WELCOME What an evening! It was wonderful to come together once again to celebrate the outstanding achievements and hard work that everyone has put into enhancing the aesthetic specialty in 2018! Many congratulations must go to the Winners, however it’s also very important to recognise all our finalists; we received an extremely high standard of entries across all categories. Well done to you all! Congratulations to Sharon Bennett in particular, for winning The Schuco Aesthetics Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Aesthetics, a lady who has done so much for the specialty. Huge thanks must go to our judging panel, who take great care in assessing all entries carefully, accurately and considerately, ensuring the impartiality and integrity of the Aesthetics Awards continues. We are also grateful to everyone who voted – it’s fantastic to see everyone in the specialty supporting each other and recognising the amazing products and services available today. Finally, thank you to our sponsors for their continued support and participation. From the comments we’ve received, it seems that you all agree that Russell Kane and voiceover Jon Briggs were fantastic hosts and our live band did an amazing job of keeping everyone dancing into the early hours! CHARIT Y PARTNER Our chosen charity for the Aesthetics Awards 2018 was the British Red Cross. In particular, we asked guests for donations towards relief for the 18 million people living in Yemen who are living in extreme hunger, without access to nutritious food and clean water. According to the British Red Cross, disease and conflict are killing an estimated 75 people every day, while more than 80% of the population urgently need emergency aid. The organisation works with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Yemen Red Crescent. Together they provide food, clean water, medical help and essential household items. In 2017 alone, the Red Cross helped the ICRC and the Red Crescent reach more than 800,000 people with basic aid.

Thanks to your donations, £2,400 was raised for this extremely worthy charity, which will go towards providing food and supplies such as blankets, water containers and soap. If you would still like to support the British Red Cross contact Louisa on lmclellan@redcross.org.uk or call 020 7877 7602.

THE EVENING

It was a spectacular night of glitz and glamour at the prestigious Aesthetics Awards 2018. Professionals from across the specialty gathered at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in central London to celebrate another successful year with more than 800 attendees. Guests had their picture taken at the Aesthetics Awards press board, caught up with friends and colleagues, and enjoyed drinks and live music from singer songwriter Alice MC at the networking event, before moving to the beautiful ballroom for a delicious three-course dinner. Amanda Cameron, the Editor of the Aesthetics journal and Aesthetics Awards judge welcomed guests to the ceremony, thanking the sponsors, judges and voters for their support. She also introduced this year’s comedian and host, Russell Kane, compère Jon Briggs, the original voice of Apple’s iPhone assistant Siri, and the chosen charity of the year, the British Red Cross. Guests then enjoyed a hilarious comedy set by Russell Kane featuring bespoke aestheticrelated jokes that kept everyone entertained. Dianne Burkhill, marketing manager at Syneron Candela UK Ltd, said of Kane’s performance, “The comedian was great, I think it’s important to really jolly the crowd along – he was excellent.” The Commended and Highly Commended finalists were then applauded for their achievements, before Winners in the 26 prestigious categories were welcomed to the stage to collect their unique ‘A’ trophies and take their winners’ photographs. The first Winner of the night was the NeoStrata Skin Active Tri Therapy Lifting Serum, which was awarded the accolade for Skin Product or Range of the Year. Other product winners included Teosyal RHA, PicoWay and SkinPen Precision, which was awarded The Barry Knapp Award for Product Innovation of the Year, supported by Medical Aesthetic Group. The clinic categories were recognised for commitment to excellence in customer service, patient care, safety and evidence of good feedback from patients. Aesthetic companies were also awarded for their achievements, as were training providers and support partners. Agostina Murgia of Bottled Science, the UK distributor of Skinade, was presented with The Healthxchange Group Award for Sales Representative of the Year. She said, “I’m shaking and so overwhelmed! It’s the most prestigious and rewarding awards ceremony so it means a lot. I really have to thank everyone who voted for me.” A first in Aesthetics Awards history saw the recognition of two winners for The PHI Clinic Award for Professional Initiative of the Year. This important category appreciates initiatives that have demonstrated evidence of activity designed to benefit the industry as a whole. Congratulations went to the Black Skin Directory and Visual Loss Management Guidance in collaboration with Dalvi Humzah Aesthetic Complications Management for their work. Finally, the highly anticipated practitioner categories closed the ceremony. The Teoxane Award for Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner of the Year went to Jane

Laferla and Dr Simon Ravichandran took home The ABC Lasers Award for Medical Aesthetic Practitioner of the Year. He said, “I am overwhelmed – it’s still not sinking in as this was totally unexpected and I think every finalist in this category deserved to win.” Finally, to conclude the remarkable ceremony, The Schuco Aesthetics Award for Outstanding Achievement in Medical Aesthetics was presented to a practitioner who has demonstrated commitment and passion for regulation, industry growth and patient safety. Nurse prescriber and chair of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) Sharon Bennett received the award, chosen by the Aesthetics team. Bennett said, “It’s just amazing! It is a great recognition of all that I have done, particularly with the BACN and the work that we are doing to try and regulate the industry.” Following the awards presentation ceremony, guests moved out of the ballroom to continue networking and dance the night away to a live band and DJ. Iain Ashby, marketing consultant at John Bannon Pharmacy, sponsor of two awards, said of his evening, “My highlight tonight has been the networking, it’s very important, especially as we are new to the UK. Meeting old friends and making new friends has been great – the networking is very important.” Sharon Allen, business development executive from category sponsor Enhance Insurance, summed up the night, “I really enjoyed the ceremony tonight and how well it was organised. The comedian Russell Kane was absolutely fantastic, and the whole evening was so professional. We come back to the Aesthetics Awards every year because of the whole ethos that it has – it is what this specialty needs.”
