ABFAS Welcomes Newly Elected Officials Congratulations and welcome to the three new members of the AFBAS Board of Directors; Dr. Nicole A. Bauerly, DPM, Dr. Keith Jacobson, DPM (incumbent), and Dr. Michael VanPelt (incumbent). Drs. Jacobson and VanPelt were re-elected to second three-year terms, while Dr. Bauerly was elected to a new three-year term. Dr. Bauerly will be eligible to be nominated for re-election. All three members bring a vast wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board. Dr. Bauerly has been actively involved with ABFAS having served on various committees since 2015, serving on the Computer-based Patient Simulation (CBPS) Foot Examinations, Communications, and Credentials Committees. In addition, she has served on the Communications and Young Member Retention Committees of ACFAS and as an exam item writer with the National Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners. Locally, Dr. Bauerly is currently serving on the Minnesota Podiatric Medical Licensing Board (2012-present). She has also served on the Minnesota Podiatric Medical Association (2009-2012). Dr. VanPelt has volunteered with ABFAS since 2013. He has served on the ABFAS Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle CBPS Committee and is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, and is the Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Service at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Our Board of Directors has elected new officers who started their terms on September 1, 2018. Danny Choung, DPM-President. Dr. Choung has served on several committees, including the Intraining Item Writing Committee, the Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery Oral Examination Committee, and the Credentials Committee. He currently is a member of the Reconstructive Rearfoot/ Ankle CBPS Committee and has also served as an oral examiner. Keith Jacobson, DPM-President-elect. Dr. Jacobson specializes in trauma and reconstruction of the foot and ankle in adults and children. Dr. Jacobson has served as an ABFAS oral examiner and chaired the Foot CBPS Examination Committee. He also served on the ACFAS Surgical Skills Committee while participating as a clinical instructor/lecturer for many of the College’s courses. William Adams, DPM-Secretary/Treasurer. Dr. Adams has been actively involved with ABFAS since 2007. He served as an oral examiner from 2007 to 2014 and has been on the Cognitive Examination Committee, Credentials Committee, and Foot CBPS Examination Committee. Matthew Williams, DPM-Immediate Past-President. Dr. Williams has been a member of the ABFAS Examinations Committee since 2005, served as chair of the Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery Oral Committee and was an oral examiner from 2004-2014. Dr. Williams actively participates in programs providing charity care for children in both stateside and overseas medical missions. Mindy Benton, DPM, ended her term as Immediate-Past President in August. ABFAS thanks Dr. Benton for her work with the Board. Dr. Benton has served on various ABFAS committees including the In-training Item Writing Committee, the Cognitive Examination Committee, and chaired the Board Certification Content Development Committee. Dr. Benton will continue to serve ABFAS as chair of the New Pathways/Case Review Committee. 6
