Dear Sorors, This will be our last year serving as the Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Great Lakes Regional Awards Committee. It has been quite a journey as we migrated to an electronic awards evaluation process. We have to say that you stepped up and showed your sisterly support as we implemented the new process. We were thrilled by the response to submit your scrapbooks and to embrace the virtual judging process. For 2022, our goal is for you to continue to show your support and submit awards for all of the categories. We would love to celebrate this final year with having another year of increased participation. As announced, we have made this process more easier and are excited to introduce new regional awards – a) Carrie J. Clark – Pearl Soror of the Year b) Carrie J. Clark Rise Up Undergraduate Soror c) General Member Exemplary Recognition Award d) Great Lakes Rise Up Honey Do and, e) Charlene T. Nelson – Outstanding Undergraduate Website. We look forward to working with each of you as we highlight what Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means in our collective communities when we demonstrate “Service to All Mankind.”

Since the awards evaluation process will be electronic, the scrapbooks will be required to be in pdf format and uploaded to DropBox. The scrapbooks will be available for viewing during the 91st Great Lakes Regional Conference. The criteria for each award are listed in the awards booklet. The awards booklet is divided into three sections: 1) Regional Awards - Graduate, 2) Regional Awards - Undergraduate, and 3) Excellence International Program awards. It is also required that, for each entry (both regional and international awards), the chapters must submit a name of a soror who has volunteered to be a judge. Simply stated, the number of entries and judges for each chapter should be the same. However, chapters may submit more judges than their submissions. Please send an email to us with the appropriate information. The judge information is submitted simultaneously with the awards entries on the online Awards Submission Form. Judges will evaluate the submissions from other chapters and will not evaluate their chapter size entries. The GLRA Chairman should be notified of any changes at least one week before the conference. We encourage you to read this booklet and look for future emails from the committee with important information and due dates. Please email the Great Lakes Regional Awards Committee at glregionalawards@gmail.com if you have any questions. However, we have added a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section to address some of the common questions that we received in the past. We both look forward to your participation in the 91st Great Lakes Regional Conference.
