Dear TGO Residents, Happy New Year 2026!

The new year is off to a great start. Over the holidays, our grounds team completed a major drainage improvement project, replacing two failed 42” culverts running beneath the golf cart pathway leading to golf holes #7-8 and Buck Lake behind Baytree Drive. This project involved land clearing, relocation of existing utilities, and extensive earthwork using our equipment along with a large rental excavator. I’m proud of what our team accomplished, and I’m confident that during the upcoming rainy season we’ll benefit from this work with reduced flooding in this area and along golf hole #7.

This week, the rental excavator was moved to the other side of the community, through Hammock Oaks, to begin improving drainage along the north entrance to our nature trail. As a result, the north entrance is temporarily closed while this work is underway. Southern sections of the nature trail remain open for your use.

This month also brings a new senior staff member. Meghan Johnson joined our team on Monday as Recreation Manager, replacing Carmella Galley, who will retire at the end of the month. We will dearly miss Carmella, who has been a trusted and hard-working member of my senior team for five years. Meghan joins us from Parrish Health & Fitness and brings extensive experience in management, aquatics, and fitness. She also recently earned her master’s degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation. I look forward to the new ideas and initiatives she will bring to our community. Please stop by The Manor to introduce yourself and welcome Meghan to TGO. You’ll find several interesting articles in this issue of The Happenings, including an introduction to Peter Santenello, a creative YouTube podcaster whose video series offers a unique perspective on different parts of Florida. We also take a closer look at one of our TGO businesses, Trimmers, and its owner, Jennifer Stevenson. In addition, 2026 promises to be an active year for the Space Coast, with numerous space launches planned. You can read more about what’s ahead beginning on page 54.

Finally, this week we held a golf tournament on Thursday to celebrate Golf Pro Chuck Kandt’s eight years with the TGO golf course. I had the opportunity to play in the tournament and participate in celebrating Chuck’s retirement after many accomplishments and successes here at TGO. He will be dearly missed. Garret Howell has now come onboard as our new Golf Professional and, having been well trained by Chuck, is ready to lead.

This is the busiest time of year for TGO and our CSA. In the coming weeks and months, I expect our office will be flooded with support calls, barcode requests, ARC applications, and more. Please be patient when calling or stopping by the office. As always, you may ask to speak with me at the CSA office or contact me by email at manager@tgocsa.org if I can be of direct assistance.

Golf Pro Garret Howell - Strike it Solid Golf is a difficult sport - but why? The ball is just sitting there! It should be easy. The main challenge in golf is that we have to hit the ball directly off the ground. If we could tee up every shot, the game wouldn’t be easy - but it would be much easier.

When the ball is sitting on the turf, there’s a real risk of hitting the ground before the ball. This leads to poor contact, shots that come up short, and twisting of the clubface that sends the ball off line.

So what can we do? Don’t worry - here’s a simple drill to help.

At the range, place a tee on the ground two to two and a half inches in front of the ball, pointing toward your target. Your goal is to sweep the tee off the ground as you swing. If you take a small divot while you hit the tee, great. If you don’t - but you still hit the tee - that works too. The more consistently you strike the tee, the more you’ll see shots that fly straighter and farther!

Peter Santenello’s Florida If you enjoy exploring Florida and discovering its quirky, historic, and lesser-known places, you may enjoy watching Peter Santenello’s YouTube videos - stories that go far beyond the usual tourist traps.

Peter Santenello, born in1977, is an American videomaker, traveler, and documentary storyteller best known for his longform YouTube films that explore places and people often overlooked by mainstream media. Originally from Burlington, Vermont, and educated at the University of Nevada, Santenello has traveled to more than 85 countries, bringing a global perspective to his work. In recent years, he has increasingly focused on lesser-known corners of the United States, with Florida standing out as a recurring subject. His Florida videos go beyond tourist attractions, offering intimate, ground-level looks at historic towns, coastal communities, cultural enclaves, law enforcement ride-alongs, and the stark contrasts between wealth and everyday life. Filming primarily with a GoPro to keep interactions natural and unobtrusive, Santenello’s mission is to show “a world the media fails to capture”- stories told directly by the people who live them.

Florida Sandhill Cranes: Natural History, Current Research, and Living with Cranes Tim Dellinger

Tim Dellinger is a wildlife biologist originally from western North Carolina. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Appalachian State University and an M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources from West Virginia University.

Before joining the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in 2008, Tim worked as a research partner on projects involving northern saw-whet owls in the southern Appalachians, American swallow-tailed kites and short-tailed hawks in Florida, and wood thrush in West Virginia.

Firewise 101: What Is It, How It Works?

You may have heard of Firewise, but how much do you actually know about it? We will talk about where it originated and how it works here in TGO. In this article we will talk about what Firewise USA is and how it got started. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is an international nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property damage, and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards.

As of 2025, the NFPA has over 50,000 members and 10,000 volunteers working with the organization through its 250 technical committees.

The U.S. Forest Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is the nation’s foremost federal forestry organization. This agency is tasked with forest and wildland fire prevention, mitigation, and suppression for all of the 154 national forests and twenty national grasslands. They work in coordination with the state forest service agencies such as the Florida Forest Service in accomplishing the goals of forest/wildland fire prevention, mitigation, and suppression.

The Florida Forest Service is tasked with the protection, mitigation of hazards and management of the forest resources of Florida.

They are an agency of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Here at TGO, we are bordered on the West and South by the Canaveral Marshes Conservation Area, which is managed by the St. Johns River Water Management District and to the north by the St Johns National Wildlife Refuge, which is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. As you can see, there are quite a few agencies that CSA and Firewise interact with in wildfire prevention.

These organizations work together along with local fire departments and communities to keep our forests and wildlands safe from the ravages of fire. In 2002, NFPA determined that the best approach to preventing large wildfires and the accompanying losses was to involve the communities most affected by such events. Firewise USA was the result of that effort.

Exactly what is Firewise USA? It was developed to encourage homeowners to adapt their properties to hopefully reduce their risk of damage during a wildfire. NFPA realized that most localities did not have the manpower or financial resources to do what needed to be done to protect every property, so it encourages homeowners to get involved in protecting their properties. Communities that identify they are in an area in which the threat of a wildfire is of concern create a Firewise USA site and work thru NFPA to become accredited. TGO is a Firewise USA site. To become a Firewise USA site, a community must follow a structured process that includes forming a committee, conducting a wildfire hazard assessment, and implementing a community action plan. In the next edition we will talk more about how it works.

Growing Up With TGO, One Client at a Time For nearly three decades, Jennifer Stevenson has been a familiar and trusted face at The Great Outdoors. As the owner of Trimmers, she has done far more than cut hair - she has grown up alongside the community itself. From a tiny, two-chair seasonal salon to a full-service studio, Jennifer’s story mirrors the evolution of TGO, shaped by long winters, loyal clients, family milestones, and a deep appreciation for the people who choose an RV lifestyle Jennifer with her great grandmother’s cosmetology license and neck brush from 1936. She was unaware her great grandmother was a rooted in adventure, connection, and community. hairstylist until recently. I was born right here in Titusville, at Jess Parrish Hospital. as a teenager.

I went to Astronaut High School and graduated from there. fered cosmetology, and you could finish in a year. I thought, Well… technically, I graduated early. It was 1989, even ‘Well, maybe I’ll do that until I figure out what I want to do though I was supposed to be ’90. I ended up leaving early to with my life.’

And where did you go to beauty school?

I went to Brevard Community College - BCC, as it was called What did you do after you finished school? back then. It’s now Eastern Florida State. Then I decided to move to Seattle, Washington. That’s where my grandparents were from, and it was right there next to the hospital.

What kinds of things did you do in high school? Any sports, really the only place outside Florida where I had family. I wanted to see something different - somewhere with some activities?

I played softball all through high school. I love softball, elevation.

I played up until about three or four years ago. My oldest daughter took up softball too, so I played with her on co-ed teams and adult leagues. I’ve played pretty much my whole life, on and off - all slow pitch.

I also loved riding my moped - I was crazy on that thing, I’d jump up and down curbs - I still have the scars to prove it.

How did that work out?

I walked into salons all over Seattle looking for work, and they basically told me, “If you want to make it here, you need more training.” So I went to an advanced training school connected with a high-end salon chain called Gene Juarez. I did 600 hours just in haircutting.

Did you already know in high school that you wanted to be a hairstylist?

Not exactly, but I always liked having my hair and nails done. My mom and I were really close with her hairstylist,

That’s a lot of training.

It really is. My original cosmetology license was 1,200 hours, and this was another 600 - and I’d already been licensed for about three years at that point. Honestly, when I first gradu-

When you worked for Gwen, did you ever think you’d own the salon?

At first, no. I remember telling her, “This is such a cute little shop - it would be perfect as a starter salon for someone.”

And she said, “Well, do you want to buy it?”

How long did you stay in Seattle?

I told her I didn’t have any money, but we worked out a About a year. Then I realized I really, really love sunlight. The lack of sun affected me more than the rain. I had only ever deal. How many stylists were there at that time?

Florida started looking pretty good again. I came back When I worked for Gwen, she only came in one day a week. with a much greater appreciation for Florida.

I worked the other five. After I bought it, I usually had one other stylist who worked with me during the winter season.

So then what - once you returned?

She worked for Judy Willeke. When park models were being sold, my mom worked with buyers to choose colors and finishes, handled permits, and coordinated getting the homes shipped in. That was her role.

She actually came back later and worked for CSA for like another ten years. She did accounting work and worked closely with Connie Hudson and Lynn Jacobs.

How did your staff grow over the years?

For a long time, I usually had one full-time stylist and maybe part-time. As things grew, I added more stations. Slowing down in the summer gave me time with my kids.

Winter was incredibly busy, and in this industry, if you work at that pace year-round, you burn out. Financially, the cash flow wasn’t always even - it still isn’t - but I learned to appreciate the rhythm.

How long have you been at this location now?

Right around 29 years, which is kind of crazy when you think about it - staying in one place that long.

Tell us a little about your family.

My oldest daughter, Hannah, is from my first marriage - she’s 30 now and teaches middle school Science at Madison middle school and just received Teacher Of The Year for her school and is now in the top six (out of 140 teachers) in the district for that honor. We will find out January 27 if she won for the district.

I had my second daughter, Jenna, in 2003 and my third, Ava, in 2006. Three girls. And now I’m a grandmother and I have three grandkids - one is six, and the other two are three months apart. One is Jenna’s son who is three and Hannah’s youngest is going to turn three in a couple weeks.

Jenna graduated high school with her Associate in Arts college degree but decided to follow her art passion and is now a tattoo artist. Ava also graduated high school with her AA degree and will be done with her Bachelors degree in business this summer - all while working at Salsas Restaurant. I’m super proud of all my girls!!

I do, and I’ve been very fortunate. I got to go to Japan with my youngest daughter - it was an incredible trip. It actually came together unexpectedly after her school trip was canceled, and my niece was already going, so we all went. Japan has such a different culture - very honorable people. I loved that my daughter got to experience a completely different way of life.

Any other memorable trips?

I also went to Norway with my dad.

That’s where my great-grandfather immigrated from, so it was really meaningful to connect with our family heritage.

I got to meet all kinds of family that I didn’t know I had, and then I got connected with some here in the States. It was a phenomenal trip.

What’s on your bucket list for future travel plans?

Let’s see... I would really like to go see the Grand Canyon and places like Bryce and that whole loop in Zion National Park - and more of the Northwest. Plus the Northeast - I haven’t spent any time up there and need to see it.

Shred Day-March 19 Mark Your Calendars!

The Annual Shred At TGO. Here Are The Details You Need To Know 1 Shred Day will take place in the Manor Parking lot on Thursday, March 19, 2026 between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:00pm.

2 We have a rain day set for Friday, March 20, 2026, if we have to cancel the 19th due to weather.

3 If people have old TGO Directories they would like to dispose of, please drop them off at the CSA Office before March 12, 2026 so we can prepare them for shredding.

4 No Early Drop-Offs! All material must be delivered by a resident at or after 1:00pm and must be dropped off before 2:50pm.

5 Material MUST be in “ready to shred” condition. This means residents should not bring file folders, paper clipped material, plastic wraps of folders, plastic bags, etc. If materials are not ready-to-shred, the resident will be asked to step out of line, prepare their materials, and return with material that is suitable for shredding. This will help to keep the line moving.

Chrissy’s Catering Corner: Did you know? It’s that time of year when we decide to lose weight and eat healthy. But, with this chilly weather we are also looking for something comforting to warm our tummy. So let’s keep that in mind with this recipe. Here goes: Broccoli has ‘super food’ status and is actually a part of the cabbage family. Ever eat purple cauliflower? In spite of its name, it’s actually broccoli.

Facts: Broccoli is packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidents. It is classified as a cruciferous vegetable.

That means is has bioactive compounds that reduce cell damage caused by chronic deseases. One cup of raw or steamed broccoli only contains 31 calories and 2.6g of protien (with only 1.3g sugar).

TODAY’S RECIPE: Creamy Broccoli and Cheddar Soup • ½ cup heavy cream • 3 Tbls flour • 4 cups chopped broccoli (frozen or partial steamed) • ½ Tsp fresh or dried thyme • 1 cup cheddar • ½ Tsp nutmeg • 1 cup Mexican blend shredded cheese • 1 ½ cup chopped onion (preferred – or use 2 cups cheddar) • 2 cloves minced garlic • ½ tsp cayenne pepper • 3 cups chicken stock • 4 Tbls butter

Directions: In large pot (Dutch oven) melt 2 tbls butter and sauté onion, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Cook until onions are translucent, add garlic and thyme and cook about 5 minutes (don’t let the garlic brown). Add in flour and cook flour for 2-3 minutes (stirring). Slowly add stock and whisk. Bring to a boil.

Add broccoli and cook until fork tender (about 5 minutes). Add heavy cream and heat through. If you like your soup creamy then puree in small batches or use emulsion blender. Otherwise leave it a little chunky then add the cheese and stir until thoroughly melted. Serve with croutons, cheese or more cooked broccoli on top.

Funny Thing Is… Happy New Year!

If you really want to have a Happy New Year, skip January. Yep, get rid of it. Have you ever noticed that every great Christmas season gets ruined by having January right behind it?

In December the world is festive, singing carols with parties and confections galore. Businesses give their employees bonuses and big holiday parties. People adorn their houses and yards with colorful lights and happy childhood inflatable characters. In December there is so much love in the air, people are kind and generous to each other and up North they even relish the cold and snow as they hope for a white Christmas. Then BOOM. January arrives. What happened? It’s like you’ve just turned the color knob on your TV all the way off. The Christmas decorations come down and suddenly you notice the world has no color. Grass is dead, trees are dead, flowers are dead, but you didn’t notice it last month. Up north, if the snow falls in January, they get really upset. Oh yeah, we had a white Christmas but stop that snowing right now! Yeah, they go from “I hope we have a white Christmas” to “We need to think about moving to Florida” and all they did was flip the calendar one page. People head back to work. Just two weeks earlier they were wishing each other a happy holiday as they left the office and maybe even kissing under the mistletoe and now when they make eye contact they’re thinking “What do you want?” All the joy of shopping and spending all that money in December is suddenly gone as the Christmas cards in your mailbox are replaced by Christmas bills to pay for it. So why can’t we just jump to February after December 31? It’s colorful. Suddenly everywhere you see the colors of red and pink and chocolate brown with roses, candy and other delicious parfaits. February is the month of love which is what we just finished having in December. Think about it. We go from everyone loving each other in December, to nobody loving anything in January, back to everyone loving each other in February. Makes no sense. I say we just skip January and really make it a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Dr. Sammy

Industry leaders and Space Force officials are openly projecting 100 to 120 launches from the Space Coast in a single year - that’s 2 or more a week - a pace that would have been unthinkable just a decade ago. So who’s launching all these rockets, and what exactly are they carrying?

The 100-Launch Reality The Space Coast already set records in 2025, logged at least 109 launches for the first time. What makes 2026 different is this pace is no longer experimental - it’s becoming routine.

Reusable rockets, rapid turnaround times, and a growing demand for satellites have turned Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center into the busiest launch complex on Earth.

What’s Really Inside a SpaceX Starlink Launch?

When a Falcon 9 lifts off from the Space Coast, chances are it’s carrying Starlink satellites - the backbone of SpaceX’s global internet network. Here’s what that actually means.

How Big Is a Starlink Satellite?

Each Starlink satellite is roughly the size of a coffee table. When packed for launch, it measures about nine feet long and five feet wide and is only as thick as a large suitcase. This flat, compact design allows SpaceX to stack many satellites inside a single rocket. Once in orbit, each satellite deploys a large solar panel that provides power for years of operation.

How Many Satellites Are Launched at Once?

A typical Falcon 9 launch from the Space Coast carries between 20 and 23 Starlink satellites. Earlier versions of the satellites were smaller and allowed up to 60 to be launched at once, but newer models are larger, more capable, and designed to handle higher data demands. After release, the satellites slowly spread out and maneuver independently to their assigned positions.

How High Do They Orbit Earth?

Starlink satellites operate in low Earth orbit, approximately 340 to 350 miles above the planet. This is much closer than traditional communications satellites, which orbit tens of thousands of miles away. The lower altitude allows signals to travel faster, reducing lag and improving internet performance for users on the ground How Long Do They Stay in Space?

Starlink satellites are intentionally designed with a limited lifespan of about five years. Rather than remaining in orbit indefinitely, they are guided back into Earth’s atmosphere at the end of their service life, where they burn up completely. This controlled process helps minimize long-term space debris and keeps Earth’s orbital environment safer.

How Do They Move and Steer?

Each satellite is equipped with electric ion thrusters that use argon gas as propellant. These thrusters allow the satellite to raise or lower its orbit, avoid potential collisions, and safely deorbit when its mission is complete. While the thrust is gentle, it is extremely efficient and precise, making it ideal for long-term maneuvering in space.

Artemis II will be the first crewed Artemis mission. It is planned for 2026 and will carry astronauts on a lunar flyby, looping around the Moon without landing.

Why So Many Launches?

Starlink is designed as a constellation rather than a handful of individual satellites. Thousands are required to provide continuous global coverage, and older satellites are routinely replaced with newer, more advanced versions. The World’s Outpost...

The International Space Station When a rocket arcs across the Space Coast sky carrying astronauts, chances are they’re headed to the International Space Station, commonly known as the ISS. It’s often mentioned in headlines, yet surprisingly few people know exactly what it is, who owns it, or what actually happens up there.

The ISS is a permanently crewed laboratory orbiting Earth about 250 miles above the surface. Traveling at roughly 17,500 miles per hour, it circles the planet once every 90 minutes, meaning astronauts aboard experience sunrise and sunset about sixteen times a day. From the ground, the station often appears as a bright, fast-moving point of light, silently crossing the night sky.

Physically, the ISS is enormous. With its solar arrays fully extended, it spans about the length of a football field and weighs close to one million pounds. Despite its size, it floats effortlessly in microgravity, held in orbit by its speed rather than supported by anything beneath it. It is one of the most complex structures ever built by human hands - and it was assembled entirely in space.

Unlike most space projects, the ISS is not owned by any single nation. It is a joint effort involving five major space agencies representing fifteen countries. The United States, through NASA, and Russia, through Roscosmos, are the largest partners. They are joined by the European Space Agency, which represents eleven European nations, along with Japan and Canada. Each partner owns specific modules and contributes funding, hardware, or astronauts. The station functions as a shared asset, governed by international agreements rather than national borders.

Since the year 2000, the ISS has been continuously occupied by humans. At any given time, six or seven astronauts live aboard the station...

Construction of the ISS began in 1998 and took more than a decade to complete. Instead of launching as one piece, it was built module by module. Russian rockets and American space shuttles delivered pressurized living spaces, laboratories, trusses, and solar panels into orbit. Astronauts conducted dozens of spacewalks to connect components, install wiring, and bring the station to life. It was, quite literally, a construction site in orbit.

Since the year 2000, the ISS has been continuously occupied by humans. At any given time, six or seven astronauts live aboard the station, rotating in and out on missions that typically last about six months. Crews come from many nations,

reflecting the station’s international nature. Today, most astronauts travel to and from the ISS aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft, launched from Kennedy Space Center, while cargo missions regularly deliver food, equipment, and experiments.

Life aboard the ISS is carefully structured. Astronauts float through the station rather than walk, sleeping in small crew quarters tethered to the walls. They exercise about two hours a day to counteract muscle and bone loss caused by long-term weightlessness. Every aspect of daily life - eating, sleeping, working - must be adapted to a gravity-free environment.

The primary purpose of the ISS is scientific research. The station serves as a unique laboratory where experiments can be conducted in microgravity, conditions impossible to replicate on Earth. Research focuses on human health, materials science, fluid behavior, plant growth, and medical technologies. Many of these studies have direct benefits on Earth, leading to improvements in medical treatments, water purification systems, and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Power for the station comes from massive solar arrays that convert sunlight into electricity. Life-support systems recycle air and water, including moisture from breath and perspiration, making long-term habitation possible. While remarkably self-sufficient, the station still depends on regular resupply missions to remain operational.

Beyond its scientific value, the ISS serves as a testing ground for future exploration. Long-duration missions help scientists understand how the human body responds to extended time in space - knowledge that will be critical for future journeys to the Moon and Mars. Just as importantly, the ISS stands as a rare example of sustained international cooperation, even during periods of political tension on Earth.

Current plans call for the International Space Station to remain operational until about 2030. When its mission ends, the station will be carefully guided back into Earth’s atmosphere, where it will burn up over the ocean in a controlled descent.

By then, NASA hopes commercial space stations will take its place, continuing research in low Earth orbit.

The Space Station Has Lots Of Plans For 2026

The International Space Station will remain busy in 2026, with multiple planned visits carrying astronauts from several nations. These missions continue a routine that has kept the station continuously inhabited for more than two decades.

One of the key missions is SpaceX Crew-12, a regular crew rotation flight operated by NASA and SpaceX. The mission is currently targeted for no earlier than mid-February 2026 and will launch aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft from Kennedy Space Center.

Crew-12 will transport four astronauts to the station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The crew includes NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot, and a Russian cosmonaut representing Roscosmos. Once aboard, they will join Expeditions 75 and 76, continuing research, maintenance, and daily station operations.

In addition to U.S. launches, Russia’s Soyuz program will continue its long-standing role in supporting the ISS. In June 2026, NASA astronaut Anil Menon is scheduled to launch aboard a Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Menon’s flight reflects ongoing cooperation between NASA and Roscosmos, allowing astronauts from different nations to fly on each other’s spacecraft. His mission will involve several months aboard the station, supporting scientific research and operational duties.

Crews flown by private companies may dock at the station for research projects, technology demonstrations, or limited commercial activities. While exact dates and crews are still being finalized, these missions represent a growing shift toward a mixed government-and-commercial presence in space.

Taken together, these flights confirm that astronauts will continue traveling regularly to the International Space Station throughout 2026. Government crews, international partners, and private visitors will all play a role, reinforcing the ISS’s status as a shared laboratory and a stepping-stone toward the next era of human space exploration.

When conditions are right, it can be seen with the naked eye for several minutes as it silently crosses overhead. Many people have seen it without realizing what it was.

The ISS Has Hosted Over 260 Visitors From 20 Countries Since its first crew, the ISS has welcomed more than 260 people from 20 different nations. For many astronauts, it represents not only their first trip to space, but their first time working and living in such a tightly international environment.

The Architectural Review Committee meets for planning purposes on the Plantation Manor Porch at 10:00am on Monday, January 19, 2026.

All changes to your property that are visible on the outside require advance approval from the Architectural Review Committee. Application forms and ARC Guidelines may be obtained from the Community Services Association office or printed from The Great Outdoors Community Services Association website at www.tgocsa.org. All completed ARC forms must be submitted to the CSA office by Noon on the Wednesday before the next Wednesday meeting. Results will be available to pick up after the ARC meeting or from the CSA Office.

Be sure ALL necessary paperwork is included with your ARC application. No approval will be given without having all the required data available at the ARC Meeting for review.

The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) will provide owners with a clear understanding of what is allowed and when ARC approval is needed. Gaining ARC approval is facilitated through a responsive process that is easy to use.

The ARC Guidelines and Application Form are available for download at TGOCSA.org or you can also pick up an application in the CSA Office Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. Applications must be submitted to the CSA Office by 12:00 Noon on the Wednesday prior to the following Wednesday meeting date to be considered at that meeting.

The ARC is elected by property owners. ARC has eleven members, ten elected from representative districts and one elected by the whole membership to serve as chairman. Each ARC term is two years. Districts are determined by the last number of each address (ex: 324 Plantation would be District 4).

CSA Trash Pick Up Rules

The CSA crew picks up household trash 364 days of the year (off for Christmas). You’ll see them in a big truck pulling one or more green hoppers behind it. The guy crouching on the hopper grabs your trash bag as they pass by. To make the process efficient, please follow these rules: • Trash must be placed in plastic bags that are tied closed.

Lightweight bags should be tied together. Trash that is not in plastic bags may not be picked up.

• Break down all boxes and put all packing material in a closed bag.

• Place trash within one foot of the road so it’s within easy reach.

• Dispose of your pet’s waste inside the closed trash bag.

• Put trash out at the curb by 10:00am - Pick-up time varies within the park.

• Do not mix household trash with organic yard debris or construction materials.

• Do not put trash out at night because by morning it will have been scattered by wild animals.

• Also, be aware that if you place your trash out on the street too early, the vultures think you have prepared them a sack lunch!

CSA Yard Debris Pick-Up Rules

The CSA crew picks up organic yard debris at least once per week. Tree trimmings should be cut down to a maximum of 4 feet long, weigh less than 50 pounds, and be stacked uniformly at the curb. Loose material such as pine needles, leaves and small twigs must be collected in untied plastic bags or open containers. The CSA will not pick up sod, dirt, tree stumps, construction material (e.g., concrete, wood, drywall, metal), chemicals (e.g., paint, oil), major appliances, or tires. DO NOT bring these items to the CSA Maintenance Yard yourself. They may be dropped off, without charge, at the Brevard County Mockingbird Mulching Facility - 321-264-5009. Most other waste items such as carpet, porcelain plumbing fixtures, etc., that are not mentioned above can be dropped off at the Brevard County Transfer Station 321-264-5048.

The Nature Center Is Looking For A Treasurer After serving as Treasurer for The Nature Center for many years, Loretta Anne’ is stepping down for her role.

We thank Loretta for her dedication, and she will continue to support The Nature Center in various other ways.

We are seeking volunteers to fill her position, effective immediately. Volunteers must be members in good standing (e.g., be a current member of The Nature Center). Clearing Vegetation on CSA Property

Our Declaration of Covenants states that “No CSA land may be cleared of any vegetation without prior written permission from the Board of Directors or its designee. Unauthorized clearing of CSA property will result in a hearing, with possible fines and ordered replanting.” This only makes sense, as you would not cut vegetation on someone else’s property without permission first. In order to track this better, we will require anyone seeking permission to cut vegetation on CSA property to fill out an ARC permit. An approved permit must include the CSA manager’s signature, and a copy of the permit will be filed in your ARC file for documentation purposes.

Traffic Infraction Committee Opening They are looking for a committee member. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 2:00pm to hear any appeals involving traffic violations that have been written during the previous month by the CSA Patrol.

AED Basics (Automated External Defibrillator)

The CSA has a contract with Spectrum that includes Spectrum TV Select and Spectrum Internet services. If you are experiencing problems with their service or need to set up a new service, call the number above. Tell them your community at The Great Outdoors has a bulk agreement known as the Bronze Package.

TGO Community Channel 732 Our television channel of the Community Services Association will be active for broadcasting board meetings. Your TV must be equipped with a Spectrum TV cable box or digital adapter.

Turf Masters regularly applies spray applications to our lawns and common areas that includes an herbicide for weed control, a liquid fertilizer, a granular nitrogen fertilizer and an insecticide to kill chinch bugs, and other turf-damaging insects.

Turf Masters is also offering “service-call” visits to TGO. If you are still having problems with lawn pests or weeds, call the CSA Office at 321-268-9767, and we will put your address on the Turf Masters list.

Application dates are scheduled for January 12-14.

Turf Masters advises all TGO residents to stay off treated areas of your lawn, and to keep your pets off treated areas, until the application has thoroughly dried.

Guide to Living With Alligators in TGO

There are 32 lakes in The Great Outdoors and all of them are home to alligators. Please keep these points in mind to be safe when alligators could be nearby:

• It is illegal to feed, taunt or harass an alligator.

• Do not swim or wade in any of our lakes.

• Do not walk near the shorelines and do not walk your pets near the shoreline.

• Do not allow your pets to swim, exercise or drink in or near our lakes.

• While alligators can be active at any time, they are most active between dusk and dawn and move during the night to different water sources.

• Please give our alligators the respect and space they deserve.

NOTE: If you come across an aggressive alligator, please contact the CSA Office prior to SNAP and allow us to handle any situation.

Have Someone Call 9-1-1 While You Operate AED The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses incorrect heart rhythm patterns that could potentially be life threatening. The device treats the condition with electrical shocks.

AED use requires minimal training because an electronic voice prompts the user through each step. If you are helping a person who collapsed and you’re unsure if a heart attack is the reason, don’t hesitate to use the AED. Every minute counts.

The device determines if the patient needs an electrical shock or not. Simply place the AED pads on the patient’s bare skin, one on the right upper chest and the other on their lower left side. No one else should be touching the patient because false readings could result. The AED will advise you, the device operator, what to do next.

Here’s a brief look at the generations that have shaped - and continue to shape - our society

The Greatest Generation (1901 - 1927)

Often described as defined by sacrifice and perseverance, this generation lived through the Great Depression and fought in World War II. Shared hardship fostered strong community bonds, civic responsibility, and a belief in collective effort. Their experiences helped shape many modern institutions and postwar prosperity.

The Silent Generation (1928 - 1945)

Raised during economic uncertainty and global conflict, the Silent Generation is known for valuing stability, discipline, and hard work. Many came of age during the early Cold War years, favoring conformity and loyalty to institutions. They played a key role in building postwar families, neighborhoods, and workplaces.

Baby Boomers (1946 - 1964)

Born during the population surge following World War II, Baby Boomers experienced unprecedented economic growth and social change. This generation witnessed the civil rights movement, the space race, and major cultural shifts. Their influence has shaped politics, business, and culture for decades.

Generation X (1965 - 1980)

Millennials / Generation Y (1981 - 1996)

Generation Z (1997 - 2012)

Generation Alpha (2013 - 2025)

Generation Beta (2026 to TBD)

The generation expected to follow Generation Alpha is commonly referred to as Generation Beta, with projected birth years beginning around 2026. While the name is still unofficial, it follows the Greek alphabet sequence that began with Generation Alpha, marking a new era of generational naming. Unlike earlier generations defined by past events, Generation Beta is being identified in advance and is expected to grow up in a world shaped by advanced artificial intelligence, automation, climate adaptation, and rapidly evolving digital environments.
