2022 MEDICARE COSTS

When the Medicare and You 2022 was published in October, Medicare was not able to put in the 2022 deductibles and copays, as they had not been approved by Congress at the time of publishing. They have since been released and are as follows: •

Medicare Part A Hospital Deductible - $1,556 – a $72 increase from 2021

Medicare Part A Skilled Nursing Facility Copay for Days 21-100 $194.50 per day - $9 per day increase from 2021

Medicare Part B Deductible - $233 – a $30 increase from 2021

Remember, if you have a Medicare Supplemental plan, as well as Medicare, many, if not all, of these deductibles and copays will be paid by your Medicare Supplement plan. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, your copay and deductibles are set by your plan and maybe different than those shown here.

Thank You, Resource Center Staff and Volunteers for all your hard work during the 2021 Open Enrollment Period. Even during the current environment, we were able to help 1,013 individuals explore their options and change the Medicare D plan for 419 of those, saving them over $515,000 for 2022.

TAX TIME

The following programs can help you get a refund from the State of Montana for property taxes, or reduce your property taxes before they are collected. 24

Medicare Part B Premium – For most Medicare beneficiaries, it will be $170.10 – an increase of $21.60 from 2021. An estimated 2 million Medicare beneficiaries (about 3.5%) will pay less than the full Part B standard monthly premium amount in 2022, due to the statutory hold harmless provision, which limits certain beneficiaries’ increase in their Part B premium to be no greater than the increase in their Social Security benefits. Social Security can use all of the 2022 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) to bring your Medicare premium to the new amount, but they cannot reduce your current benefit to pay the entire premium. If your annual income was greater than $91,000 single/$182,000 couple in 2020 you will face additional costs for Medicare Part B and Medicare Part D premiums in 2022. You will receive a letter from Social Security if you will be expected to pay the increase. If you have questions call the Resource Center at 406-259-5212 for more information.
