The Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau (SPC) was chartered on the 16th June 2009.
The SPC was formed as a result of two existing clubs in the Bahamas District combining their efforts.
Sophia Walker, President of the Downtown Pilot Club of Nassau (2008-2009) and Bianca Willie, President of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Nassau (2008-2009) spearheaded the efforts to bring the clubs together to form a stronger and more effective united club. They both saw the positive benefit and potential to join the clubs together in order to build strength and create partnerships which would allow the new club to better serve the community.
In the presence of the Pilot International President Deborah Archer (2008-2009), a member of the Pilot Club of Lucaya, the SPC was chartered with 34 members. The installing officer was Virginia Hall-Campbell, Governor, Bahamas District (2008-2009) and she was accompanied by Jethlyn Burrows, Governor Elect, Bahamas District (2008-2009).
Giovanna Rahming-Charles was installed as the Charter President of the Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau. The vision of the SPC is for continued strength and renewed commitment with a spirit of friendship and service. The club in May 2019 celebrated 10 years of friendship and service with a Past Presidents Dinner.
The Sunshine Pilot Club is made up of professional business women from all parts of the community. Ranging from working fulltime to retired persons of diverse fields such as education, banking, religion, health services and social work.
The club meets monthly for dinner and to conduct the business of the club. After the business meeting is concluded, members also enjoy special activities during the program meeting. Program meetings have ranged from speakers on topics of brainrelated disorders, motivational talks and maintaining good health. When the club goes out to provide service to the community we assist the elderly, teenagers at risk and educate primary school students on brain safety.
We also partner with local charities such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army in their fundraising activities.
Good evening, Pilots & Guests!
Welcome to the fifteen-anniversary celebration of The Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau!
I would like to extend my congratulations to the Club, which has provided fifteen years of service to the community. This work included Seahorse Institute, Anatol Rodgers High School, Claridge Primary School, Thelma Gibson Primary School and many, many others
Congratulations to the active charter members - Deborah Barry, Beverley Bethel, Kayla Burrows-Denis, Giovanna Charles, Constance Delancy, Carol Edwards, Andrea Fountain, Denise Hepburn, Ethelyn Morley, Wachenella Mortimer, Beverley Nairn, Laverne Nixon, Sheila McPhee, Sophia Walker and Dellareese Wilson. The club is here today because of the contribution of these members. Ladies, continue to be the beacon to the club, as you were fifteen years ago!
The payment for service is not money It is not gifts, nor is it thanks. Most people in service do what they do, because of the feeling they get when helping others. It is for this reason that the work of the club can continue for fifteen years!
President Tyrell, to you and your members, I am so proud of you all! Continue to carry on the traditions of your founding members and of Pilot International! There are so many people in this community in need of your service. The job is yours, and you are making a difference!
Start working on your next fifteen years!
“All Aboard! Leaving No Pilot Behind.”
Nickola “Nicki” Dawkins President, Pilot International

Realizing that whatever a Pilot touches should be ennobled by that touch, we, as business leaders, are resolved to make our business standards high, to do our work in every place in which we are employed as if it were our life work, never omitting an opportunity of doing a kindness or making a friend; to put into our business dealings a note of sympathy for humanity; to follow truth; to do our best from dawn till night; and so to live in the discharge of our duty, so to take care of every responsibility that comes before us that we shall radiate that which is unselfish, beautiful and true; and when we shall have finished with our tasks we shall have given an upward impetus to human ideals and achievements.
With this resolution before us then, we believe it is our duty as Pilots:
~To consider our work worthy and ourselves worthy of our work, exemplifying in it at all times the Pilot motto, “True Course Ever.”
~To work each day at that which is before us seriously, vigorously, calmly, cheerily; to improve ourselves in every possible way; to increase our efficiency; to enlarge our visions.
~To be ambitious to succeed, but always to be ethical, desiring nothing that is not achieved by justice, honesty and fairness.
~To live in the presence of the great eternal laws, which will keep us patient when the task is irksome and calm and unspoiled when we seem to succeed.
~To acquire self-control and self-reliance; to be ready to give as well as take; to develop in ourselves an appreciation of the finer things of life; to be honest and generous; to help, not to hinder; to be slow of criticism and quick with praise.
~To cherish our visions and our ideals; to cherish the music that stirs our hearts, the beauty that forms in our minds, knowing that on these things we can build our world, for visions and dreams are the seedlings of reality.
~To be loyal to Pilot in thought, word and deed.
~To see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, think no evil of a Pilot, but to be no more loyal to a Pilot in this respect than we are to every other person, for the genius of Pilot is in its kindness, and justice is the soul and substance of life.
Giovanna Rahming Charles served as the first President of the Sunshine Pilot Club and therefore embraced the unique challenge of forging unity between the two merged clubs. She originally joined the Luncheon Pilot Club many years before and where she served in many roles.
A product of St. Andrew’s School she holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration from University of Virginia Darden Business School. She is a property manager at the National Insurance Board, a licensed Real Estate Agent, a Certified Pilates Instructor, and A Resident Teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance. Giovanna is a proud and avid supporter of all things Bahamian, empowerment women, nurturing of youth, and the many community outreach programs ran by the Sunshine Pilot Club.
As the second President of the Sunshine Pilot Club from 2010-2011, Dellareese focused on the theme "Believe," which guided her leadership and empowered club members. She was committed to making a positive impact in the community alongside dedicated individuals in the Pilot organization.
Her presidency was marked by the project "REACH," aimed at supporting children with autism, highlighting an important cause in our community. A highlight of her presidency was the successful launch of the Sunshine Pilot Club's major fundraiser, "The Snow Ball " The event was a resounding success, with proceeds benefiting "REACH." The fundraiser exemplified the Club’s commitment to community service, providing vital resources to an important cause, while also fostering camaraderie and support among members and the wider community. Following a stroke in 2007, she became an advocate for brain health. She expresses gratitude to her sponsor Delicia Forbes and mentor Sophronia Cason. Dellareese’s legacy emphasizes compassion, dedication, and a commitment to serving others. She remains a Pilot member because Pilot International values guide her personal and professional endeavors, and she is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a prestigious organization. She is also grateful for the support that she received from her Pilot sisters who are committed to continued friendship and service. Dellareese extends a heartfelt “thank you ” to her husband Stanley Wilson, Mother, Faith Roxbury, two sons Travis and Ethan Edgecombe who continue to support her through every initiative.
Andrea has been a Pilot Club member for 17 years and is the third president of the Sunshine Pilot Club where she was installed in 2011. Her theme during her presidency was “Friendship and Service” Her tenure reflected a commitment to community upliftment and alignment with Pilot International’s mission to promote brain health.
Her signature project focused on supporting the Coastline Community Care Nursing Home (CCCNH). One of the highlights of her presidency was hosting the 2nd Snowball, the club’s major fundraiser. Also, she cherished the experience of visiting the Lazaretto “All Saints Camp”. During the visit to the camp, food was delivered, toys, and household essentials. Through those initiatives and many others, she remains passionate about fostering meaningful connections and creating a lasting impact in the community. She is married to Leroy Fountain, and they are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Adrian, Brendan and RoyAnne.
Laverne was the fourth president of the Sunshine Pilot Club during the 2012-2013 term after serving as Treasurer for two years and holding the positions of Vice President and President-elect under Andrea Fountain. Before this, she was the Treasurer for the Luncheon Club of Nassau until it merged with the Downtown Club to form the Sunshine Pilot Club. Pg- 9Pg- 9
The Club’s theme was “Making a Difference Through Friendship and Service,” and they supported various organizations, including the Salvation Army, The All Saints Camp, Demetrius Home for the Aged, The Williemae Pratt School for Girls, Mossef House, brain minders presentations in several schools, participating in reading programs at several school(Special Education Units) and several visits to Sandilands Mental and Geriatrics Units etc.A highlight of her presidency was providing new equipment for the special needs department at Palmdale Primary School My sponsor, Kayla Burrows-Denis, has supported me since I was named Pilot Girl of the Year in 1977. She continues to be a pilot club member because her goal is to give back and develop meaningful friendships as she renders service to mankind.
Wachenella was introduced to Pilot International in 1999 by her friend Sandra Wilson. Before joining the Sunshine Pilot Club, she was part of the Nassau Pilot Club and the Luncheon Pilot Club (later renamed the Sunshine Pilot Club) She enjoyed serving through initiatives like 'Pick Me Up' and 'Brain Minders
She was the president of the Sunshine Pilot Club in 2013-2014 and the theme for Wachenella’s presidency was "United through Friendship and Service," highlighting the core values of Pilot International.
A key moment during her term was the 4th Annual Snow Ball on January 11, 2014, at the Grand Ballroom in Wyndham Crystal Palace. It was held under the patronage of Deborah Archer, Past International President (2008-2009). Also in attendance was Judy Langley, President of Pilot International (2013-2014). Part proceeds from the event was presented to Gevon Nairn. Gevon was a victim of a violent crime. Her commitment to the Pilot International brand over the years is because she likes to serve. She particularly like to see the joy on the faces of the recipients of the ‘Pick Me Up’ treats also to see the primary school children participating in the ‘Brain Minders’ presentations with much enthusiasm.
Deborah was the president of the Sunshine Pilot Club in 2014-2016 and her theme was “Pilot – The Spirit of Service”. The theme inspired members to cultivate a spirit of service, opening their hearts and minds to meet the needs of others. She was sponsored by Jill Saunders.
Her most significant memory has been assisting with The Pick Me Up Division (PMU) initiatives for caregivers. She reflects on how a PMU can be an eye-opener, recognizing that one may not fully understand the challenges others face by outward appearances alone.
Deborah was also a member of the Luncheon Pilot Club of Nassau which she joined on 17th February 2004. Her signature project was “Drella’s Dream” which emphasized creating an environment at Sandilands that would meet the emotional and social needs of clients by appealing to their sense. She continues to be a member of the Pilot Club because Pilots work together with sincerity and integrity, fostering friendship and service as they strive to meet the challenges and needs of their communities.
Inga served as the president of the Sunshine Pilot club in 2016-2017 under the theme "Service Above Self".
Inga’s Signature project was helping at the WillaMae Pratt School for Girls. She also donated to Sandilands Rehabilitation Center where she gave a scholarship to a nurse to finish her studies. Her most memorable moment was giving gifts to the caregivers. She recalls just watching the caregivers smile brought joy to her.
Inga’s sponsor is Laverne Nixon, and she is committed to Pilot Club because she loves serving and giving back. She lives by Muhammad Ali - “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”
Ms. Jasmin Strachan is an active member of the Sunshine Pilot Club in Nassau, Bahamas. She joined the organization in 2000 and served as President Elect for the Downtown Pilot Club of Nassau She later served as President 2002-2003 under the theme "Celebrating our Cultures".
A most memorable year as we celebrated our July 10th Independence holiday. She had the honor to proudly display our junkanoo costume at her first International Convention in Toronto Canada. In 2009, the Downtown Pilot Club and Luncheon Pilot Club of Nassau merged to form the Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau. Jasmin served as the 8th President of the Sunshine Pilot Club from 2017-2018, focusing on the Bahamas Down Syndrome and Friends Centre. She also aimed to mentor and develop the youth, believing in early childhood care. Jasmin has served as Project Coordinator under International President Nickola Dawkins and District Treasurer under Past Governor Terez Curry.
Jasmin’s most significant memory was the chartering of the Aquinas College’s Anchor Club as this would align with her passion to assist with the mentorship and development of the youth of our nation.
Jaychelle was sponsored by Dellareese Wilson. Her most significant memory during her time in the sunshine pilot club was providing meals at the All-Saints Camp. Having the opportunity to serve the most vulnerable yet ostracized members of society was a humbling yet rewarding experience. This was particularly so because the only thing the residents wanted was to be treated with dignity, generosity and kindness. Her signature project was a continuation of the previous president’s project which was to provide computers (or raise funds for the purchase of these devices) for The Bahamas Down Syndrome Center.
Her predecessor, President Jasmin Strachan launched this initiative and during her term was able to raise much awareness surrounding the needs of the Center and its students. It was her profound pleasure to continue her remarkable work. The work the Pilot Club does is very important as it focuses on brain health and safety. Understanding the various factors that can adversely impact our brain health and Pilot Club’s many endeavors to continuously raise awareness and educate the public on them, make her committed to the organization and its success.
Dorian began her Pilot journey on February 16, 2016, joining the Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau. She was privileged and honored to have been sponsored by her friends, Past President Deborah Barry and Pilot Cecile Christie. She held roles as Club Assistant Treasurer and President Elect before becoming the club's 10th President on June 2, 2019.
Her presidency focused on "Impacting Lives Through Service," emphasizing community contributions and recognizing caregivers as "Unsung heroes and heroines” Dorian's signature project improved the library at the Marjorie Davis Institute for Specialized Children. She also helped two families displaced by Hurricane Dorian through a Christmas Initiative. A highlight of her presidency was attending the 2019 Pilot International Convention in Chicago. She contributed to the club's website and designed the club's distinctive tangerine tops. Dorian has since served in various leadership roles within the organization and currently acts as Parliamentarian and Convention Chair She is married to Joseph N Cox Sr and is a proud mother and grandmother, receiving support from her family in her service. She enjoys working and passionately serves with others, loving the sisterhood which keeps her committed to the work of Pilot. Her mantra is ‘If I can help somebody as I pass along then my living will not be in vain’. She just wants to SERVE.
Lesia was honored to serve as the president of The Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau during the challenging year of 2020-21. Her theme was "Embracing Change, Enlarging Our Vision. " She was sponsored by her dear school friend of over 50 years, Jasmin Strachan, whose unwavering support and encouragement meant a great deal to her during her tenure
Her presidency started with a prayer breakfast on July 10th, but as the pandemic grew, the club faced many challenges. The club meetings were moved online, and her installation as president was via Zoom. My signature project focused on providing dental cleanings for children at the Ranfurly Homes for Children. Understanding the importance of dental health, especially for children in need, I was proud to lead this initiative It was a project that aligned with Pilot International’s mission to improve the quality of life for people in our communities. Her presidency experience helped her to learn the importance of adaptability and perseverance while working with dedicated individuals. She continues to be a Pilot club member because she is deeply committed to the work of Pilot International and believes in its mission to empower individuals and improve communities. The values of service, friendship, and leadership resonate with her, and she is inspired by the collective impact that is made when Pilots come together
Service has been a fundamental aspect of Sheila’s life since childhood. Her parents owned a grocery store, which we referred to as a "Petty Shop," where a wide variety of goods were available. As time progressed, they established a neighborhood bar and restaurant that became a gathering place for residents during weekends and special occasions.
This experience marked her initial and genuine commitment to serving others. Service has always been, and continues to be, a vital component of her existence In August 1998, she was introduced to Pilot International by her esteemed friend and mentor, Mrs. Rita Spriggs-Sands, and became a member of the Pilot Club of Nassau. In 1999, she transitioned to the Luncheon Pilot Club as a Charter Member on May 30. She accepted the role of President of the Luncheon Pilot Club in 2000, guided by the theme “Service through Leadership & Growth,” and the journey that followed has been remarkable. She served as president of the Sunshine Pilot Club for two terms. During the 2021-2022 term, the theme was “Serving with an Excellent Spirit,” which continued into the 2022-2023 term. She continues to be a pilot club member because the joy derived from witnessing the unforgettable smiles of those, we serve through our various initiatives reinforces our belief in the value of our work and our worthiness in performing it.
Lina was sponsored by her sister Dorian Cox and was installed on July 17, 2018. She served as president from 2023-2024 with the theme, “Climbing to Higher Ground, Together in Friendship and Service.” The installation took place on June 24, 2024, at The Red Cross Auditorium, conducted by Past Governor Dorian Cox
Her signature project was honoring 15 well deserving medical professionals to a luncheon celebration as her year as President was the 15th year since the Sunshine Pilot Club of Nassau was chartered. The theme for the occasion was a “Salute to Unsung Health Pioneers.” Her most memorable event was the Salute to the Medical Heros & Heroines & the 102nd Pilot International Convention held in Bellevue, Washington. The year 2023 –2024 overall, was a very successful year she recalls. She gives all glory to God and continues to practice her presidency theme to this day by “Climbing to Higher Heights, together in Friendship & Service.
Congratulations to on reaching such a crucial milestone. You’ve earned every bit of the much-awaited recognition. I celebrate you today and wish you well on this new venture.
