How would you define a luxury life?

The Webster’s New World dictionary defines luxury as ‘the unusual intellectual or emotional pleasure or comfort derived from a specific thing, something producing pleasure or comfort, and of course, the use and enjoyment of the best and the most costly things that offer the most physical comfort and satisfaction’.

Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines it as ‘a condition of abundance or great ease and comfort: sumptuous environment lived in luxury; something adding to pleasure or comfort but not absolutely necessary.’

The above definitions notwithstanding, there is a twist to the definition of the word ‘luxury’. The new definition focuses on easily attainable aspects of luxury namely Quality and Comfort. So, it is not strange to find people defining a luxury lifestyle based on these parameters. Manufacturers of high end goods have noticed the new definition of luxury and have latched on to the trend by producing goods that provide quality and comfort at the same time.

A luxury lifestyle has been defined differently by people, using the following:

Production on a Mass Scale Big name luxury brands are coming out with affordable versions of their expensive items. This makes it affordable for more people. Such luxury items include some handbags, shoes and accessories. Even car manufacturers are not left out. Mercedes Benz has, over time, come out with less expensive versions of their cars. So, one sees that even though the brands are big names, people can still enjoy the better-quality products. Some people have pointed out though that if luxury is mass, it should no longer be considered a luxury. Louis Vuitton, for example, is regarded as a middle-class brand in some parts of Asia.

As a State of Mind For some people, luxury is a state of the mind. They argue that a luxury lifestyle goes beyond the ownership of luxury goods. It goes hand in hand with appreciation, attention and enjoyment. A lifestyle of luxury would involve how people experienced the th ings around them and the things they do every day to make their lives more luxurious.

Desire for Better Quality People are going back to buy quality and with quality comes comfort. This comfort lies in the material used which in turn affects the feel, the experience and the knowledge that the quality bought last longer and retains its value. Depending on the type of product, sometimes the value appreciates with time.
