
Serving as a Language Prefect has been an incredibly rewarding e perience, allowing me to foster a deeper appreciation for languages and cultures within our school. From organising Mother Tongue Day, where students shared and celebrated their native languages, to helping younger students build confidence in their language s ills, I have seen firsthand how language connects us beyond words.
As one of this year’s Language Prefects, I have thoroughly enjoyed further immersing our school into the world of languages and culture. It is what connects us together and I hope that through this role, we have strengthened interconnectednessour by celebrating the different languages that are spo en at Alice Smith.
Our Year 11 Geographers visit to Janda Baik in the Genting Highlands was a fantastic opportunity for students to see some geography in action. Our students immersed themselves in the day by collecting data in the river as they traced the river's course! Our Year 11’s applied their classroom knowledge to real-world fieldwork, gaining valuable hands-on experience. It was a brilliant day out, filled with learning, exploration, and teamwork. An unforgettable highlight of their coursework journey!
The Year 13 Geography coursework trip to Dolphin Bay, Thailand, took learning to new heights! Despite battling unexpected wet weather, students explored the impacts of tourism in Cha Am and Hua Hin and witnessed firsthand how human actions shape the coastal environment in Dolphin Bay. From field studies to real-world case studies, it was an unforgettable experience that brought geography to life in the most exciting way! Our geographers were absolute legends on this trip showing passion, determination and drive to collect as much valuable data for their coursework investigation. Some great geography in action!!
Our brilliant Year 9 winners of the inaugural globalisation project took on the challenge of creating a clothing brand and they absolutely nailed it! From designing an eye-catching logo and stylish apparel to mapping out supply chains and ethical sourcing strategies, they showcased incredible creativity and business acumen. Their pitch brought their brand vision to life, demonstrating a deep understanding of market competition, pricing, and sustainability. They carefully considered the impact of their choices, from fair trade materials to minimising their carbon footprint. With passion, teamwork, and a keen eye for detail, they created a brand that could rival the best in the industry. A huge congratulations to our winning team, Annie, Aydin, Hong Kong, Ayra and Megan for their outstanding effort and innovation in creating Jumeirah Luxe!
In History, we really are an ‘interesting’ bunch.
Put away that image of an Historian down in the basement lost in the archives, or locked away in the depths of a museum or library.
We Historians at Alice Smith are active and engaging, charismatic and fun.
We try to bring that love of life with us as a History Department with the range of activities we do in our lessons…but also beyond the curriculum.

This year has been an extraordinary one for the Maths Department at Alice Smith School, filled with outstanding achievements and enrichment opportunities. One of our proudest moments was seeing six of our students qualify for Round 2 of the British Mathematical Olympiad (BMO2)—a historic achievement for our school. This places them among the top young mathematicians in the world, a testament to their talent and dedication.
Ryan (Year 8) earned a medal in the individual round
We also defended our title as Kuala Lumpur Senior Maths Competition (KLSMC) champions at Garden International School, reinforcing our reputation as a powerhouse in competitive mathematics. Our students excelled in the FOBISIA Maths Competition, where Ryan (Year 8) earned a medal in the individual round. Additionally, our Maths with Daryl Lecture Series provided inspiring learning experiences, all driven by the leadership of our incredible prefect team, Sacksham and Zhang Ning.
This year has truly showcased the strength of our maths community. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
The music department has had an amazing year, filled with opportunities for our students to express their creativity and build confidence through performing, composing, and analysing music. Our students have become more skilled with music technology, producing outstanding work in our computer suite. The elective band has not only performed but also spent time in the recording studio, creating their own track.

The Student Support Programme is a scheme run by the The Personalised Learning Faculty. It is an initiative that encourages Year 12 students to volunteer their support by aiding younger pupils in their mainstream subjects once a week.
The project began with just 8 students in 2016 and will be in its 9th year come August 2025. In that time, it has won the prestigious International School Award for Inclusion in 2021, been the focus of articles in educational publications, e.g. International School Leader Magazine and has been adopted and adapted by a number of schools around the world.
Over 82% (or 97 students) of the current Year 12 cohort have become involved in the programme making it the highest number of volunteers since its inception 8 years ago.
Here, we talk to 4 students from last year's scheme and hear of their experiences with supporting others.
What did you enjoy most about supporting other students in lessons?
Whilst supporting my year 7 class, I was able to build bonds with so many unique students regardless of the difference in our year groups. When students found content and concepts difficult, I would support them as best I could and after a few weeks, I could see students who struggled with a concept before, now had a full understanding of this topic and had confidence when answering questions around it. Seeing first hand the impact of my support was definitely what I enjoyed most about this experience.
What were the most valuable skills you learned from participating in the scheme?
I think the most valuable skill I learned from the programme was adaptability, as I learned how to change my approach to explaining ideas or methods to cater to different students with different ways of thinking, to make sure they are fully able to understand and grasp concepts.
What did you find particularly challenging?
Anything you'd like to add about your experience with the SSP?
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to participate in such an amazing programme. To this day, when I see children from my SSP class we smile at each other and say hi. This experience has allowed me to help students and I hope that they will remember me and what they learnt for years to come. I am so grateful to have had at least a small impact on some students' lives just like my senior peers have done on mine.
I worked with lots of different students who had different personalities and different attitudes. The biggest challenge was working out how to work with each student and what would help them the most.
How has the programme helped you in your academic and/or personal growth?
The programme allowed me a different perspective on learning, and made me realize that teaching others is one of if not the best way to solidify your knowledge. Since then I have sought to help my classmates during class and out of class. Aside from academic growth, I have also got better at communicating with people who are younger than me; I've realized how much patience is required for this.
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."

Our journey through Physical Education has been one of growth, passion, and development. In Core PE, we embraced a concept-based curriculum, focusing not just on the physical skills, but understanding the principles behind movement, fitness, and health. This approach helped us build a foundation for lifelong physical activity and developed critical thinking, strategy, and resilience.
As Year 9 Elective Sports Leaders, students embraced the responsibility of guiding and inspiring others through sport, developing leadership and teamwork skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom.
GCSE Physical Education furthered students’ knowledge by combining theory with practical application, while A Level Physical Education deepened their understanding of the science behind movement, health, and performance.
Through these experiences, students have developed transferable skills such as problem-solving, communication, and perseverance, preparing them for success both in sport and in life.
What were the motIvatIons behind the Social media page?
Initially, we wanted to find a fun and memorable way to revise Psychology. Our goal was to condense complex psychological concepts into an accessible format - both as a quick revision resource for ourselves and as an educational tool for those unfamiliar with the subject. The positive response on social media encouraged us to take our content further, applying psychological theories to real-life scenarios. For instance, in one post, we explored how minority social influence played a role in Rosa Parks' defiance, ultimately contributing to the Civil Rights Movement. Through this approach, we aimed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire others to see the relevance of psychology in everyday life!
What post has received the most InteractIon from followers?
We collaborated with an educational account focused on environmental preservation to create a post on the impact of green spaces on mental health, merging their focus with psychological concepts. We explored the benefits of green spaces through topics like biopsychology - covering hormonal regulation, anxiety, and depression - and social influence, discussing how these spaces boost self-esteem. We even linked it to memory by highlighting improvements in cognitive function. To deepen our research, we connected classroom knowledge to real-world examples, including the development of Japanese Forest Bathing in the 1980s

I find it fascinating how much of what we learn in the classroom can be seen in everyday life, and how much of my own behaviour can be explained by simple theories we learn.
do you lIke most about the Psychology
Eloise
For me it was doing something different and studying a subject I had not taken before. I love how I am now able to make connections between what we have learned and real life.
Ella I really love psychology because of how it helps me understand why people think, feel, and act the way they do, allowing me to build stronger connections with others while gaining a deeper insight into my own behaviour and emotions.
Why did you choose to study Psychology at University?
Eloise I want to do something that interests me and I like the courses which have Sports Psychology in too; this is something I have a passion for. It is maybe too specific to do this on its own so I am choosing to do Psychology but with courses that have Sports Psychology modules too.
Riv Psychology is one of the subjects that has concepts that can be looked at from many angles and that could have multiple interpretations. This approach of explaining something is what interests me the most. I would like to contribute to psychological research in the future, particularly in the topics of mental illness and emotions.
Ella
Studying psychology at A Level has shown me how deeply it connects to everyday life and my own experiences, with theories and multiple approaches explaining everything from decision making to emotional well-being. I’m excited to explore this more at University as working with people is something I hope to do!
This year was filled with exciting scientific experiences that greatly enriched students' learning! They engaged in a variety of activities, starting with STEM Day, which offered hands-on workshops and challenges in physics, chemistry, and biology. University talks at school also provided valuable insights, including the University of Bristol's lecture on "The Cellular and Molecular Basis of Memory" and a session on Viruses and Microbes. The Year 13 Biology trip to the Putrajaya Wetlands also allowed students to gain practical fieldwork experience, focusing on sampling techniques and ecological data collection. The Science Fair was a highlight, with students presenting innovative projects that offered real-world solutions to challenges. Additionally, the KLASS Med EPA program exposed students to various medical research, broadening their perspectives on global issues. These experiences not only sparked a deeper passion for science but also encouraged students to explore new fields of study!
