Good evening and welcome to the 2022-23 American Advertising Awards! I’m Johanna Talarico, President of AAF Dubuque this year and I think that it is just so peachy keen to be here with all of you and to kick off another great show.

Being surrounded by technology 24/7, and feeling like we are never moving fast enough to keep up with trends or the world, it is nice to take a step back to the simpler times of sock hops, and soda shops. Being able to celebrate our achievements with our friends and family. Feeling like we are finally turning the corner towards normalcy, making new client partnerships, and just celebrating life in general. So tonight, we honor all the amazing work and new connections that have been produced by our incredibly talented creative community.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the honor and privilege to collaborate with some of the area’s best and brightest advertising professionals— the AAF board. These individuals banded together to make tonight and all our events this year possible.

The Silver Medal Award was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.

This year’s winner is the epitome of all the above. She is a dedicated and driven professional who fully understands the importance of culture and brand, and works to instill this approach with her colleagues and staff. As a vice president of marketing communication, she leads her organization’s marketing, communication, advertising, social media, copywriting, and digital experience efforts for 22 branches and more than 155,000 stakeholders.

She is an innovative leader who helps drive the success of her team, living out her organization’s brand promise in all she does. Her belief in helping first successfully builds trust and develops relationships, keeping her organization top of mind as an industry leader.

Her experience, skills, and ability to connect with people allow her to have a strong impact everywhere she goes. Her forward-thinking ability and passion help future-proof her organization, providing opportunities to continue growing and driving for success. She’s always pushing her to team to problem solve creatively and always willing to try new ideas. She’s behind the scenes working to coach, create, or deliver, timely, impactful marketing communication.

Early in her career, she was very involved in AAF Dubuque as a member and board member, attending local, regional, and national events for AAF

and encouraging new advertising professionals to get involved. She also served as a judge during Student Talk Back events, helping with portfolios and professional recommendations to further the advertising and design careers of emerging talent.

If all the above wasn’t enough, she has a demonstrated history of lending her time throughout the community, serving in roles including:

• Being a board member of the Northeast Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross

• Past Hospice of Dubuque volunteer and Best Fest Committee Member

• Past Girl Scouts volunteer

• Past Dubuque Area Swimming Hurricanes volunteer

• Past President and board member of AAF Dubuque

And she has also been honored with:

• The Dubuque Telegraph Herald Rising Star Award in 2016

• AAF Dubuque Member of the Year Award

• Red Cross Above and Beyond Award

• The Red Cross Philanthropic Volunteer of the Year Award

With no further ado, it is my distinct pleasure to honor Jennifer Hanniford with this year’s Silver Medal Award.

The AAF Dubuque Member of the Year Award is given to an individual who has worked hard over the year to be a driving force behind the American Advertising Federation of Dubuque.

Tyler Breitbach My Four Creative

The AAF Dubuque Member of the Year Award is given to an individual who has worked hard over the year to be a driving force behind the American Advertising Federation of Dubuque. In addition, nominees actively participate in club activities, planning events, and volunteering. This year, our recipient has all these qualities and more.

Tyler Breitbach joined the board in 2022 as our At-Large Director. He has offered his time, creativity, and talents to bring each opportunity to life through video—recapping the many benefits of AAF Dubuque—including the AAAwards event production! Since the beginning, Tyler has gone above and beyond to support the needs of AAF. Early on, it became clear that he is a significant asset to our club!

Tyler is a visionary that breathes life into every idea and is a fun, lively collaborator that makes every project a joy. With over a decade working in video production, he’s had the opportunity to work in various markets with fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and non-profits. As a Co-Founder of My Four Creative, Tyler works daily to simplify the video production process to make it more accessible and affordable for businesses and organizations of any size.

Along with building My Four Creative with his wife, Nicole, he’s also a dedicated father of three daughters, Austin, Dylan and Logan. They live their lives to the fullest and can often be found traveling, spending time on the river and making many beautiful memories together. Congratulations to this year’s Member of the Year, Tyler Breitbach!

How many glizzies gobbled?! Hey there little buddy, you got a HOTDOG? (Listeria monocytogenes is the bacteria found in the intestinal track of animals, and can also be found Okay... what’s inside? Hot dogs are made of some combination of: pork, beef, chicken, or turkey. But what PARTS of these animals, you may ask? head meat, feet, fatty tissue, blood... ...and other edible slaughter by-products! How many wieners can eat before my organs shut down? A study found that person can handle about 7-8 hot dogs, along with the buns, per minute. If this is done each minute for 10 minutes during the hot dog eating contest, measures out to about 20,000 calories. After that point, the body stops digestion and starts shutting down. The data was taken from Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Nobody at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has died (yet), but people have been hospitalized from choking, esophageal tears, and breathing in their own vomit. It’s dangerous to eat that many hotdogs at once, and the potential for death is there. Please don’t let your death be from improperly eating hot dog. That would be embarrassing. Why are they called hotdogs? The word “hot dog” originated from “hot dachshund sausages.” One popular reference from 1906, when cartoonist referred to them as hot dogs. How many of them bad boys? Each year, Americans will usually purchase approximately 350 million pounds of hot dogs, or about billion individual hot dogs. The number of individual hot dogs consumed by Americans may be up to 20 billion, which is Why does America love hotdogs? Hot dogs are typically associated with basethe Fourth of July, the Americans are estimated to eat about 150 million hotdogs (no, not individually). Their connection with sports in America is probably Far too many. Too many to count, even! we can only get rough because nobody really documenting wienies. It’s estimated an American will eat about 70 hot dogs in one year. don’t know who can eat that many, but power to you guess. So, how did you die?
