AGGIE GREEKS

Howdy Advisors!

This has been a jam packed semester so far and there is so much on the horizon. The community has been working tirelessly to make an impact which we highlight in this month’s newsletter, along with a recap of September’s key programs.

On September 16 we hosted our annual Greek Assembly. This was an opportunity for all councils to share important information and updates about council goals for the academic year. The Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) office also to shared key updates to kick the year off right. Attendees also engaged panelist featuring their council presidents and Dr Bill Kibler, the new Vice President for Student Affairs Immediately following the Assembly students were invited to join staff in Aggie Park for to enjoy music, Kona Ice, and some free swag!

The community also participated in National Hazing Prevention Week September 22-26 The week’s activities were hosted by the Office of Student Community Standards all over campus The week started with a Pack the Plaza event where different offices across campus, such as FSL, passed our resources to students passing by Other events included: a keynote from a mother who lost her child to hazing, a breakfast for advisors, a student leader luncheon, and giving away donuts in the MSC.

September also welcomed returning and new chapter leadership at the our first Joint Council meeting of the semester. This meeting was filled with great conversation and connection across all councils. Students explored their personal leadership styles through the True Colors leadership inventory. This exercised helped them identify how their leadership style could best support the many personalities they lead within their chapters.

IONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL (NPHC)

NPHC has been busy this semester with NPHC Week, as well as individual chapters hosting their own week of programs this semester These events are a great way to get plugged in and build community across campus Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc hosted a powder puff game while Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc hosted a breast cancer awareness seminar For upcoming events, follow NPHC on Instagram at @tamunphc

INTERFRATERNITY COUNCIL (IFC)

IFC finished up recruitment on September, 13 . For the first time, IFC recruitment had a new 3 week structure There were 686 men registered and extended 531 bids! Be sure to keep an eye out for IFC’s upcoming events on their Instagram at @tamuifc

MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL (MGC)

COLLEGIATE PANHELLENIC COUNCIL (CPC)

The CPC community hosted their annual Lead Her conference on September 23rd, featuring social media influencer Jenna Palek Jenna shared her experience taking on leadership within her chapter and answered many questions women in the audience had

Next, CPC will be host their annual Trick or Treat on Greek Street on Thursday, October 30 from 5:30pm-7:30pm This event brings chapters from all four councils together to engage with the local community to host a safe trick-o-treat experience There will be an abundance of candy, yard games for the public to take advantage of Costumes are encouraged! th

ADVISOR SPOTLIGHT: ARNULFO GONZALEZ

Arnulfo graduated from Texas A&M in 2008 with a Bachelors in Poultry Science, and a Masters of Higher Education Student Affairs in 2020 He currently serves as a College Access Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in the College Station area. Advising student organizations has been

one of the most rewarding parts of his career. He enjoys offering new perspectives to student leaders and helping them think about how their decisions shape the growth of their organizations Having advised the same organization at a different institution, he’s seen how campus culture and institutional support can play a huge role in helping students and their organizations thrive.

As a proud member of Omega Delta Phi, he also values the opportunity to serve as a bridge between the brotherhood and the institution. Living out the fraternity motto “It grows as it goes,” he believes it is important to adapt with the times while keeping members connected, informed, and prepared in the ever-changing world of higher education When he’s not working, you’ll find Arnulfo out fishing, chasing after his two dachshunds, or enjoying online gaming

RAISING THE BAR: SUPPORTING GREEKS IN THE CLASSROOM

Our October Advisor workshop was led by Mike Dvoracek, the Assistant Director of the Academic Success Center here at Texas A&M University. During this workshop Mike shared insight that he has as a professional when it comes to supporting students through periods of high academic stress Click on the link below to see the full presentation

More About our Presenter: Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Parks from Texas A&M and his Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He served in the Army for 28 years, retiring in 2016. Since then, he worked as an Academic Coach at Texas A&M for six years and as Program Coordinator in the College of Arts & Sciences at A&M.
