Activity

Advanced DT Skills Learn to use a range of CAD CAM processes. This will focus on using programs such as 2D Design, Lightburn, Tinkercad and Fusion360. You will have an opportunity to explore how to use the CNC router, the 3D printers, the Fibre Laser Cutter (Metals) and the Laser Cutter (Acrylic and laser ply). Given time there may be opportunities to use the bag press and other manufacturing processes to enhance your skills, knowledge and understanding. Learning Outcomes: • Upskill your CAD/CAM • Be able to adjust the setting on the computer to manufacture products created on a given program • Be able to understand how CAD CAM is used in manufacturing processes

Board games An opportunity for students to engage in various board games, fostering critical thinking and social interaction. Learning Outcomes: • Enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills through board game strategies • Improve social interaction, communication, and teamwork through playing with others • Develop patience, sportsmanship and adaptability in different game scenarios

Asian Cooking Ignite your culinary passions with Asian Cooking, led by the team that bring you Bake With Love! Looking to explore the diverse flavors of Asia, learn new cooking techniques, and create dishes that will wow your friends and family? This paid course is perfect for those eager to dive into the world of Asian cuisine. Payment is to be made in advance via KLASSops (Paybill module). This fee covers all session ingredients, cooking equipment, and a chef’s apron, which you get to keep! Students will also receive an exclusive recipe book and apron from the Asian Cooking course to cherish. More than just following recipes, this course is designed to teach you essential cooking skills that will be invaluable throughout your life. Ceramics Students explore hand-building techniques to create functional and artistic ceramic pieces. This activity encourages creativity, patience, and craftsmanship while introducing clay preparation, glazing, and kiln-firing processes in a supportive, collaborative environment. Chamber Orchestra Chamber Orchestra focuses on small ensemble performances, allowing students to explore and perform chamber music. Students will be expected to participate in school performances. Concert Band Concert band provides students the opportunity to learn and perform as part of a traditional concert band, playing wind, brass and percussion instruments. Students in this ensemble should be able to play an octave on their instrument and be able to read music. Students will be expected to participate in school performances. Digital Art & Design This is a paid EPA. Unleash your creativity and bring your ideas to life! The Digital Art & Design Club introduces students to the exciting world of digital creativity, where they’ll learn to create eye-catching graphics, illustrations, posters, logos, and digital artwork while developing essential design skills, visual storytelling, and exploring modern AI-powered creative tools used by today’s designers. Dragon Mind Games Try Xiangqi—Chinese Chess or even Mahjong and put your skills to the test! Open to all Years 7–13, beginners and pros welcome. Dress a Girl Around the World (Charity Work) Learn how to make a dress following a pattern as part of the charity and organisation ‘Dress a Girl Around the World’. Once completed, your dress will be sent to a selected orphanage for a child in need. Drone Flying This is a paid EPA. Explore the world of drones with the DJI Mavic series! Learn different drone types, flight basics and safety, real world applications such as drone survey, rescue missions, aerial mapping and for media production. Practice with obstacle courses, take quizzes, and create aerial maps using Maps Made Easy. Level Up your social media by learning simple cinematic storytelling using drone videography, stunning aerial photography and TikTok trends. Highlights include automated flight planning for mapping. A fun, hands-on STEM experience for curious minds! E Car Project (Formula E) E Car Project (Formula E) involves students in designing, building, and racing electric cars, promoting sustainable engineering and teamwork. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Gold Level is the highest level; along with further development of their personal and leadership skills, Gold Level students are required to undertake a four day adventurous journey and a five day residential project. Please be aware that the cost shown is for Year 12, there will be an additional cost in Year 13. Payment is made once at the start of each year. KLASS Community KLASS Community is a student-led EPA that provides an opportunity to help lead the development of belonging and inclusion at Alice Smith. Students will be involved in ongoing development work to improve our sense of community and belonging and will lead on events that celebrate our internationalism and diversity. Learning Outcomes: • Enhance skills in event management, teamwork, leadership, and communication • Develop a culture of empathy and understanding of our diverse community needs and challenges • Foster a sense of civic responsibility, community engagement and belonging for all 14

KLASS Debate Competitive debate takes students into real-world application of a multitude of relevant topics including (but not limited to!) moral issues, poltical theory and the criminal justice system through parliamentary-style debates that have students develop eloquency in speech and the ability to generate high quality discourse and criticism about many of today’s most pressing issues. Learning Outcomes: • Development and refinement of communication and speaking ability • Learn to form effective criticism of a wide variety of ideas and opinions on current issues • Enforce previous learning about wider societal issues through application in high-energy, high-engagement debates

KLASS Economics and Finance Society Business & Enterprise club engages students in activities related to business, enterprise economics, and finance, promoting financial awareness. Examples of what students will cover include a beginners guide to investment, how to set up your own company and how to be successful in business. Learning Outcomes: • Increase understanding of business concepts, economics, and financial literacy • Develop collaborative, analytical and decision-making skills in business and finance • Foster entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, and career readiness 15

KLASS Khronicle The KLASS Khronicles offers students the opportunity to be part of a student-led publication, contributing articles, stories, and artwork. Learning Outcomes: • Develop writing and journalistic skills • Enhance research, editing and storytelling abilities • Foster teamwork, collaboration and communication skills

KLASS Law Society KLASS Law Society is a student-led EPA where students can experience the practice of researching, talking about and upholding the law, through participation in organised mock trials and learning how to research and compile cases that can be used to argue fictitious scenarios in a courtroom environment. Though particularly helpful to students wishing to study law at university, this club will also help students develop skills in research, public speaking and critical thinking that will aid them in any of their future endeavours. Learning Outcomes: • Understand and gain insight into the structure of a traditional civil and criminal court in the UK - how evidence is used to make judgements, how cases are won and how defendants, prosecutors, judges and attorneys interact with each other • Apply public speaking and debate skills to a real courtroom, gain experience in presenting information in front of judges and an audience of juries • Analyze and evaluate validity of evidence and sources through research in preparation for trials, furthering researching skills and to present thorough and substantial arguments 16

KLASS Lions Maths Olympiad Training A problem-solving focused EPA designed for students who enjoy challenging mathematics beyond the standard school curriculum. In this EPA, students will explore Olympiad-style problems that develop logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and perseverance through non-routine questions. Sessions focus on how to think mathematically rather than memorising methods, helping students build confidence when tackling unfamiliar problems. The skills developed are highly transferable to STEM subjects such as engineering, computer science, and mathematics. This EPA is suitable for students across multiple year groups, and particularly beneficial for those interested in participating in recognised mathematics competitions such as the UKMT challenges. Learning Outcomes: • Develop advanced problem-solving strategies by applying logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and structured approaches to unfamiliar mathematical problems • Communicate mathematical thinking clearly and confidently, using precise explanations and justified reasoning rather than trial-and-error or memorised methods • Build resilience and perseverance in learning, demonstrating the ability to engage with challenging problems, reflect on unsuccessful attempts, and refine solutions effectively

KLASS Meds KLASS Meds engages students who are interested in life sciences, health care and the medical field, providing opportunities for learning and practical experiences. Learning Outcomes: • Increase knowledge and understanding of Life Science and medical sciences • Develop teamwork, communication and empathy in healthcare settings • Enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to medical scenarios

Library This is a mandatory EPA for anyone who has a regular, scheduled late pickup. For example, if you are waiting for a sibling who has an EPA. Students should read or complete independent study in this time.

Minecraft Minecraft club allows students to explore and create in the virtual world of Minecraft, fostering creativity, collaboration and problem-solving. Learning Outcomes: • Enhance creativity and imagination through virtual building and design • Foster teamwork, communication, and cooperation within a virtual environment • Develop problem-solving and spatial awareness skills

Modern Music Production

Modern Music Production & Composition Modern Music Production focuses on music composition in various styles, sound design, mixing, post production, and scoring to picture, utilising modern and cutting edge techniques and music making software. Learning Outcomes: • Develop skills in music composition and arrangement • Gain proficiency in utilising music production technology and software • Foster creativity and experimentation in music creation Wider Opportunities: Manage the audio for school events 19

Model United Nations Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. Orchestra Orchestra provides students the opportunity to learn and perform as part of a larger ensemble, playing various orchestral instruments. Palaeontology We are in the golden age of dinosaur and prehistoric discovery. This EPA is for everyone with a passion for prehistory from the Cambrian to the Holocene. From trilobytes to Spinosaurus to Wolly Mammoth and everything in between. Learning Outcomes: • Learn about the constantly evolving field of palaeontology and natural history • Encourage critical thinking and flexible thinking • Nurture curiosity

Percussion Ensemble Percussion Ensemble offers students the opportunity to explore and learn various percussion instruments and music from around the world, and perform as part of a musical ensemble. Students will be expected to participate in school performances. Rock band Rock band allows students to form their own bands, explore rock and pop music genres, and learn how to rehearse and perform popular rock songs. Learning Outcomes: • Develop skills in playing rock instruments and genres • Enhance band dynamics, collaboration, and stage presence • Foster creativity and self-expression through rock music Wider Opportunities: School, local and international concerts and performances

STEM Society A student-led EPA focused on mentoring students through a variety of engaging but brief lectures on scientific research. This year, students will get the opportunity to conduct their own research and produce their very own scientific report under the guidance from senior students with experience in science research projects. This EPA will guide students through the entire process of conducting a research project from choosing a topic, to planning the practical, writing a risk assessment, analysing results and drawing conclusions. This EPA would be particularly helpful for students aiming to pursue a career in science, and they can even showcase their findings in the inter-school science fair if they choose to!

Learning Outcomes:

• To explore passions within science beyond the classroom • To develop important, transferable skills through hands on experience in carrying out a research project • To develop academic writing skills when writing scientific and research based articles

STEP Up to University Maths Aspiring professional mathematicians should attend this ECA to support their applications for maths university degrees. We explore challenging concepts beyond the curriculum, further the practical applications of skills learnt at A Level, and prepare for maths degree interviews and entrance tests. Learning Outcomes: • Increase knowledge and understanding of maths-related topics and deepen maths skills • Develop a repertoire of specific experience and skills to strengthen applications for mathematics degree courses • Prepare for university interviews and tests such as the SAT, ACT, STEP, and Mathematics Admission/Aptitude exams

Students for Sustainability Formerly known as the Eco Club, Students for Sustainability is a student-led EPA dedicated to enabling students to positively impact our school and community. Whatever your interests and whatever your skills, you can contribute to our school’s sustainability. Learning Outcomes: • Increase understanding of environmental issues and their solutions • Develop teamwork and collaboration skills • Encourage active participation in environmental conservation initiatives

Think Like a Scientist Think Like a Scientist is an interactive, student led EPA where students collaborate in teams and are guided to think creatively as they solve problems that led to the greatest scientific discoveries. This Week in History This Week in History engages students in exploring significant, fascinating and at times incredible historical events and people from the past; analysing past successes and failures, we can apply lessons from these to inform our present and future. Learning Outcomes: • Increase knowledge and understanding of historical events and their significance • Develop critical thinking and analysis skills to draw lessons from history • Foster empathy, tolerance, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives

Threads of Imagination Threads of Imagination is a textile crafts club that allows students to dive into the world of sewing, embellishment, crochet, macramé and more. All levels of ability can come together to make beautiful accessories or other fun projects. Students can explore their creativity and develop their technical execution, working on problem-solving while building patience and enhancing hand-eye coordination. Textile crafts stimulate imagination and encourage selfexpression, come and celebrate your individuality. Learning Outcomes:

• Develop proficient skills in various crafting techniques such as macramé, tie-dye, cross-stitch, and knitting

• Foster a sense of creativity and imaginative thinking through the exploration and application of different crafting materials and techniques

UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) aims to raise awareness about refugee issues and support refugee communities. During the ECA students plan, organise and lead a range of activities with a well-being focus for students from a local UNHCR school. Learning Outcomes: • Develop leadership and teaching skills when planning, running and reviewing activities • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students from the UNHCR schools • Develop empathy for and understanding of the challenges refugee children face and the work of the UNHCR to address this 27

Golf Academy The Alice Smith Golf Academy offers a holistic, year-round golf development programme designed to support players of all abilities. The model combines team training, 1:2 ratio coaching sessions, and on-course practice, ensuring students benefit from both technical instruction and real-game experience. The programme also integrates mental preparation, golf-specific fitness, and course management, equipping students with the skills and mindset required to perform under pressure. A full season of competitive opportunities is built into the calendar, providing regular chances for students to test their progress in local and international events. Golf Beginner An opportunity for students to learn the fundementals of golf. Using the Alice Smith golf simulators and short game areas on campus to buyild the basics. These lessons will be taught at a 1:4 coach to student ratio and will TAKE place on a rotation during lunchtime, period 5 and period 6 lessons.
