Introduction: Frontlinehealthcareworkersfaceenormousstressorsduringnor maltimes,butespeciallytodayduringthepandemic:fearofcon tractingthevirus,concernforprotectingtheirfamilies,griefover watchingpatientsdie,andanxietyoverresourcerationingdeci sions.Tragically,theseissuesareincreasinghealthcareprovider stressandharmingtheirmentalhealth,assomebegintodisplay ‘symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder’1.

Evenbeforethepandemic,levelsofstressandburnoutinhealth careworkerswerehigh.Fifteenpercentofnursesreported feelingsofburnoutina ‘2019 survey’2.Burnoutisamongthe leadingpatientsafetyandqualityconcernsamonghealthcare organizations,asitcandecreaseworkperformanceandincrease riskoferrors.

Abstract MovingforwardwiththepresentCOVID19Pandemic,thein creasedworkstresslevelhascertainlyaffectedPsychologicaland Physiologicalhealthwellbeingamongthehealthcareworkers.

Andthishasmitigatedtheimportanceofself-resilienceamongthe healthcareworkersfromtheincreaseofviolenceandthreatoras saultcircumstancesinthepresentpandemicsituation.Healthcare workersrequirearespitezoneorbreakoutspaceswherethey canrelax,recuperate,andregenerate.

Thereisanaffirmativeneedtodesignforthewellbeingandhealth ofthecaregiversinthepresentInteriorarchitecturetoreduce stresslevelatprivateorpublichospitalsaswellasneedaspace torecoverfastfromsuchevents.

Anapproachfocusingonfactorsthatsupporthumanhealthand wellbeing,ratherthanonfactorsthatcausedisease,atermknown asSalutogenesis.CombiningthisapproachwiththeNature’s secretstolearnandimproveonresilienceandeffectivenessinour livingenvironmentbyunderstandingthefeaturesandprinciples ofBiophilicDesign,.DesigningaSalutogenicspatialexperience (respitezone)forthefastrecoverythenursesordoctors.

Understandingphysiologicalimpactand psychologicaleffectsonhealthcareworkers: Healthcareworkersareexposedtoanumberofstresses,ranging fromworkoverload,timepressures,andlackofroleclaritytodealing withinfectiousdiseasesanddifficultandill,helplesspatients.Such stressorscanleadtophysical,psychologicalsymptoms,whichcould affectthechangeinbehaviour.

Physicalsymptomsinclude: •Fatigue •Musculartension • Headaches •Heartpalpitations •Sleepingdifficulties,suchasinsomnia •Gastrointestinalupsets,suchasdiarrhoeaorconstipation •Dermatologicaldisorders.
