The Leadership Summit was a unique opportunity for AIA volunteer leaders, chapter executives, and chapter staff to come together, exchange ideas, and discuss the future of the profession. This year’s theme, "Architecture’s Generations at Work," aimed to build bridges to create a better world for all. The highlight of the Leadership Summit was the lobby day, where over 400 architects met with legislators and their staff to advocate for the Democracy in Design Act and the Resilient AMERICA Act.
The Democracy in Design Act (S.366) aims to ensure that communities across the country have a voice in the design of federal buildings that are consistent with their preferences, culture, topographies, and design traditions. The bill recognizes that the built environment significantly impacts people's lives, and therefore, it is essential to involve communities in the design process.

The Resilient AMERICA Act proposes significant changes to the federal government’s ability to prepare communities for future natural disasters by increasing funding for pre-disaster mitigation. This legislation seeks to significantly change the federal government’s ability to prepare communities for future natural disasters. The bill proposes to increase federal funding for pre-disaster mitigation through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program.
Attending the AIA National Leadership Summit provided AIA Nevada leaders with an opportunity to learn, connect, and advocate for issues that matter most to the architecture profession. Through their participation in the lobby day, our leaders demonstrated their commitment to the profession and the communities they serve.
