Baseball Opening Day Party - April 8 “Let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don't win it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game!” What better way to start Opening Day of Baseball than with a tailgate party! Our bistro will be transformed into the ballpark with decorations, music, food, and drinks. Come get your hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, pretzels, and beer before the Detroit Tigers take the field.
We will commemorate this day with a documentary on Juneteenth’s history and a celebration of freedom. Juneteenth commemorates the day when emancipation reached enslaved people in the deepest parts of the South. It wasn't until June 19, 1865, two months after the Civil War ended and more than two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, that Union Gen. Gordon Granger and more than a thousand U.S. troops shared the news of freedom with the 250,000 enslaved people in the state. The anniversary of that day is celebrated as one of the bestregarded African American holidays in this country, ranking next only to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
