Bahamas District Convention Pilot International -Installation Booklet 2025

Page 1

Good evening, Pilots, Co-Pilots, and Guests!

Tonight, we are here to witness the installation of my friend and Pilot Sister, Sheila McPhee, as Governor of the Bahamas District, Pilot International! I must tell you that I am truly pleased.

Sheila’ s family and my family became friends some thirty-five years ago. It is a bond that has stood the test of time and I can tell you that Sheila is “real people” and she will get the job done!

This year, Governor Elect Sheila has chosen as her theme, “Inspired to Create an Impactful Journey through Friendship and Service” . This theme speaks for itself, but be sure our district will have an impactful journey, and much will be accomplished. The Bahamas District serves as a beacon in Pilot International, and many appreciate and see what is being done here! Now, we are set to soar even higher than before, and fly we will.

Sheila, I am so proud of you, and I wish you the very best as you make this major leap in your life. I am ecstatic to call you Governor Sheila! Stay focused on the prize, and you and the Bahamas District will go very far!

“All Aboard! Leaving No Pilot Behind”

Salutations and Greetings Pilots, Co-Pilots and Guests,

Beverly Hager

ECR, President Elect

It is always an honor to be here in the beautiful Bahamas celebrating all you accomplished this year and all you are looking forward to doing in the new year. On our monthly call, Governor Elect Sheila was telling us about some of the wonderful things your clubs and district participated in in the past and she told us of one her favorites, providing not only for the residents, but also the caregiver Matrons of the All Saint’ s Camp. I could see how this helped solidify her vision for the next year of “Inspired to Create an Impactful Journey through Friendship and Service” . It reflects why a lot of us engage and participate with Pilot for the many many years that we do.

In wanting to find a way to further understand how to go about helping create an environment to do this in, the following article highlights came up. I believe these characteristics reflect exactly not only what it means to Craft a Life of Impact, but also the very things your district continues to strive for every year. These characteristics are: 1. Understanding Your Impact Vision, 2. Identifying Core Areas of Influence, 3. Leveraging Your Unique Skillset, 4. Building a PurposeDriven Network, 5. Committing to Lifelong Learning, 6. Practicing Reflection and Mindfulness, 7. Taking Bold Actions, 8. Embracing Resilience in the Face of Challenges, 9. Celebrating Milestones and Impact, 10. Staying Grounded in Your Values (Crafting a Life of Impact: Strategies for Finding Purpose by Miguel Sydney).

I believe these actually represent all of your clubs and your district in your actions each and every year. Other clubs and districts often look to the example you set and often try to emulate them with their own flavor.

Governor Elect Sheila, I am excited to see where you take things over the next year and cannot wait to cheer you on as you continue to Inspire others to Create an Impactful Journey.I believe the Friendship and Service aspect of our organization will continue to drive the lifelong relationships we continue to build I also look forward to maybe sorting my conch salad out a bit!

Best Wishes in the upcoming year and I enthusiastically await to see where you will sail p~4

Good evening, Pilots, Family, and Friends.

I greet you during this special season of the year as we Reflect, Refocus and Recommit to the ideals of what is important to each of us.

Governor Elect

The word of God states that “to whom much is given, much is required” . Fellow Pilots, I entreat each of us to Reflect, Refocus, and Recommit to the ideals of Pilot and its Mission as we together celebrate under the theme: “Inspired to Create an Impactful Journey through Friendship and Service” . As Pilots, we have been called to serve, and in so doing, I want us to have some fun while we do what we do. I don’t want it to be a daunting task, so much so that we lose sight of our purpose and mission.

I am extremely grateful to all of you for your support and words of encouragement as I ascend to this lofty position as GOVERNOR I particularly wish to thank Past Governors Pilot Rita Spriggs and Pilot Ethlyn Morley for their roles in preparing me for this moment.

I am grateful to those Pilots who have elected to take this journey with me I want each of you to know that this opportunity is for each of us to move the Bahamas District forward as we inspire others.

As we members of the DAC move forward, we know that there will be setbacks and false starts, and there will be some who won ’t agree with every decision that is made. However, we will seek to do our best from dawn till night as we discharge our duties for the betterment of the Bahamas District, simply because we consider our work worthy and ourselves worthy of our work.

Thank you, Governor Toni Hudson-Bannister, for your steadfastness and loyalty to the District. May Almighty God continue to order your steps.

Pilots, as we move forward in faith, let us together seek to Do More, Care More, and Be More. p~6

Realizing that whatever a Pilot touches should be ennobled by that touch, we, as business leaders, are resolved to make our business standards high, to do our work in every place in which we are employed as if it were our life work, never omitting an opportunity of doing a kindness or making a friend; to put into our business dealings a note of sympathy for humanity; to follow truth; to do our best from dawn till night; and so to live in the discharge of our duty, so to take care of every responsibility that comes before us that we shall radiate that which is unselfish, beautiful and true; and when we shall have finished with our tasks we shall have given an upward impetus to human ideals and achievements.

With this resolution before us then, we believe it is our duty as Pilots:

To consider our work worthy and ourselves worthy of our work, exemplifying in it at all times the Pilot motto, “True. Course. Ever.”

To work each day at that which is before us seriously, vigorously, calmly, cheerily; to improve ourselves in every possible way; to increase our efficiency; to enlarge our visions

To be ambitious to succeed, but always to be ethical, desiring nothing that is not achieved by justice, honesty and fairness.

To live in the presence of the great eternal laws, which will keep us patient when the task is irksome and calm and unspoiled when we seem to succeed.

To acquire self-control and self-reliance; to be ready to give as well as take; to develop in ourselves an appreciation of the finer things of life; to be honest and generous; to help, not to hinder; to be slow of criticism and quick with praise.

To cherish our visions and our ideals; to cherish the music that stirs our hearts, the beauty that forms in our minds, knowing that on these things we can build our world, for visions and dreams are the seedlings of reality.

To be loyal to Pilot in thought, word and deed.

To see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, think no evil of a Pilot, but to be no more loyal to a Pilot in this respect than we are to every other person, for the genius of Pilot is in its kindness, and justice is the soul and substance of life.

This Code of Ethics of Pilot International was written by Pearl Sparks of Florence, Alabama and was first presented in 1926 at the 5th Annual Convention held in Montgomery, Alabama with 69 Pilots attending
