NK Floodlit Sports Committee needs new members The current committee has decided to stand down at the end of March 2016 (details were given in the August newsletter), and would love to hear from anyone interested in taking over - not an onerous task- just helping the Parish Council maintain the all-weather courts and the children’s playground, and managing the membership of the courts. There’s plenty of scope too for organising some village events at the courts:- tennis tournaments, netball, 5 a side football etc. And also organising the annual Safari Supper, if there’s a will for it to continue. So please consider stepping out into the floodlights! Contact any of the committee: Dorothy Howie, Julie Fish, Sarah Holmes, Carolyn Sanders, Jane Faulkner, Sally Phillips, Manfred Morris or the Parish Council for more info And if you haven’t joined this year it’s not too late—membership gives you a key to the courts to use whenever you wish. Contact Julie Fish (880304) to join And a date for your diary - the 2016 Safari Supper on 5th March 2016
North Kilworth Rounders Team Brilliant season for the North Kilworth Ladies Rounders Team - we played a total of 12 league games - winning 8 and losing 4, albeit 2 of them were very very close. We are expecting to come 2nd or 3rd in the table. All players played really well, and their ongoing commitment, enthusiasm and support is amazing and stands us in good stead to start next season....I know it's next year but we all know how time flies
Cricket……..Ed Ward, the Wizard of Spin Our second home game arrived on 5th July against Knossington, the side was complete, the weather was perfect and Knossington arrived looking forward to their first game in North Kilworth as we were looking forward to our next game. The ground looked fantastic and we had worked hard to get it ready for them, they won the toss and elected to bat and so the game began. NK bowled well restricting Knossigton with Joe & Huw Phillips opening the bowling once again with some devilish pace and each taking a well deserved wicket, Charlie Roberson then came on and with a good turn of pace kept the run rate down and kept up his high standards with a wicket from a ball getting up slightly coming off the thumb and a reaction catch caught behind the stumps. Joe Renshaw came on and with great accuracy continued to restrict the run rate and taking a wicket, NK’s spirits were high and with contributions from Tommy Renshaw, Adam Moss & Simon Sandercock once again taking a wicket as did Adam and all of them keeping on top of the Knossington batsman. As the batsman got comfortable on came Ed Ward, who with a magical arm and some wizard skittles the tail out with his first hat trick , what a way to finish the batsman off, restricting Knossington to 101 all out we left the field celebrating Ed’s fantastic achievement and proving we could bowl & field well with both Arthur Renshaw, & Scott Weston proving you can field with a pint in your hand. We went in for tea our spirits high, thank you to Sally Phillips & Jane Faulkner for the teas they were superb, the weather was starting to turn but in went Kilworth hoping to repeat the previous performance and hoping desperately not to have to rely on the Hardwick/Richardson method!! (our resident umpires Nick & Bristol Jerry). Our opening batsman went in Joe P & Joe R looking to capitalise on quick singles and build a strong foundation, they lasted at least 2 overs and then in true England style the collapse set in and despite the tail trying to wag with Oli Taylor then Simon Jones & Ed Ward bringing in the tail it was all over far too quickly, all out for 34!!! At least we avoided the Hardwick/Richardson method.. Our tails between our legs we headed off to the club house, the Knossington lads had enjoyed the fixture and keen to come back later we chatted and commiserated with a few beers but all in all a great day & another success in the start of cricket in the village. Thanks to the Sports Club for keeping the bar open & the use of the facilities, the spectators who turned up to support both old & new faces, Mick Faulkner our resident score board operator & groundsman not forgetting of course Nick & Bristol Jerry the umpires. We look ahead to our next game on 16th August and hope that those of you available will come and watch, not forgetting of course the finale Over 40’s vs Under 40’s details to get involved are available form Simon Jones on 07561 103386 or simon.jones7024@yahoo.com.
