KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER ABOUT ENGAGMENT
• Establish an open-door policy and ensure that you follow through on that commitment. If a team member
comes to you for help, you should make yourself available to talk either immediately or soon thereafter.
• Always listen to your employees and their concerns, even in times when you disagree. • As a leader, it is not your responsibility to solve every opportunity by yourself. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS
ENGAGEMENT IS YEAR-ROUND
• Communicating about engagement should be performed year-round. • As a leader, you should talk about how all activities on your team are linked to Engagement. o For instance, if you are working on streamlining processes you should highlight that this work is being done as a direct result of the feedback you received on the engagement survey.

CREATE A SAFE PLACE FOR FEEDBACK
• Engagement scores can only begin to increase if team members feel comfortable coming to their leader with feedback. Team members will likely disengage if a leader is quick to cut their team members off when talking or dismisses ideas without consideration. Creating a safe place for feedback doesn’t mean that you agree with the feedback, but it does mean that you listen to the feedback.
KNOW WHEN TO SEEK HELP
• It is your obligation as a leader at Adtalem to report any feedback you receive that an employee is being harassed, discriminated against, or is being put in an unsafe situation. If you are unsure whether to report the scenario, it is best to speak to someone in Coaching Resource Center for guidance regarding the situation. • The CRC can be reached at CRC@Adtalem.com.
CELEBRATE SUCCESSES
• As increasing engagement scores takes time and effort it is important to remember to celebrate any success along the way, no matter how small. When your team completes an initiative, be sure to speak about it at the next team meeting, express the impact (or potential impact) of the initiative, give kudos to the team members involved, and link the effort back to the Engagement Survey. This communication costs nothing but will lift spirits and keep Engagement top of mind.
