Stoke-On-Trent Classics

The last two concerts in the current Classics series promise to be ‘not to be missed’ evenings. World-acclaimed cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, performing Weinberg’s wonderful concerto with RLPO, and Julian Rachlin conducting Dvorak’s New World Symphony will make for a wonderful season’s finale.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason plays Weinberg

Fri 5 Apr | Victoria Hall

Coleridge-Taylor: Ballade

Weinberg: Cello Concerto

Elgar: Symphony No.1

Sheku Kanneh-Mason, one of the brightest stars of the classical music scene performs the haunting cello concerto by Weinberg. Andrew Manze conducts Elgar’s first symphony which when premiered in 1908 saw the audience stand and cheer. Over a century on and it’s still one of the most stirring experiences in British music!

From The New World

Fri 3 May | Victoria Hall

Mozart: Violin Concerto No.3

Mozart: Symphony No.36 (Linz)

Dvořák: Symphony No.9 (From The New World)

The grand emotions and glorious tunes of his symphony from the new world has always been a huge favourite in Stoke-on-Trent. Mozart wrote his brilliantly witty ‘Linz’ symphony in four days flat… a masterpiece! Conductor and soloist, Julian Rachlin makes his series debut playing Mozart’s exciting third violin concerto composed when he was only 19! 41
