RESPECT & RECOGNITION
RECOGNIZE LEVEL OF EFFORT
• Recognize team members that are going above and beyond in team meetings. • Be sure to recognize extra effort in performance reviews. At a minimum, this recognition could be incorporated in the text of the performance review. Ideally you will be able to recognize the effort in the monetary component of the review as well.
PERSONALIZE RECOGNITION
• Send personal thank you notes for high achievers in your group. • Create recognition cards that can be easily filled out and used in a variety of situations. These cards typically have boxes you can check for each of the actions that the employee has done to make an impact.
The cards also have an open area at the bottom to personalize the message. • Spend 5-10 minutes at each leadership meeting to work on recognizing talent (i.e., filling out recognition cards or talking about achievements).
CREATE A CULTURE OF CARE

• Go out of your way to ask your team how things are going from a work and personal perspective. • Support your team members as much as possible when they are experiencing difficult times. • Encourage your team members to seek help through Ginger, Adtalem’s mental health and wellness mobile application, as needed. • Always listen to your employees and their concerns, even in times when you disagree.
BE A ROLE MODEL
• You represent what a successful person must to do be promoted to your team. • Be mindful of how you are presenting yourself with both verbal and non-verbal behaviors. • Your team is learning how to lead by watching WHAT you do and HOW you do it. • Check in with your team see if there are things that you are not doing which would be helpful.
PROMOTE WORK LIFE BALANCE
• Set guidelines for when it is expected and acceptable to communicate with each other after work. • Take PTO and encourage your team to take PTO as well. • Speak about the activities you are doing outside of work to encourage others to incorporate more work/life balance in their daily lives.
