ack in 2011 when Kimberli Fanucci named her salon after her oldest son, the teenager rolled his eyes. Today, as an adult and father, Austin James appreciates that his mother’s successful business bears his name. Austin James Hair Studio has grown to 14 stylists and specializes in all hair services, with a focus on color and extensions. The popular salon celebrated a significant milestone this May when it became a L’ANZA Healing Center. Sold in 40 countries around the world, L’ANZA products use organic ingredients, including natural, wild-crafted, hand-selected botanicals. “In the world of doing hair, we are a chemical-driven industry,” says Stylist/Owner Kimberli Fanucci. “We need chemicals to do what we do, so I’ve always looked for the safest of the products out there.” After being invited by L’ANZA to attend a threeday meeting in California about becoming one of the company’s healing centers, Kimberli came home and did due diligence in her own research about the family-owned and -operated company.

The more she learned about L’ANZA, the more impressed she became. Safety was the No. 1 appeal of L’ANZA, followed by the high quality of their products. “It’s the safest and also the only hair color on the market that will heal the hair after every color service,” she notes. “The color has minimal fading and lasts longer than other colors. They say, ‘Flowers don’t fade in the sun, neither should your hair color.’” L’ANZA uses organic, plant-based ingredients to create their products, many of which are vegan. This detail is very important to clients who prefer a vegan product line.

INGREDIENTS MATTER “Many people aren’t aware that the FDA does not regulate the beauty industry,” notes Kimberli. “Whether it’s hair care or skin care, there are no regulations on those products. Right now, there are over 2,500 known carcinogenic ingredients in hair care products. They’re just labeled as ‘fragrance,’ so they’re allowed to use them. One of these is petroleum, which is found in breast cancer tumors; yet it’s in our hair care and skin care products. “Some of the chemicals we put in our products in the U.S. aren’t even allowed in some other countries,” she adds. “The scary part is that once something touches your skin, it’s
