The focus will be on IT & Services for newsgathering which con nues to be the 2nd largest burn for broadcasters. Likewise for GECs, the learning is introspec on. Their role is primarily that of commissioning producers & content syndicators and for that far leaner organiza ons are needed. What will also propel this transforma on is the slow yet steady growth of OTT / digital pla orms that have decayed GECs and News revenue over the last two years. Within the stack, TV News will be the largest transformed en ty when COVID-19 bids adieu. Digital news is the future and this has been fairly established with nearly 75% growth in viewership in the segment. TV News has been riddled with heavy newsgathering cost and distribu on, most of this is primarily because such organiza ons have treated digital as a catch-up mechanism. Understandably, they also saw it as something that will annihilate the tradi onal powerful editorial chairs. All that will be a thing of past as I am certain, promoters and stakeholders would have realized that news organiza ons are heavily loaded with cosme c expenses that were actually pulling the Industry down. Programming within News will also need to be strengthened. The new focus area will be studio programming and features to aid business reengineering.

Print Media: This segment will rally forward given the enormous credibility the segment enjoys. The internal processes for news gathering and editorial prac ces will

MIB dra s new policy guidelines for Uplinking & Downlinking of TV channels, invites suggestions within 15 days

inistry of Informa on and Broadcas ng has dra ed a new policy guidelines for the uplinking and downlinking of V channels and teleports. Under the guidelines the ministry said that the channels can only display the logo and the name that has been approved by the ministry. Further, the channels presen ng the logo and name that have not been approved by the ministry would be charged with penal ac on as the ministry would consider it as a viola on of guidelines. A company may apply for the name change and logo change through Broadcast Seva portal. The ministry has said that the companies are required to pay Rs 2,00,000 per channel for uplinking under the annual permission fee. The companies interested to downlink a channel within India are required to pay Rs 5,00,000 per channel while those downlinking

outside India are required to pay Rs 15,00,000 per channel. The ministry also specified ten thousand rupees as processing fees for a TV channel and news agency. A company is required to have a minimum net worth of Rs 5 crore for first non-news and current affairs TV channel. Further, a minimum net worth of Rs 2.50 crore is required for each addi onal channel under the same segment of non-news and current affairs. Similarly, a company is also required to have a net worth of Rs 20 crore for the first news and current affairs TV channel. Further, a minimum of Rs 5 crore is required for each addi onal channel of the company under the same segment. The comments and sugges ons are invited from the stakeholders within 15 days. The series is created, wri en and directed by Ramanand Sagar, chronicled the life of Lord Krishna. The show was 1st broadcast on Doordarshan's Metro Channel (DD 2) from 1993, but moved to DD Na onal in 1996. 'Shri Krishna' starred actor Sarvadaman D Banerjee as the adult Krishna, while Swwapnil Joshi played the teenage version of the character.
