As in the previous edition, this summer we want to recommend you different routes to the traditional. While most tourist offers that resonate point to the beaches every year, in VIVA MEXICO aim to destinations that are not in the spotlight, but that might be. We insist in openning the range because Mexico has a lot to show. This issue is dedicated to Izamal, Yucatan, a paradise where converge the best of three worlds, to Zacatecas for its ongoing dialogue with the culture and to Kolem Jaá, Tabasco, an ecotourism development that respects its environment. Enjoy.
Tal como ocurrió en la edición anterior, este verano queremos recomendarte rutas diferentes a lo tradicional. Mientras la mayoría de ofertas turísticas que resuenan apuntan hacia las playas de cada año, en VIVA MÉXICO apuntamos hacia destinos que no están en los reflectores, pero que podrían estarlo. a colorful journey into the past with stops in Prehispanic and Colonial world

Is called the city of three cultures, for they is present its pre-hispanic and colonial past, and modern times. Izamal was home of one of the most famous mythical Mayan characters: Zamná or dew from Heaven. Nestled among hills, its streets and houses stained yellow, is a truly magical and mystical paradise. The settlement began with the temple built by the Franciscans on the ruins of a Mayan temple called “Papholchac”. In the early Seventeenth Century the primitive franciscan church became the current Franciscan convent complex of Our Lady of Izamal. Another attraction of Izamal is the remains of prehispanic mounds that practically are settled at the middle of private courtyards and grounds, indicating the grateness that must had the old pre-hispanic settlement. A walk through the streets of the city will take the visitor to meet nice corners and ancient houses. Located 86 kilometers east of Merida, Izamal greets passersby with its tropical weather where the winter temperature does not drop below 18 ° C, making it pleasant to walk its cobbled streets in a carriage and know their places, or go walking along the ancient prehispanic roads called “sacbes”.

Le llaman la ciudad de las tres culturas, pues están presentes su pasado prehispánico y colonial, y la época actual. Izamal fue hogar de uno de los personajes míticos mayas más reconocidos: Zamná o Rocío del Cielo. Asentada entre colinas, con sus calles y casas teñidas de amarillo, es un paraíso mágico y místico. El asentamiento inició con el templo levantado por los franciscanos sobre las ruinas de un adoratorio maya llamado “Papholchac”. A principios del siglo XVII la primitiva iglesia franciscana se convirtió en el actual conjunto conventual de Nuestra Señora de Izamal. Otro de los atractivos de Izamal son los restos de montículos prehispánicos que prácticamente se encuentran en medio de patios particulares y terrenos, lo que indica la grandeza que debió tener el antiguo asentamiento prehispánico. Un paseo por las calles de la ciudad llevará al visitante al encuentro de agradables rincones y añejas casonas. Ubicado a 86 kilómetros al este de Mérida, Izamal recibe a los paseantes con su clima tropical donde la temperatura en invierno no baja de los 18 °C, por lo que resulta agradable recorrer sus calles adoquinadas en calesa y conocer sus rincones, o ir a pie a lo largo de los antiguos caminos prehispánicos llamados “sacbés”.

Kolem Jaá, means “The greatness of Water” in the Chol language. And yes, the water never looked so marvelous and free. Its footprint is seen in the green that permeates the environment. Kolem Jaá is located in the southeastern Mexican middle jungle, among waterfalls, mountains, caves and rivers that arise, become great, hide and play. It is an ecological reserve of 27.5 hectares, habitat for more than 200 bird species (such as herons, hawks, falcons, pigeons, parrots, owls and toucans among others), 500 varieties of tropical plants and 300 different mammals, insects and reptiles. Here you can go horseback riding, hiking, rappel, canopy, canopy or simply camping and observe nature. It is just 95 kilometers from Villahermosa.
