Young Dentists' Conference

This year’s New Practitioner Program is going out with a bang on Saturday November 13, with the annual, all-day, and much-anticipated Young Dentists’ Conference, for dentists who’ve graduated within the last five years.

A fitting and celebratory end to 2021’s New Practitioner Program, this year’s conference will take place at ADA House. Organiser Dr Amanda Phoon Nguyen says the free, all-day conference will cover things a young dentist needs to know – as well as an opportunity to network and socialise.

“We have a line-up of amazing speakers including specialists and general dentists,” Amanda says. “There will be some very exciting topics, including biomimetic dentistry and modern rubber dam isolation. We are also including topics that attendees asked for last year, so I will be doing an update on medications and Leon Smith will be talking about things that can go wrong after hours and how to prevent them.” Sponsored by DPLA, the full-day event will include clinical and practical advice, as well as risk management. “This is very important, because as the studies show, dentists get one AHPRA notification every 10 years on average, so you should know what do to just in case.” As always, the Young Dentists’ Conference is a social event, offering a chance to catch up with friends and colleagues. There’s also the chance to pick up some great prizes including an Apple Watch from DPL, and vouchers from WA Dental CPD.

“Some exciting changes this year is that we have really listened to what attendees want, so we are starting later, having breaks in-between lectures, and we are getting in tacos for lunch,” she says. “We are also organising food trucks to come to ADA House so we can finish the day off with a bang. “It’s something I think many young dentists around Australia wish they could go to,” she adds. “We are quite lucky to be able to hold an event like this in WA, in a friendly, safe environment.” Back by popular demand, attendees will have the opportunity to ask a specialist panel questions at the end of day. “I would encourage anyone who wants to attend to email me questions prior that we can ask the panel.” Questions can be emailed to amandap@adawa.com.au and can be asked anonymously. Question submissions will also enter a prize draw, so please ask away!
