The changing nature of our climate is acknowledged globally as a growing risk, with extreme weather events like heatwaves or floods predicted to become even more destructive over the coming decades. In Mumbai, India, for example, the banks of the Mithi river are now flooded multiple times a year; and mass-urbanisation and banks’ encroachment are considered aggravating factors. Rewilding Mumbai is a 1km-long bio designed promenade aiming to improve the quality of life of the local slum community. While mitigate the impact of flooding and purifying excess water for sanitation and drinking purposes, the project also aims to rewild Mumbai’s disappearing mangroves.
