Step/ Paso 1

4 Large wavy popsicle sticks, 4 popsicle sticks, glitter, white acrylic paint, ribbon, glue

Day of the dead is a time to celebrate a passed one's life Roots can be traced back to the earliest Aztec people that’s now central Mexico The catholic church moved the rituals, and celebrations that honor the dead to what we know as catholic dates of All Saints Day and All Souls Day on November 1 & 2 This is known as Dia de los Muertos on November 2 The same happened on November 1 to celebrate and honor children who have passed This is known as El dia de los Angelitos (Day of the Little Angels) Traditions people do to celebrate are to build altars in their homes with ofrendas

El día de los muertos es un momento para celebrar la vida de un difunto. Las raíces más antiguas se remontan a los primeros pueblos aztecas que ahora se encuentran en el centro de México. La iglesia católica trasladó los rituales y celebraciones que honran a los muertos a lo que conocemos como las fechas católicas actuales del Día de Todos los Santos y el Día de los Difuntos el 1 y 2 de noviembre. Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookies!

Galletas Crujientes de Menta y Chocolate!

Ingredients:

2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped

1 cup all purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp kosher salt

2 large eggs, room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/4 tsp peppermint extract

1 oz. semisweet chocolate

crushed peppermint candies for sprinkling

2 oz. chocolate sin azucar, finamente picado

1 vaso harina de todo proposito

1 cucharilla de polvo para hornear

1/4 cucharilla de sal

2 huevos grandes, temperatura ambiente

1/4 vaso aceite vegetal

1/4 cucharilla de extracto de menta

STEP 1 : In a small heatproof bowl, microwave unsweetened chocolate in 15 second intervals, stirring in between, let cool

En un tazón pequeno resistente al calor, calienta en el microondas el chocolate sin azucar en intervalos de 15 segundos, dejar enfriar un poco

STEP 2 : In a small bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl whisk eggs sugar, and oil until combined. Add in the dry ingredients until fully incorporated. Cover and refrigerate until firm but scoopable

Jose earned a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

The non profit organization has incubated nearly 900 food based businesses over the last 6 years through the Kitchen Network and has led the effort to create a safe and walkable commercial destination that supports local businesses. Jose leads the BuCu West team in working with partners, leading community outreach, and researching best practices. His leadership guides decision making and implementation of programs to create equitable economic development and serve community need

Youth Leadership Award

Hey! My name is Tristan Zantua. I am an 18-year-old freshman attending the Community College of Denver, majoring in Biology to pursue a career in dentistry. I was born in the Philippines and raised in a small city called Las Piñas My family immigrated to Colorado from the Philippines in 2012 I enjoy the outdoors regardless if it's high up in the mountains or the depths of the sea, I am always ready for an adventure

I also enjoy being a leader in the community Whether it is volunteering or writing articles for Southwest Vida, I find the greatest fulfillment in helping others in my community, especially the youth I joined in February and ever since I have been motivated to create a difference in the Southwest Denver community The team in Southwest Vida has been remarkable to work with and I have made so many new friends. I am very excited to be a part of the Southwest Vida family.

My name is Maria Alvarado, I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico and I have lived in Denver Colorado for more than 20 years I fell in love with my husband here and I have 6 wonderful children I really enjoy spending time with my family, especially when we go camping and visit other states like California and visit Disneyland I came to the US for better job opportunity and better living as it is difficult in Mexico. I have learned a lot from the community I live in and have looked for opportunities to volunteer in my community and help people
