Marketing Communications Manager FOLLOW US For the Club’s Hours of Operation
Dear Fellow Members,
As we step into the vibrant months of May and June, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members who participated in our Annual General Meeting (AGM) last month. Your active involvement and valuable contributions are the cornerstone of our Club's success, and I am honored to be part of such a dedicated and passionate community.
With the conclusion of the AGM, we are ushering in a new Committee term filled with fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a shared commitment to our Club's direction. I extend my warmest congratulations to the newly elected Board and selected Committee Members and express my confidence in their ability to steer our Club towards greater heights of excellence.
At the heart of our Club's ethos is the recognition that we are a continually evolving organization. We embrace change, adapt to new challenges, and seize opportunities for growth and improvement. This spirit of resilience and adaptability has been evident in our Club's initiatives, events, and Member engagement throughout the past year, and I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
Thanks to the concerted efforts of our Committees working closely with Management, we have an exciting lineup of plans for the upcoming months. Get ready for a wave of new restaurant a la carte menus that promise delightful culinary experiences, and where possible no menu price increases. But it doesn't stop at the menus; we're delving deeper into food concepts across different areas of the club, ensuring that value is a key focus. As you may have noticed, certain areas of the club
are undergoing refurbishment, setting the stage for an exceptional rest of the year ahead.
Additionally, as many of us plan our travels for this summer, do make use of the ever-growing list of Reciprocal Clubs that offer our Members, exclusive benefits and opportunities for cultural exchange. Explore these connections to expand your network, experience new cultures, and create lasting memories while exploring new destinations, embarking on exciting adventures, and reconnecting with loved ones.
Whether you're planning a relaxing beach getaway, a cultural exploration, or simply enjoying the beauty of Taiwan, I wish you safe travels and unforgettable experiences. Let this summer be a time of relaxation, and rejuvenation.
In closing, I invite each and every one of you to make the most of your membership at the American Club Taipei. Engage in our diverse range of activities, connect with fellow Members, and seize the opportunities that come your way. Together, we will continue to build a vibrant and thriving community that reflects the spirit of friendship, inclusivity, and excellence. Additionally, I encourage you to share the wonderful experiences of our Club with your friends and colleagues and invite them to join us as members. Let's grow our community and spread the joys of being part of the American Club Taipei.
Wishing you all a wonderful summer season filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments.
Dear Members,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Member Survey. Your feedback is incredibly valuable as we work towards improving and tailoring our offerings to better meet your needs and preferences. We are dedicated to considering the suggestions and comments, and we are committed to making positive changes based on your input.
As we approach the summer break, Management has been hard at work planning a lineup of exciting events and offerings for the upcoming months. We have a range of activities planned, including a sustainable green event with river cleaning in Zhuwei, celebrations for Mothers and Father's Day, the Swim Challenge, live music at Rendezvous, Wine Circle gatherings, Jazz Brunches, and our anticipated 4th of July Pool Party (which this year falls on Friday, July 5th).
The pool season is back, bringing with it the familiar delight of Friday night and Sunday afternoon festivities. The addition of new slides and bouncy pool equipment has set the stage for endless smiles, laughter, and happy screams from the children. We love witnessing their pure joy and excitement, knowing that these moments create cherished memories. And by the end of these fun-filled days, we hope to see many tired but contented kids, eagerly heading to bed early with hearts full of happy memories.
In Food and Beverage, we're not just introducing new menus; we're improving and redefining our food concepts. After analyzing sales, we've
removed unpopular dishes. We've also collaborated closely with the Food and Beverage Committee to select items that we think you'll love. Also despite rising raw food costs, we've kept prices steady whenever possible. Moreover, our updated wine list with a new interesting concept, will offer unbelievable value compared to outside restaurants. We invite you to enjoy these culinary updates and make the most of your Club experience.
I also invite you to join our various Line Broadcast Groups, which provide direct channels for staying updated on the latest club news, events, and promotions. These groups cover a wide range of interests, including sports updates, social gatherings, and special announcements. Simply scan the QR codes around the Club to join. Our Line Broadcast Channels have something for everyone, whether you're into sports, social or dining activities. Additionally, follow us on other social media platforms for more engaging content and interactive posts.
Please note that there will be some construction work taking place around the Club. We understand the inconvenience and assure you that we will do our best to limit disruptions and maintain a comfortable environment for all Members. We will also continue to focus on smaller touches and enhancements to further elevate the overall Member Experience.
As we gear up for the summer season, I wish each of you a fantastic time filled with relaxation, adventure, and cherished moments with loved ones. Whether you're spending your summer days at the Club, exploring new destinations, or simply enjoying Taiwan's beauty, I hope it's a season to remember.

Overall
202320222021
The overall scores for various aspects of Food & Beverage, as reflected in the 2023 ratings, have generally maintained a stable trend compared to the previous years, showcasing a consistent level of performance and satisfaction among Members. However, there is a notable need for a greater focus on achieving balance and consistency across all areas.
While Social Events & Activities, Terrace, Sigis, Gyoson, Rendezvous, Market, and Banqueting have maintained their overall scores within a relatively close range over the past three years, there are nuances within each category that suggest opportunities for improvement. For instance, while Terrace's score slightly decreased from 2022 to 2023, indicating a potential shift in Member perceptions, other areas like Gyoson and Rendezvous showed improvements, signifying areas of strength that can be leveraged. To enhance Member satisfaction and maintain a positive trajectory, it's crucial for Management to pay close attention to achieving a balanced approach across all aspects of the Club. This includes ensuring consistent quality, service, and experiences across social events, dining outlets and banqueting services. By focusing on balance and consistency, the Club can continue to meet Member expectations and drive overall satisfaction levels even higher.
Overall 202320222021
clear need to enhance value across all Club aspects and align pricing with comparable establishments. However, direct comparisons with local family-owned restaurants are not feasible due to their unique nature. Collaborating with the F&B Committee, the Club is actively refining its value proposition by benchmarking against similar venues, aiming for pricing 10-15% below. This strategy emphasizes our commitment to competitive pricing within our diverse dining landscape, benefiting our valued Members.
Additionally, the high percentage (nearly 86%) of Members open to hosting business meetings or parties at the Club indicates a positive outlook for Club events and gatherings. This is especially important with the soon to be renovated California and San Franciso Rooms, so Members are encouraged to communicate their event needs to the team for a seamless experience.
Members have expressed interest in expanded facilities for various sports, notably basketball and pickleball, indicating the rising enthusiasm for these activities within the Membership. However, acknowledging the constraints imposed by space limitations, fulfilling these demands poses significant challenges. Despite these challenges, the overall score remains consistently high, underscoring the commendable quality of service delivered by our dedicated staff.
The Club's value proposition has shown varied trends in recent years, with some areas maintaining stability or slight improvement while others saw a decline in value ratings. This reflects the delicate balance required in pricing, offerings, and meeting Member expectations, especially post-pandemic. There's a
The Management Team would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey, as it is an essential barometer for how we are doing. We look forward to focusing further on the Member's Experience this year and are always happy to receive feedback and comments.

In 1997, Michaela Stevens arrived in this country and met her husband in 1998. Initially desired to start their life in Brazil, she and her family started their journey in Taiwan. Their love blossomed into a family of five, blessed with three children: Isaac, Elliot, and Amalia. While their original destination may have been different, Taiwan became their cherished home, particularly due to its welcoming community. Deeply grateful for the warmth and support they received, Michaela and her husband wanted to return this compassion to society, to give back, leading them to enter the world of foster care six years ago.
She encountered The Garden of Mercy Foundation through the recommendation of a friend. The Garden of Mercy Foundation was founded in 1999. First, they aimed to provide care for AIDS patients but later expanded their service in 2005 to support newborns who were potentially HIV-positive or exposed to drugs through their mothers. Nowadays, they also take care of infants and children who suffer because of drug addiction, domestic violence, and families neglecting care, focusing on protective babies and the physical and mental health of children with special needs. Besides regular foster care, the foundation also has weekend foster families to help share the heavy workload of the full-time staff and volunteers for a more sustainable working environment. Initially hesitant about the uncertainty of possible complicated situations they might face, the innocent faces of the children at the foundation totally carried away her doubts and her innate maternal instinct prevailed, propelling her forward on a journey of nurturing and protection. Over six years, she opened her heart and home to five children, embodying the essence of foster care – providing a safe haven until children find permanence in their new or original families. Foster care is to provide protection and nurture to children in need of a safe and healthy environment with positive support until the children can join their new and permanent family or their original family. Even though the foster care is designed to provide temporary guardianship and usually the two parties part ways when the mission is fulfilled, it is hard to separate personal feelings when the connections between the foster families and children are stronger in some cases, make saying goodbye to a foster child to be perhaps one of the hardest aspects of being a foster parent.
Written by Bridget Liao Photo by Michaela StevensTo Michaela, this pain couldn’t hit home more. During her fostering years, she encountered a little girl that built such a strong bonding with herself and her family that made them want to become real families. Michaela fought for it, but the current law and its rigid form did not concern the reality and wouldn't allow the little girl to join Michaela's family no matter how much Michaela had tried. However, she still took comfort in knowing that that was the best outcome when the girl found her permanent home, and her role has made that transition possible.
Such bonding is hard to find, but Michaela and her family met a special boy that made them fall in love again, and this time even the social workers saw that the boy and Michaela were meant to be family and encouraged Michaela to try again. Under the hard work and intensive communication between all parties involved, Michaela and her husband finally received the boy's original family's agreement and obtained guardianship and custody of the boy: they are a family now. We don't know if kindness is inherited, but we all learn from watching our parents' behavior. Michaela found that not only has she changed these years being a foster parent, but she has also seen a positive change in her own kids and can't help but feel proud of them. Her children, enriched by the experience of fostering, exhibit humility, empathy, and compassion. They now recognize their privilege and extend kindness to those in need. As for Michaela, she did not know if she would be able to love a child she had not carried, as much as one she had. However, her motherly nature worked efficiently and seeing the boy flourish freely and become part of their family, just brings her joy. A mother's love knows no bounds; Michaela and all the mothers in the world support the world on their shoulders.

Exciting day at ACC as we welcomed squash players from the Tokyo American Club, one of our valued reciprocal clubs! Being part of an international club like ACC extends beyond our home base-it's about the vibrant network of reciprocal clubs around the globe.
Today's friendly match was not just a game; it was an opportunity to forge new connections, share experiences, and bask in the warmth of Taiwanese hospitality.
Joining ACC means more than just being part of a single club; it opens doors to a world of friendships and shared passions. Looking forward to many more enriching exchanges with our reciprocal club partners!
Fitness Fiesta | March 29
In celebration of Earth Month, ACC proudly launched Slow in Spring on March 15, in partnership with Slow Food Taitung. This initiative not only introduced the philosophy of Slow Food but also showcased a diverse array of Taitung's finest local products sourced directly from farmers committed to the movement's principles. Throughout the entire month of April, our Market’s promotional stand features everything from crispy rice snacks and organic rice/noodles to indigenous millet wine. Indulge in the flavors of the region with refreshing local fruit ice cream. The collaboration sparked further excitement with a special visit from Taitung Mayor April Yao, expressing gratitude for the increased exposure and support from our Members. Dive into the essence of Taitung's rich culinary heritage and sustainable ethos with Slow in Spring at ACC.
This year, as part of our Earth Month initiatives, we organized a tree planting event at QiYan Park in Taipei. It was heartening to witness our Members, alongside their families and friends, joining hands to plant trees for the future. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as everyone dedicated themselves to the cause, ensuring that all 80 trees were carefully planted along the riverbank. Each participant played a vital role in lessening carbon emissions and enhancing local biodiversity, creating a more sustainable environment for the diverse range of insects and animals that enrich our community.

The focus was on organizing donations of shoes, bags and clothes before they could be sorted and shipped out while also delving into an educational session on how sand bugs impact many African countries. As teams sorted through supplies, we engaged in discussions with the organizer about the challenges faced, gaining insight into the importance of public health initiatives and community support. It was a day of both giving back and learning.
