I

want to congratulate all the hard working Leland and Pioneer high school students that graduated this year, and of course my own senior Nina Derksen. I couldn’t be prouder of the joy it has brought me to watch you blossom into a beautiful and smart young lady. I am truely blessed and thankful to have you in my life. You have the best heart a mother could ask for. Our community is a lovely area made up of caring individuals. When one achieves greatness, I believe the people surrounding them have much to do with it. Almaden is a fantastic neighborhood full of great individuals and families. Occasionally life has some unbearable twists, however. Life can be fleeting as it has proven recently with the loss of innocent lives. I pray for those that lost their life recently in Santa Barbara, as well as their family members left behind to grieve their loss. Words can not express the unbearable sarrow of losing a child. The parents of George Chen, however, showed strength and dignity during the Leland candlelight vigil - a true inspiration with the pain so new. Our hearts are with you. I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what your school, business or organization is up to, or helping you promote your business. If you would like to collaborate, please send me an email.

n May 20th, Simonds Elementary School hosted the Almaden Valley Kids Choral Festival (AVKCF) at South Hills Community Church. Choirs from Simonds, Allen at Steinbeck, Williams, Almaden Country and Castillero schools performed at the event. Each school performed two or three of their own songs, and guest conductor David Finch from Castillero Middle School, rehearsed and later led all the choirs in singing “Funiculi Funicula.” Williams Elementary Choir, led by Wendi Mazzocco, began the individual choir performances with “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.” The Allen at Steinbeck School choir followed with the songs “O Desayo” and “Three Little Birds,” conducted by Joey Fortino. Julia Hatch then led Almaden Country School’s group in “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” “For Good,” and “Seasons of Love.” Simonds Elementary Choir, directed by Terry Bermudez, sang “Jubilate Deo” and “Around the World with Disney.” Finally, David Finch’s group, Castillero 08 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine

Concert Chorale, performed “Lullaby of Birdland,” “I Was Here,” and “What a Wonderful World.” The Almaden Valley Kids Choir Festival was made possible by a grant from the Almaden Valley Women’s Club and Simonds Music and Technology Foundation (SMTF). SMTF raises more than $250,000 a year to pay for a full time music teacher, a technology resource, and to fund Simonds music and computer programs. “Thank you to the Almaden Valley Women’s Club for your generous grant which has made this wonderful event possible,” said Alicia Hom, president of the Foundation. Josephine Taubert, SMTF VP of Music Programs, applied for the grant on behalf of choir teacher Terry Bermudez. Bermudez has shared her talents, drive and love of music with Simonds’ children for more than 30 years. The Festival was a result of her vision, but she has now retired as Simonds Choir teacher. “This festival is a high point in my career, bringing children together to sing and appreciate each others’ songs,” said Ms. Bermudez.

CELEBRATING ALMADEN– The Almaden Country Club Gets Closer To Realizing Its Vision of a New Facility

A

lmaden Country Club is remodeling, as you may know. If not familiar with the club operations, however, you may not know exactly what that is going to mean to the club membership and to the community in general. Recently, the members of Almaden Country Club embarked on a “Celebrate Almaden” campaign when it replaced its usual President’s Ball with a less formal celebratory event. “It was important for us to celebrate the history of the club by honoring everyone who has served the club over the years, but to also acknowledge the dozens of new members who’ve joined over the past few years, since we passed the plan to renovate the facility,” said Steve Maxwell, president of Almaden Country Club. “But it was also important to celebrate and begin to bring to reality the vision we have of what the club will be when we occupy the new facility in the Fall of 2015,” Mr. Maxwell continued. During the ceremony, they highlighted the history of the club with photos and memorabilia from old events from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. There were also three large boards with all the names of the new members who have joined the club in the past three years. The Celebrate Almaden theme is an important one, as many people don’t realize the rich history and heritage the club has. It has held a PGA Tour event, a Web.com (then Nike Tour) event, an LPGA Tour event, numerous NCAA events, NCGA tournaments, and USGA qualifying tournaments. The club also hosts and has sponsored many local charity events such as the Brent Jones Young Life tournament and other celebrations for local community groups and schools. “Having a full service, family centric country club that supports our members and our community is something that is very important to us. And it is something we want to bring forward with us in the new facility,” Mr. Maxwell commented.

Almaden Country Club Receives Conditional Use Permit Approval From the City of San Jose

In May, the club was granted its Conditional Use Permit (CUP) from the San Jose Planning Commission, along with the building permits necessary for the renovation of the facility. “It is going to be an outstanding facility. One that the membership and the community will be proud of,” said Bob Tarsio, past president, and current chairman of the club’s construction committee. “We’ve been able to accomplish something special by developing a very modern facility that will accommodate the needs of a 21st century club. We will have state of the art kitchen facilities that will be able to accommodate our members and the private events held at the club, and we’ve also produced a design that accentuates the tremendous views we have of the golf course, the foothills, and up to Mt Umunhum,” Mr. Tarsio added.

10 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine 08 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine

The club was able to accomplish these design elements while keeping the impact on the neighborhood to a minimum. The updated design will stand roughly on the same footprint of the property, with the increased capacity housed primarily by replacing the single story locker room building with a two-story structure that will still house the locker rooms, but also the men’s and women’s lounge areas, the pro shop, café, golf cart storage and a new exercise room. The new facility plans were met with some concern from neighbors of the club, as some were concerned the updated facility would cause a significant increase in traffic and noise in the area immediately surrounding the club. However, these concerns were mitigated through the conditions of use to which the club agreed as part of the CUP process. “We worked very hard with the City Planning Staff, our architect, general contractor, and the neighbors to make changes to some design elements, change some of our procedures with respect to deliveries, recycling and garbage control and pick-up, noise and activity levels during the summer swimming season, and also agreed to limit the number of members the club will admit,” said Steve Maxwell. “The club had never been put in a position to consider a cap on the total membership the club would allow. But in retrospect, we believe this will be a positive thing for the club and the neighborhood, as we will be able to minimize the impact on the community by our members, but we will be able to provide a much higher standard of service to our current and future members. A reduction in supply will increase the demand, but also requires high quality in order to support the finite member base,” he added.

Mr. Maxwell believes the demand for memberships will increase dramatically now that the construction phase is about to begin and because the number of memberships the club can have is now limited. “We’ve already seen an increase in membership applications, and we think this is a fantastic sign for the future of the club,” Mr. Maxwell said. “We want the increase to continue, obviously, as that is good for the health of the club, but we also want to grow, improve, and be the place that everyone who lives in the Almaden community wants to be. The novelty of being the same old club in a new building will wear off very fast, so we are already working on services, events, and activities to hold during construction and when we occupy our new facility.” Asked what members of the community should do if they are considering becoming a member, Mr. Maxwell answered, “We encourage all our neighbors who might

Experienced Care- Close to Home!

The New Privacy Battle– Your “Right to Be Forgotten”

A

landmark case just recently decided by the Court of Justice of the European Union focused on the “right to be forgotten.” As a result of the decision, European users can now ask Internet providers to remove personal information that has become “outdated” or “irrelevant.” While some might think this is a simple task to accomplish, it’s more complicated when you consider companies like Google, who use complex search algorithms to determine user search results. Suddenly, a complicated process of determining what information to serve to searchers based on online inquiries has become even more complicated. The case began when a Spanish man saw that Google had indexed the pages of a Spanish newspaper announcing the auction of his home in 1998. He wanted Google and the newspaper to remove those pages, or at least conceal the information, but he met with extreme resistance from Google, with Google arguing doing so amounted to censorship. In a decision which surprised many, the Court of Justice decided that the man’s “right to be forgotten” outweighed the importance of making publicly available information available through Google links. The Court went on to say that Google needed to provide users with the option to erase such results. Within 24 hours of Google posting an online form allowing European citizens to request the removal of inadequate or irrelevant information, it received over 12,000 requests, an average of one request every seven seconds. Not surprisingly, approximately two-thirds of these requests related to accusations of fraud, violent/serious crimes, and child pornography arrests… clearly, things that some would like forgotten. The right to be forgotten highlights a serious problem in the digital age: with every photo, tweet, and status update living forever in the cloud, it can be very hard to escape your past. While the existence of this information may create a personal problem, the removal of it creates a very complex problem for companies such as Facebook and Google, who can be liable if they fail to remove photos that people post (then regret and want removed), even if those photos have been widely distributed. At the present time, the “right to be forgotten” law has not made its way to the United States, (although it is impacting U.S. companies). Whether it will become U.S. law is yet to be seen, as the United States strives to strike a balance between privacy and free speech in the digital age. If I post something online, do I have the right to delete it? What if I post something, and then someone copies it and re-posts it on their site? Do I still have the right to delete it? Or what if information is first posted by someone else about me? What then? Serious concerns about freedom of expression and freedom of speech exist, and it’s still unclear how broadly the European community will apply the regulations defining the right to be forgotten. But here in the U.S., at least for now, keep in mind that when you post online it may be there for a long time!

St. Anthony Provides Shelter Dinners for the Homeless

E

very other Saturday from late January through April, the St. Anthony parishioners of Almaden Valley serve nutritious meals to the homeless at the Emergency Housing Consortium on Little Orchard in San Jose. Saturday morning starts with a run to several stores for fresh produce, fruit and ham to be later prepared, cooked and served by a faithful crew ready to lend a helping hand. Often there are donations of oranges from a fruit laden tree, or fresh baked cookies by willing students from Valley Christian and St. Victor’s school. As a fifth grade teacher, I encourage my students to do their part in helping others. On Valentine’s Day, a ten year old carefully shaped chocolate chip cookies into perfect hearts. For other holidays, students make decorated placemats with little messages of encouragement. Easter comes with baskets of chocolate eggs and candy on each table. The doors open promptly at five as a line of hungry clients wait to be admitted and given their plastic ware and napkin. Cool drinks of soda, fruit juice and water are offered to accompany the meal. Each year, with minor variations, we have served baked ham, beans, green salad, and everybody’s favorite, potato salad. We get many requests for seconds of potato salad and cookies. We accommodate vegetarians with a special meatless plate with extra salad and beans. Our clients are given fresh bread and an orange with every plate. We are there to serve; no request is ever too big. They parade in with eager faces, some with grateful eyes, others with downcast looks. It is amazing how many people smile and look so positive. 14 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine

After weeks of getting to know them, we look forward to hearing how they finally landed a job or a new place to live. They always say “Thank you” and many wish us “God bless”. Yet, we are the ones who are blessed. Each face tells a different story. Some are obviously battling inner demons, while others simply look down on their luck. They could be our co-workers, our neighbors; passengers on light rail. Yet, their trains have stalled and they need help getting back on track. They serve as a reminder that any of us could find ourselves in this position. We are all vulnerable to life’s twists and unexpected turns. We get to know some of their stories and our lives are forever touched. Can we make a difference? Will one person sleep a little better that night because we were there? We certainly hope so. Forty minutes later, they wander out with full stomachs and a fresh bag of toiletries put together by our Outreach Committee: soap, shampoo, deodorant, razors, lotion and a new toothbrush and paste to get them through the week. Until we meet again, we want them to know we are there for them and we won’t let them down. I am grateful for the team that assists me each year without fail, and the new faces we have recruited. It would not be possible to feed the 150-200 people each time without their help. St. Anthony’s is a giving parish with faithful volunteers who never let me down. I know I am truly blessed.

e’ve all been touched by a ballet dancer’s graceful expression, strength and flexibility during a ballet performance. Whether a distant memory of your own dancing experience; a family tradition to view the Nutcracker during the holiday season; a special night at the Theatre; or even the tiny dancer that used to commonly twirl to music when we opened our jewelry boxes as young kids. This amazingly artistic dance demonstration began in Italy during the Renaissance as far back as the 1400s as royal court entertainment, and spread through Europe during the next century, and later nations in centuries to follow. It is pleasant to see a local foundation keeping the ballet dream alive, with a little help from friends. Marcie Ryken founded Los Gatos Ballet School in 2002 and Los Gatos Ballet Foundation, a non-profit organization, in 2005. The dancers of this premier school are afforded the opportunity to serve the community through performances, artist enrichment programs, mentorship programs and outreach programs in schools which are funded by the Foundation. The Los Gatos Ballet Foundation manages an ongoing efforts to support these enriching programs.

Recently, for example, the Los Gatos Ballet Foundation held a successful fundraiser “Wine, Cheese & Chocolate” at Black Ridge Vineyards March 30th. Parents enjoyed that the Sunday afternoon event was “kid friendly” with a bouncy house and art activities, as it freed them up to enjoy the wine pairing and other activities indoors. Thanks to the great attendance, between the admission ticket sales, silent auction, raffle ticket sales, sponsors, and other donations, the total raised was close to $25,000. One silent auction item was a stay at Villa Marcella, a 10,000 square foot beachfront mansion in Cabo San Lucas. They released a custom labeled Black Ridge blend appropriately named Pirouette and only 69 cases remain from the limited 90 case production. To help this worthy cause and toast your good deeds with a glass of this excellent wine, purchase it by visiting www.losgatosballet.org/pirouette. The goal of the fundraiser was to raise money to support Los Gatos Ballet productions for 2014 (Sleeping Beauty and Nutcracker) as well as support the Leaps and Bounds outreach program that brings dance education to underserved students. The foundation has just kicked off a Capital Campaign to raise an additional $50,000 needed to produce the Nutcracker at the Flint Center. See you online @ www.95120Lifestyle.com | 17

Let’s Dance! Join Arthur Murray

If you’ve never tried dancing, you’re missing out. Ballroom Dance is the hottest craze, and although Dancing With The Stars showcases the Hollywood Glitz side, social dancing is where it’s at. With hot dances like Salsa and Swing, popular spots in the Bay Area are now starting to carry their own weight in the dancing scene. Classic dances are making their way back and dancing with a partner is more popular than ever. We sat down with Juan de Dios and Cari Jo Garcia, the owners of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Los Gatos, to get the low down on all things Ballroom Dance. Tell me a little about Arthur Murray. What’s the mission statement or goal of the organization? Arthur Murray’s mission statement is Change Your Life One Dance At A Time. It’s so true. We’ve seen hundreds if not thousands of people walk through those doors and helped them make positive changes in their life. Even though we teach dance, we train our instructors to know that it’s so much more than just a step we’re teaching people. What are some of the benefits that ballroom dancing can have on someone? Wow, that’s a loaded question. There are so many. I guess it depends on the individual. However, most come in for the stress relief. Being in Silicon Valley, life gets so hectic sometimes that we all need a break. I believe the studio provides 22 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine

that oasis for them. Couples like the lesson as their date night, and simply as break from their routine. They feel it reenergizes their relationship. Dancing so close together, how could you not? But a lot of people like the health benefits. It’s just so invigorating, you get lost in the music and the physical art of it. How can you not leave happy when you’re moving your body to music? How long have you been with Arthur Murray? Well, we’ve been with Arthur Murray for over 15 years now. Teaching, traveling and consulting for the company, we’ve had a blast helping people everyday. Getting to see what dancing can do for them has made it all worthwhile. It’s amazing! Ballroom dancing, as it has been said, can change lives. You believe that. How have you seen it change one of your students’ lives? We have a lady who attends our Los Gatos studio that came in because she was very tired at work. She knew she needed to exercise, but didn’t want to work out late at night at the gym by herself. She would drive by the studio for weeks on her way home and saw everyone having fun. At first she was so nervous, but we made her feel at home the moment she came in. After the first lesson, she caught the bug and has been with the studio for over 10 years. She loves the socializing most, but has developed into a wonderful dancer. In fact she just came back from her first Dance Competition and absolutely loved it.

Why Los Gatos? We’ve had our studio in San Jose for several years and wanted to expand. Los Gatos seemed to be the best spot to begin with their love of health, fitness, dance and community. All great matches for what we wanted to accomplish. We’ve been here for 2 years and have participated in community events like Jazz on the Plazz and Music in the Park. It’s great to see how alive and full of life everyone is here. We’ve already seen how dancing can help with the clients that we have in our studio so far, that we can’t wait to show the whole town as well as surrounding areas just what dancing can do for them. How is ballroom dancing different from other types of exercise? I think any form of exercise is great because anytime you’re up and moving, that’s a bonus to becoming a better you, but I believe ballroom is the most social. You always meet people and you’re constantly having a conversation with them through the art of dance. In addition to that, it exercises the mind and body all in at once. The combination of pattern memorization and body movement, make for a perfect workout. What type of lessons do you offer? We offer 3 kinds of sessions. The one-on-one lesson is designed to help you learn specifically what you need with your own dancing. Group classes teach you a variety of patterns, balance, and general knowledge as well as how to lead and follow different partners. Lastly, practice sessions help you take everything you learn and apply it in a real life situation (with the help of instructors in case you need it). Do I need a partner? No. In fact although both singles and couples are welcome, most come in on their own. Anyone will be able to benefit from taking lessons and we prepare for whoever decides to come whether on their own or with a partner. How can someone get started? To start, all you need is the desire to want to dance. Most people think it’s natural and although some can do it more naturally than others, Ballroom Dancing is a trained skill. Anyone can learn how. In fact you begin with a complimentary private lesson just to get you started. After that we have different packages to choose from depending on what you’d like, sort of like a country club. All you have to do is just call the studio and any one of our team members can help you get started over the phone. It’s that easy.

By Richard Clarke

“So let’s Talk...”

S

o let’s talk...” a simple enough opening for a conversation between two people. Of course depending on the circumstances leading up to this opening comment, it could get dicey very quickly. Imagine the person who’s asking you is a family member who’s been diagnosed with a life threatening chronic disease... say Cancer. How do you respond and not have him or her feel upset by your answer. Or maybe it is you they are trying to not upset. The problem most often is that the concerns for taking care of the other individual is shared by both, the patient doesn’t want you his/her: son, daughter, brother, sister, wife, husband, mother, father, or friend to suffer. And the husband, wife, son, daughter, friend ,etc, sitting in the chair across from you is attempting to give the loving support they feel you need to get through this. And each is afraid to fail in this attempt of comforting the other. I have been blessed in having had such conversations as a son, friend, and as part of my role as provider of care in support of Hospice to families that have had to go through this difficult period of time. I am reminded of a book I read many years ago “Difficult Conversation-How to discuss what matters most” by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen. This book was meant as a business tool but the primary idea was that in life as in business, “we often avoid difficult conversations.” When we find ourselves having to have such conversations (discussing the fact of our mortality with family or friends) our response often is with an expectation of a negative outcome. We don’t automatically allow ourselves to be imperfect beings. Allow all participants their vulnerability, their compassion, and their love. Moving into this “uncomfortableness conversation” with the idea of already forgiving anything that may be said incorrectly. When someone is suffering, others around are unsure of how to talk about the situation and not be an expert in this area, so mistakes can and will be made. It’s never easy to sit down and discuss the certainty of death, but it can be easier when the conversation is to make that transition as peaceful and kind as possible for all concerned. I recommend families sit down and discuss their wishes with their fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, as a simple expression of how you want to move into the future without leaving things unsaid. I have learned in discussions had with those with far more professional training than I, that having such conversations are a gift. So walk over to someone you care about and allow yourself to be uncomfortable in your love for them and discuss your and their plans for the future. And start with: “So lets talk...”

A Special Tribute to

Paul Ward December 7, 1942 – February 22, 2013

I received this touching “Letter to the Editor” from Kerri Antes, a longtime Almaden resident and genuinely sweet person I am glad to have met. We don’t always remember to tell people that sometimes just something as simple as another parent with a friendly demeanor makes one happy to be part of the community. Thanks for sharing this personal story:

I

am writing as a lifetime Almaden resident who has a story I thought 95120 might be interested in telling. My name is Kerri Ward Antes, and I grew up in Almaden and live here still with my family in the Country View Estates area behind Williams Elementary. I attended Williams Elementary, Bret Harte Junior High, and Presentation High, and my boys attended Williams, Holy Spirit School and Bellarmine. You and I met originally through Williams when our kids were there and I believe we spent some time together at the Tae Kwon Do near the old PW Super as well. As I recall, you were taking lessons right along with your kids. I wasn’t as brave - I was in the parents’ chairs. :-) My father, Paul Ward, a resident of Almaden since the mid-60’s, passed away last year after a horrific battle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was an extreme adventurer, pursuing downhill and crosscountry skiing, backpacking in both the winter and summer, fly fishing, hiking in Quicksilver, Tahoe, and Europe…you name it. He summited Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 68, just two years before he died. On February 28th the Sierra Club announced that family and his friends, most of them Almaden residents, are funding the construction of the Paul Ward Memorial Hut in the Truckee Tahoe area - a backcountry ski hut just outside Truckee where my parents have a home. This will be the first new hut to be built since 1957. We were able to tell my dad of this hut just months before his passing 26 | 95120 Almaden Lifestyle Magazine

during a special day we planned for him that included a “walk” on the Point Lobos State Reserve’s new accessible trail along China Cove. I am grateful he knew this project would encourage hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of people to explore the beautiful winter backcountry he loved so much. I have attached a link to the Sierra Club Hut System page if you’d like to familiarize yourself with it, along with a photo I took of the bench at Point Lobos where we gave my dad the news. I hope this finds you well, and thank you for your time. Sincerely, Kerri Ward Antes www.sierraclub.org/outings/lodges/huts

T

he Sierra Club announced a design study for a new backcountry ski and snowshoe hut. The Club will build the hut as a memorial to the late Paul Ward, whose family and friends are funding the project. This would be the fifth Sierra Club hut in the Donner Summit/ Lake Tahoe area, but the first new one since 1957. Finding a suitable location will be an early goal of the study. The four existing huts are on public land between Donner Pass and Desolation Wilderness and are managed under a Special Use Permit issued by the Truckee Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service. The study will also consider environmental issues, hut design and engineering, and cost. Timing of construction will depend on results of the study. People interested in becoming involved can contact Dick Simpson, the Club’s Hut Volunteer Coordinator, at hut.coord@yahoo.com.

Join the EMQ Tennis Tournament EMQ FamiliesFirst is a non-profit organization which provides social services to families, especially children, suffering neglect, abuse and trauma. The EMQ Tennis Marathon raises funds to directly support EMQ FF. Started in 1983, the Tennis Marathon is an ongoing, annual fundraising effort involving singles and doubles players. How it operates: The Marathon is made up of a Doubles Marathon and a Singles Marathon. Eight doubles teams and eight singles players of approximately the same playing ability are placed in each group. There are daytime groups, weekend and evening groups and flexible groups. Each participant receives a list of all other teams/players in their group along with a monthly schedule of matches to let them know which team/player they will play each month. A round robin is played with one match scheduled each month. Play begins in September and ends in April. Marches are scheduled between the players at their mutual convenience and the scheduling can be flexible each month. The designated host player(s) of each month supplies the court and balls. Most clubs waive the guest fee for the EMQ matches. There are over 200 female participants of the Tennis Marathon playing in tennis clubs from Palo Alto to San Jose. While we get new players every season, there are some ladies who have been playing in the Marathon for many, many years. We have two Almaden Doubles groups - Out To Lunch Bunch & Out To Lunch Bunch, Too. These ladies meet once a month, play tennis and then go to lunch together. They also have an EMQ FF Christmas party fundriaser. How we raise funds: Each participant pays a $50 tax deductible donation. In May, at the end of each season, an Awards Luncheon ($30 per participant) is held where we recognize the winners of each group in both the Doubles and Singles Marathon.

Above photo, Paul Ward. Below photo includes Paul at one of the huts with family. L to R: Paul Ward, Bennett Antes, Will Antes, Shelby Diebold, Drew Antes.

Marathon Chairs: Eileen Connolly and Denise Scheaffer (ASRC members) are the Co-Chairs of the Doubles Marathon. Kelly Frazer (AVAC) is the Singles Chair. For more information or to sign up, please call Eileen at (408) 997-1506.

Paul Ward grew up in San Francisco and Burlingame, settled in San Jose, and had a successful technology career in the South Bay working for Eimac, Memorex, and Verbatim. He discovered skiing on his own; his parents did not ski. At age 17 he was at Squaw Valley, watching the 1960 Winter Olympics; a few years later he was working as a weekend ski patroller at Dodge Ridge. He was quick to put his own children on skis; daughter Kerri and son Bryan started when they were two. More recently he was taking his grandchildren to Peter Grubb and Bradley Huts, which inspired the memorial. He and his wife, Lynn, maintained a second home in the Tahoe Donner section of Truckee. He passed away in February 2013 after a short battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Kerri Antes, of San Jose; her husband, Todd; their sons Drew, Will, and Bennett; his son, Bryan; and sisters Laurie Krassilnikoff (San Mateo) and Diane Gartner (Pleasant Hill). “Everything looks great, and we are very happy with the end result. You’ve delivered on everything we’ve asked for and the results are outstanding.”
