September's Dental Rescue Day

Dr Adam Hamilton

Dental Rescue Day was a huge success, with a particularly high attendance rate. In all, 34 patients had the opportunity to be assessed and treated by Dr Tracey Gold’s team of OHT 3rd Year Students and volunteer dentists: Dr Lida Sayadelmi, Dr Jonathan Lo, Dr Andrew Chan, Dr Ashlee Bence, Dr Amit Gurbuxani, Dr Vuk Paripovic, Dr Hyun Mun and Dr Emrik Graff.

Specialist Prosthodontist

It was a combined team effort with TAFE DCA students, who volunteered as chairside assistants, and TAFE Supervisor, Valerie, as well as Curtin OHT Supervisors, Tracey L and Sylvia, OHT Clinic DA Tash, and Curtin Admin Assistant, Makayla. Many patients had complex dental issues and were in need of urgent dental care. Thank you to all for your compassion and working so tirelessly to assist the vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community. Special thanks go to ADHF’s Andrea Paterson, for her wonderful, tireless, efficient organisation. Without you, these days could never happen. Some of the referring organisations were: Uniting WA, Centrecare, The Salvation Army, MercyCare , St Barts, Street Doctor and Homeless Healthcare.

Volunteer Profile Jane Bartley – Dental Assistant For dental assistant Jane Bartley, volunteering at Homeless Connect Rockingham recently was an opportunity to give back to the community. “I volunteered with other organisations prior to becoming a mum,” Jane says. “I jumped at the chance to get back out there, doing the work.” Jane says she loved the fast pace with the highly skilled dental team. “Twenty-one patients in five hours with two chairs, in a caravan run on a generator – what an achievement!” To other dental assistants considering volunteering, Jane says there is excellent leadership, support and organisation at every level. “It is a very inclusive environment,” she says. “You will be out of your comfort zone in a good way. You will meet wonderful people and have fun.”
