MIB calls for self regula on to tackle the menace of fake news

s there is non-stop spread in fake news the Press Council of Bureau (PIB) has set up Fact Check Units across the country to make the public aware of the reality. Union Minister of Informa on and Broadcas ng Shri Prakash Javadekar said that said fake news is more dangerous than paid news and called for self regula on while publishing digital content to curb the menace. "Paid news is much milder than what fake news is. Fake news has a very potent power of disturbing the peace. The manipula on of public opinion over social media pla orms has emerged as a cri cal threat to public life," he said at a virtual event organised by industry body IAMAI. “I am a man who believes in self-regula on. Industry bodies and digital media companies need to decide. For instance people can complaint to ASCI for complaints related to adver sing. Similarly, there should be a mechanism for fake news,” he said. “Otherwise everyone will have to bear the brunt of this menace,” he added.

the Government put a ban on 59 Chinese apps which also included the popular short-video app- TikTok. A er 59 app, in July, 47 applica ons were blocked that were clones of the blocked apps. The decision is taken in the “interests of safety, security, integrity and sovereignty of the Indian cyberspace and crores of people. As these banned apps which are termed as ‘malicious apps’ were engaged in the ac vi es which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India and security of state and public order”. The apps have been banned under Sec on 69A of the Informa on Technology Act. The applica ons blocked involve both the mobile and non-mobile internet-enabled devices. he oﬃcial broadcaster Star India roped in three Co-Presen ng partners for the thirteenth edi on of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2020. Star India has signed up Amazon, PhonePe and India’s top fantasy sports brand- Dream 11 as co-presen ng sponsors for this year’s edion. Dream11 has bagged the tle sponsorship for Rs 222 crore replacing Vivo which had signed a Rs2200 crore, 5 year deal with BCCI; from the thirteenth season. Amazon, PhonePe and Dream11 are set to be joined by Coca-Cola, MRF, ITF Foods, Polycab, Asian Paint, Mondolez and Kamala Pasand, who will adver se around Star’s coverage. IPL has also added the Ed-tech company, Unacademy as the new IPL tles sponsor by taking the place of Future Group who has recently made their way to the exit. Unacademy has signed for three years as IPL central sponsor and will shell out in the range of 120-130 Crore for the period. Star India lost few of the IPL 2019’s biggest onair adver sers this year. SpaceX launches 60 Starlink internet satellites
