The editor in chief’s word

EDITOR LETTER We live in a special time - a period of transformation. War has come to our house. But as history shows, any crisis is an impetus for progress. An opportunity to review our values, beliefs and principles. The current situation faced by our generation exposes the thin and fragile, giving the opportunity to become stronger. Just as fire and water temper steel, changing the crystal lattice of matter, so a person changes at the inner level. They say bad times become good memories. Having filled the issue with interesting content, we are gradually making changes to the design of the Home and Interior magazine itself. This issue is special in every way and from every angle. Therefore, we wish you, as well as ourselves, to keep up with the times, be open to innovations and fill life with bright colors. «Everything will be Ukraine» Chief Editor of the magazine House and Interior. Interview

YORK ARCHITECTS

INTERVIEW WITH THE WINNER OF THE GRAND PRIX OF THE COMPETITION «INTERIOR OF THE YEAR» 2021 ROMAN

What was the most difficult part of creating the space? When designing a house, taking into account the peculiarities of the landscape and preserving the trees. In the interior - subordinating all the decisions in the interior outside the window. And also making the forest the dominant element in the interior. How different is the project idea from the implementation? Has it been implemented? The interior was created throughout the implementation process. Therefore, the decisions laid down, at first changed a little. But we always found a compromise with the customer. Therefore, we can assume that all the ideas were implemented. Tell us about the moments that remained behind the scenes of the competition? The day of the final of the competition, our studio turned three years old. Colleagues celebrated in the office when we received the award. It was an unexpected event, so the celebration took on new colors. What can you say about the level of work of other participants represented in the competition? High level of projects. A lot of new faces in the design please me. What are the trends in architecture and design that we should expect in 2022 to your mind? Continuation of tendencies of coming closer to nature. Development of «smart» and «green» technologies and their deeper integration into architecture at different levels. What advice would you give to designers who will take part in the Interior 2022 competition? Experiment! Strive to create something innovative and new, regardless of the area of the object or the budget for its implementation.

Blitz: If Hollywood decided to make a film about your life, whom would you choose to star? Colin Farrell If you could invite any artist to dinner, who would you choose and why? Banksy If you were a car, what brand? Toyota Who is smarter: cats or dogs? Dolphins What songs are most often stuck in your head? Jingle Bells

Plan-scheme

The Villa West project is the story of how MASA architects turned an abandoned sports school building in Rotterdam into an elegant and spacious home. The sports school was built in the 1940s during World War II and later served as a radio station and kindergarten. It was

planned to be demolished, but standing at the front door and looking straight into the building, - the client says, - I realized that this abandoned and dilapidated building could become cozy home. Both the architects and the customer were impressed and inspired by the “rough beauty” of the bare walls of the space that opened up in front of them and unanimously decided not only to preserve the authentic features of the original building, but also to highlight them.

48

Private interior

Concrete structures for the spans of the gym visually increased the volume and emphasized the interior. Dividing it into separate rooms, while maintaining the original scale, was not easy. An intriguing visual continuity of the space was created thanks to non-standard furniture elements that were used instead of ordinary partitions. These custom-made headsets designed by MASA architects do not touch the ceiling. The remaining distance is filled with a glass or mirror surface. This approach allowed the original ceiling to “cut through” the entire interior, while at the same time sufficiently isolating the rooms.

The boundaries of the interior space blend seamlessly into the exterior of the building thanks to large solid glass windows. In good weather, this is especially noticeable. The windows can be lifted electrically from the floor up so that the interior connects seamlessly with the terrace and the tall bamboo that surrounds it. These windows are a new technology from a Dutch firm that is still used in office buildings. Blinds in the upper half of the windows protect residents from the views of neighbors. Hiroki Matsuura placed open living spaces on one side and two bedrooms behind bamboo partitions on the other. They don’t have handles, they don’t have instructions. It is not always possible to immediately guess whether you are opening a kitchen cabinet or entering one of the bedrooms. Finally finding the entrance to the bedroom, you pass through a tunnel-like space lined with bamboo panels.

The laconic architecture of the building, the pristine beauty of the raw materials and the space filled with light became the starting point in the work on the project. One of the goals pursued by the architects was to create a comfortable living environment around the building by reusing materials and adapting its design to a state that is comfortable for living. The sustainability of the project was ensured by the resources already available, avoiding unnecessary waste. The new metal façade made it possible to preserve the open masonry of the walls and maintain a comfortable temperature in the interior.

The task: to create a minimalist house that will dedicate its life to contemplation of nature. Futago: one heartbeat for two The house consists of two identical parts: these are our twin brothers, who, proudly raising their console heads, look into each other’s eyes.

30,000 tons of soil - and they rise above the landscape like mute observers dividing one heartbeat into two. «This house has become a continuation of nature and vice versa its opposition. Futago is a blank sheet of paper in which tons of concrete, glass, passion and the power of the human spirit have merged. All in order to admire the beauty around and learn to see the beauty inside, «- says the founder of the studio, architect Serhii Makhno.

Type: private house Area: 5,000 square meters. | Location: Kyiv, Ukraine | Architects: Serhii Makhno, Oleksandr Kovpak, Illia Tovstonog, Olha Sobchyshyna, Maryna Hrechko

Challenges The location encouraged us to do everything possible to make the landscape from the windows the main highlight of the project. To do this, we extracted 30,000 tons of soil and raised both parts of the house to a height of five meters. So we got rid of obstacles on the horizon to fully enjoy the landscape. The monolith of the house was poured from 20 tons of concrete. The principal decision was to order the material from a Ukrainian manufacturer, because the logistics of concrete are complex and unenvironmental, especially in such sizes. And when the windows became walls, and the doors had to reach almost five meters in height, the magic happened - in Odessa, a separate collection of double-glazed windows was opened exclusively for the Futago project, each weighing one ton. “We have built this project to break all existing frameworks. There are no problems that cannot be solved. There are no projects that cannot be implemented. Futago is a clear example of this, ”says Olha Sobchyshyna, the studio’s chief engineer.

60

Private interior

Interior The interior of one of the twins is still in the process of implementation, so we will show only one of them inside - the one to the left of the main entrance to the territory. It is intended for owners, the second - for guests. Both have similar layouts and an area of 2,500 square meters. Living room The living room greets by panoramic windows 4.5 meters high and landscapes stretching for eight kilometers. Impeccable white serves as a canvas for author’s design strokes. On the ceiling there is a one-and-a-half-ton water heater lamp by Serhii Makhno. Right on - a blue kitchen with a countertop to cook and eat without taking your eyes off the surrounding landscapes. Concrete and white spiral staircases wind from minus first floor to the bedrooms. The greenery outside moved into the house. The boundaries between external and internal are blurred. The living room becomes part of the landscape.

American bar The American bar is a hiding place on the ground floor, where the urgent matters, endless meetings and notifications of messengers won’t find the owners. Spin in a dance to Jimi Hendrix’s blues solos, prepare author’s cocktails, forget about life «from the outside», enjoy. one button on the tablet in the system «Smart Home» is responsible for real LED show on the ceiling, and for textured jazz - RIPPLE, author’s tile by Serhii Makhno on the bar.

Bedrooms Each bedroom has a separate dressing room. All of them are united by a single concrete line, but each has its own color: from caramel-sand to dark copper. Day and night bedroom Concrete walls, milk colors, modern Ukrainian art and panoramic windows are the perfect match. The main accent in the room is the author’s sculptures “Day and Night” by Serhii Makhno as a symbol of the eternal choice between black and white, darkness and light. This room is made special by an additional line of windows with a promising view. Everyone sees in it what he wants to see.те, що хоче.

A ceramic DIDO by Serhii Makhno is on guard - he makes sure that the owners don’t forget to turn off the phone, and protects their sleep. In every part of the house there is an attribute of the name FUTAGO. In this bedroom there are twin vases that remind us that the power of two is infinite. Twilight Bedroom Automatic black-out blinds allow you to turn on the night in the middle of a hot day, if you want to forget about the sun for an hour. Hidden lamps on the ceiling resemble Maasdam. However, the appearance can be deceptive - if it’s the surface of the moon?

Plan-scheme

Maristella is a 320 m2 apartment located in Odessa on the first shoreline. The main decoration of the space was the panorama of the Black Sea. The apartment was designed by the Balbek Bureau for a young family. The geometry of the apartment

resembles a sea shell: it narrows in the entrance and extends to the panoramic windows. The architects separated the apartment: areas that do not require direct sunlight are located at the entrance, and the kitchen and living room are as open and spacious as possible. The bedroom in this apartment was not separated from the main volume. It is separated from other zones by a podium. In the rise we brought communications to the bath-shower and washbasin, which stand alone.

70

Private interior

The project was implemented for three years. This period was influenced by many factors, the main of which were the dependence of work on the season and the pursuit of the ideal. The team did not focus on fleeting trends, so the project uses concise solutions and timeless design elements. The heart of the project was the panorama of the sea. This is how the architects saw the «perfect picture» for life. The main accents in the visual solution were shifted to the natural background outside the window and did not overload it with complex structures and large elements.

The apartment is divided into several functional zones: kitchen and living room, bedroom, wardrobe, two bathrooms, laundry, utility room, guest bedroom, children’s room, entrance hall, terrace of 75 m2 and a balcony. A smart home system has been set up for the apartments. It optimizes the management of ventilation, heating, security and lighting. The interior is decorated in a minimalist style, as evidenced by clear lines, restraint in decor and forms. A special component in the project was the white floor, which covers about 70% of the area. It was made of BAXAB material, resistant to scratches and dirt, under which the underfloor heating system was installed. Most of the ceiling in the apartment is made of open concrete. All communications were laid in places covered with plasterboard. The color design of the project is dominated by neutral and natural shades that resonate with the colors of the sea. Thanks to open planning, the seascape seems to continue the indoor area.

Private interior

The house, which was developed and implemented by Nottdesign, stands among buildings of various sizes, the area of the site is small, so it is not visible from the street. One of the main requirements of the customer for the interior is three bedrooms. The windows in the house face south, some of them open to the patio. They help illuminate the hallway, kitchen and bathroom.

In the center of the house there is a studio divided into a living room, a dining room and an entrance hall with access to the terrace. The kitchen is located in a small niche, which is formed by the volume of the patio and utility room. The utility room can be entered from the kitchen and the street.

Sitting on the sofa in the living room, you can see the sky, because under the ceiling of the kitchen and utilities room, a window stretches along the outer back wall. In order not to block it with internal partitions, the architects did not bring them up to the ceiling, and the resulting gap was glazed. The color scheme of the interior combines the colors of natural materials - wood and porcelain stoneware - with several black accents.

DMITRY GREK THE TASTE FOR THE INTERIOR IS BROUGHT UP. THE TURN WILL COME TO ART.

Author: Maryna Pylypenko

ONCE UPON A TIME SCULPTURE WAS A MANDATORY PART OF THE INTERIOR OF ANY SELF-SECURING HOUSE. TODAY’S WORLD OF DESIGN IS NOT SO CATEGORIC TO THE DECOR. BUT THIS IS NOT A REASON TO GIVE UP ON SCULPTURE IN THE LIVING ROOM. UKRAINIAN SCULPTURE DMITRY GREK TOLD THE «HOUSE AND INTERIOR» MAGASINE WHAT THIS KIND OF ART GIVES US, HOW THE SCULPURE IS BUILT AND WHICH CHANGES WE CAN SEE IN THE DESIGN OF UKRAINIAN INTERIORS IN THE 21 S T C E N T U R Y .

Is sculpture important at home? Everything, of course, depends on the owner. Those who have always lived without sculpture feel good without it. And for those who have discovered in themselves an interest in the knowledge of art, it will be difficult. It’s like giving up literature or cinema. It’s cool, interesting, it inspires and develops a person! Sculpture is one of the sides of our life. By remaining uneducated in this area, we are ignoring an important facet of the world.

You can often hear from people: “I don’t understand anything in art.” What does this mean for sculpture? What is it like to «understand sculpture»? Sculpture contemplation is a skill. Yes, some people can intuitively understand meanings. As in the case of innate musical ear. But in general, this skill is brought up and trained. I never thought about it before, but now I drew parallels. There is a lot of literature in which the writer himself is discussed: what he intended, what meanings he retained. At school we write essays dedicated to the creative concept of the author of a particular work. The situation is the same with sculpture. It is necessary to make everything clear, to explain the idea of the author.

Interview

My sculptures always contain personal experiences that I captured in them. There are whole stories behind some of the works. Why was it made and in what way? I may not tell these stories, this is a secret. But by the name of the sculpture, some sensitive people can guess. This is an interesting puzzle. But to unravel it, you need attention and a special state. After all, when a person reads on the run, he will not really understand anything! It is the same with sculpture: you need the right environment, light. These are very important things for understanding. Therefore, to contemplate the sculpture, you need to prepare, tune in the right way. Personal exhibitions of artists help a lot in this regard. Here the author shares his findings and ideas, shows how to build a dialogue between the works and the viewer and answers questions. What sculptures are in your house? All of my works are in my studio. There they are born and have their own way. Again, I will draw a parallel with literature. It is known that a writer never writes straight away. He proofreads the text, crosses out, changes words, phrases and rewrites. Also, the sculptures at the stage of production must stand for a while like wine. I work mainly in clay and plasticine. I wrap it up so that the material doesn’t dry too much, periodically I take it out, redo it, sometimes I show it to someone. And so on until an inner feeling is born that the work is ready.от эскизов до заливки в бронзу. Кстати, многие считают, что финальный этап – самый простой. Но это не так. Он также отнимает

Interview

In my workshop you can find sculptures at various stages of the process, from sketches to casting into bronze. By the way, many people think that the final stage is the easiest. But it’s not. It also takes a lot of time and effort and requires creativity. Here it is necessary to ensure that the sculpture does not change in the process, because each technical stage can bring its own nuances. Is there some global advice: how to choose a sculpture for the interior? There must be some kind of love between a person and a particular sculpture, such a point of contact. You should not just buy, but derive pleasure from the contemplation of this work, enjoy it.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing for a young artist, designer, architect to become successful in the profession? The most important thing is not to lose the desire to make art. Everyone has their own path, their own mistakes. There is no universal right way. I graduated from high school in difficult economic times. Then people were not yet satisfied with gypsum interiors, suspended ceilings. Art took the last place. Now I see how the situation is changing. Previously, among architects there was a fashion for uncolourful minimalism, when the technology itself formed the style and principle of interior construction. Everywhere there was drywall, corners, they were polished and that’s it. Further it came only to furniture and painting. And now it’s much more texture. This is an incomparably richer and broader approach. I am very pleased with this situation. It’s nice to come to new cafes, drink coffee there, because it’s cool. Designers have a taste for living in the interior. Together with them, the taste for the interior is brought up, the taste for the interior is growing among consumers. I’m sure the turn will come to art. Soon, much more people will understand and appreciate it.

The main wish of Natalia Bolshakova, both the author and the customer of this project, was space, which was lacking in many apartments. It was the designer’s first house that she created for herself and her family, so the work on the project was very emotional. The result of the work was a country house in a modern style, where integrity and harmony with the environment formed the basis of design.

NATALIA OLEKSIENKO OLEKSIENKO ARCHITECTS Tell us about your daily routine. The first thing is health, so a set of simple but very energetic exercises is the rule to start each day. When the phone is still silent, I like to sketch over a cup of tea. And then - meetings, workshop, facilities and, of course, an evening with the family. In your work, do you adapt to the customer or does he have to adapt to you? We create an architecture that sets us and the customer on the same wavelength: new sensations, intuition, inspiration. What role does the team play in your work? How do you choose people for the team? In architecture, serious achievements without a team are impossible. We are not afraid to set high goals, which can be met only by professionals who are passionate about their work. There are no others in our workshop. Each employee has three simple requirements: to share the values of the workshop, to constantly learn, to love architecture. Your professional dream? I dream of materials and technologies that will allow architecture to be torn off the ground. Which city is a must-see for a novice architect? The city with the clearest visual connections between historic landmarks and modern buildings is London. But you can and should start with the city where you live, just start looking at him as an architect. In which city would you like to implement your project? Why? You know, it’s not a city, it’s mountains. I am very attracted to complex reliefs. Therefore, a house in the mountains is the best creative challenge for me.

What cuisine do you prefer? Where and what do you like to eat? I love inventing myself. I never cook according to a recipe, I even have my own author’s dishes in stock. I love it when cooking turns into spontaneous creativity. When I travel, I try to taste the most typical dishes of the region, touch the traditions, taste them. How do you rest? My recipe is this: barefoot on warm sand, then on wet grass, then some sun, further in the shade by a tree, take a dip in a forest lake twice, and all this with friends and family. What have you wanted to try for a long time, but haven’t decided yet? Go sailing with a team of children in the Mediterranean. We would call at different ports in different cities, get acquainted with the architecture of different countries, then go out to sea, discuss our impressions and sail further - to new discoveries. What music (artist) plays in your headphones while you work? I lost my headphones in the tenth grade, since then no one gave me them, I had to listen to the sounds of life. I really liked this effect. Probably, with headphones, my architecture would be musical, but in this way it reflects life itself, where, of course, there is a place for beautiful music, though without preferences, everything depends on the mood.

If Hollywood decided to make a movie about your life, who would you choose to play the lead role?

If you are a car, what brand? «Tesla»

Meryl Streep. If someone wrote a biographical book about you, what would be the title? «In Search of Magical Architecture or a Fairy for the Modern Cinderella». It would be a trilogy about how miracles are possible if they are well designed. If you could invite any artist to dinner, who would it be and why? Lunch with my favorite director and that’s the legendary Quentin Tarantino. Only nine films were released, but each of them is an event, an explosion in cinema. I would like to know how he went through such a shocking and at the same time verified path.

Which songs get stuck in your head the most? It is unlikely that Dakha Braha’s compositions can be called songs. But this is what invigorates when you are sad, and lights up when you need a drive. Why is Malevich’s «Black Square» an art? The black square is a manifesto! With one black canvas, Malevich showed the path that the artist goes through in his creative search from realism to abstraction. The «Black Square» is the starting point, after which either a new round begins, or walking in a circle. Once I faced my own «black square», and I decided not to limit myself to the plane of canvas or paper and took a step towards

The Oleksienko Architects studio has developed and implemented the project of an urban family villa among the private buildings in Kyiv. The site is located on a slope and offers a view of the park, immersing the residents of the villa and their guests in the crowns of trees. In Villa Apis, the power of wildlife has combined with the advantages of the city, creating a formula for a new quality of life. The authors of the project took into account a wide variety of factors, including difficult terrain, functional and other wishes of customers.

The author’s idea to create special comfort zones that flow into each other, like the decks of a ship, significantly influenced the quality of the villa. Each deck was endowed with its own function, both in the interior and throughout the territory. Complex architectural and design solutions required a large height difference across the site. This largely determined the nature of the layout. This country house is located in a picturesque place in the Vinnitsa region. From the gazebo, from the terrace and even from the living room with a glass facade, there is a stunning view of the Southern Bug River and the slopes along it. Closeness to nature is one of the

main values of the Vin House project. The landscape here changes from season to season, and sometimes even within one day. Here you can see incredible sunsets and sunrises over the river. And also the morning fog, when a white haze swirls and rises from the water, creeps up the hills and approaches the transparent railing of the gazebo. The challenge of the project was the timing: 11 months passed from pouring the foundation to settling in the owners. Building a monolithicframe house, equipping it and preparing it for life is a lot of work

Bogdanova Bureau founder Olga Bogdanova says that initially the deadline seemed unrealistic to her. We managed to invest in it thanks to the close-knit work of all contracting organizations. The interior of the house is subordinated to functional tasks, each element in it is justified by internal logic, the decor is practically absent. All communications are integrated into the Smart Home system. This approach reflects the personalities of the owners of the house - rational people who can effectively plan

their lives and are focused on technological solutions. Vin House has two floors. On the first floor there are common areas and part of the living rooms. On the second floor there is an office, a guest room, a bathroom, a children’s playroom, as well as a spacious terrace. The building is located on a hill and deployed to the river. The entrance group is organized so that you can transit to the open terrace. The façade, directed towards the river slope, has continuous glazing through which opens a picturesque view of the site and the reservoir.

domiinterier.com / дом и интерьер

The house is surrounded by a spacious terrace. It has a beach area with sun loungers, a dining area and a small enfilade mini-garden with trees, shrubs and lawn grass. For maximum solitude, meditation and immersion in the contemplation of nature, there is a special place - a gazebo raised above the slope. The house is turned to the south, and it was important to think over effective protection from the sun, so that in winter its rays would penetrate the room, and in summer they would not blind

151

and heat the space inside. Partially, this task is performed by the removal of the structure of the second floor, and the Manezh sun protection system has been installed in the rest of the areas. The living room became the heart of the interior. It has an elegant hanging fireplace, lowered from the ceiling. Above the fireplace there is a lamp made of brass pipes, reminiscent of the traditional Chinese decor «Wind Music». This lamp was created by the design bureau specifically for the Vin House project.

152

Private interior

Living rooms in the house resemble the apartments of a good hotel: comfortable, thoughtful, emotionally neutral. One of the decorative accents of the interior is the landscaping placed on the console around the glass railings of the second floor. The house is functionally divided into two parts. East contains living rooms, kitchen and dressing room. In the middle there is a patio for a family tree where a perennial oak tree is planted. In the western part there is a SPA zone and a swimming pool. The 16 meter outdoor swimming pool was one of the most technically challenging elements of the project. A team of engineers worked on its implementation.

In order for the pool to be used all year round, it was necessary to adjust the supply and heating of water in such a way that there was no temperature difference between the water inside and outside. The end of the pool is made of glass so that while in the water you can admire the scenery. “The project was launched before the COVID pandemic, but right now it has become obvious how much the value of a comfortable life outside the city has grown. In the light of new events, the world is changing. Today, a private cottage with a thoughtful place for work and leisure, with a swimming pool, convenient layout and integration of the latest technologies, gives a completely different quality of life than an apartment in the city,” says architect Olga Bogdanova.

The authors of the project say: Simplicity and functionality were the two main wishes of the customer. Our task was to use a minimum of decor and various types of finishing materials. This made it possible to make the apartment as comfortable as possible for the client’s lifestyle.

For example, the walls are simply painted white, and thanks to the panoramic windows and the location of the house, they take on a new shade every day with the sunset. No bright textures or elements, only basic colors - the interior was not supposed to distract the client from his life.

Even the accent cabinet in the living room, made of stainless steel, reflects the shades of the interior and merges with the entire apartment. In this building, the kitchen was located between two load-bearing walls, and we could not enlarge it. The kitchen is small, so the working area is hidden behind sliding facades. This makes it easy to hide all dirty dishes and kitchen utensils when guests suddenly arrive.

This part of the interior is characterized by a restrained and light mood. The brutal concrete ceiling is balanced by the warm wooden texture of the floor. Thanks to the panoramic windows in the morning and during the day, the apartment is filled with natural light; for the evening and night time, the authors of the project used several lighting scenarios. The living area is adjacent to the dining room and kitchen.

The creation of this apartment began with emotions. At the first meeting with the designer, future customers told about a recent trip to Austria, where they lived in a chalet for several days. The story was so emotional that the houses on the Alpine slopes became a guide for Yury Zimenko in developing a concept for an apartment in a new residential complex in Kyiv.

“What is the main feature of the chalet? Lots of natural wood. And the wood in the interior is an excellent backdrop for color experiments, which I resort to from time to time. We seized on this idea and tried to reveal it as much as possible in the interior space,” says Yury Zimenko. The designer finalized the original layout of the apartment. The center of the apartment was taken under the living area, combined with a kitchen and dining room. Two bedrooms and bathrooms are adjacent. A place for them was found due to the spacious corridor.

The main emphasis in interior design was made on textures: wood, metal, stone, natural textiles and fur upholstery. And also - on color accents and art objects from Ukrainian artists. Most of the furniture in the apartment is also Ukrainian made. “We set ourselves the task of creating a modern space with an atmosphere that customers could call “their home”. For this, tactile materials and a rich palette were used. And since we worked on complete trust and in one breath with the customers, everything we planned was possible, ”recalls designer Yuri Zimenko.

Second place in the nomination «Interior of an apartment in a modern style from 100 to 150 square meters». Location: Kyiv, Ukraine Total area: 207 sq.m. Realization: 2020

Plan-scheme

Rina Lovko Studio Photographer: Evgeny Avramenko

The author of the project says: A distinctive feature of the apartment in a new residential complex in the center of Kiev - radial walls. The non-standard design of the space has created certain difficulties both in the design and in the implementation of the project. But at the same time it caused us professional excitement. The customer dreamed of a modern, functional living space. But at the same time not dry and strict, but cozy and with bright accents. Although the total area is quite large - 207 square meters, due to the complex geometry standard techniques didn’t work here. Each solution was developed individually.

In plan, the apartment is part of a circle divided into sections. We have combined several sections into a living room-dining room-kitchen-hallway. In the next room there is a bedroom with two entrances: from the main corridor and the dining area. Another section was taken for the dressing room with a make-up area by the window, two terracotta cabinets, an island chest of drawers and a display cabinet made according to our sketches. To increase the illumination of dark areas, part of the walls were replaced by glass partitions with built-in doors, allowing daylight to reach the most remote corners of the apartment. Behind such a partition was placed the owner’s bathroom.

Based on the principles of minimalism, we deliberately hid everything superfluous. For example, storage systems and an electrical panel were hidden behind the panels at the entrance to the apartment. In order to unload the main space from cabinets and household items, several hidden areas were organized: additional dressing rooms, laundry room and guest bathroom. Even TVs were abandoned. Instead, the apartment uses projectors, and the screens for projecting images and videos are the walls of the bedroom and living room. The profession of clients obliged to pay special attention to the kitchen. The big island was conceived as a place for meetings with friends and collective cooking. Its countertop was covered with Mutina terracotta tiles. In the main kitchen, we abandoned the idea of the upper cabinets, moving storage to the lower blocks. All cabinet furniture for this object is made according to our sketches.

The finishing concept is to preserve the exposed concrete of the columns and ceiling, which we covered with a translucent lacquer. The microcement floor visually corresponds with them. What we wanted to avoid was boiling white. Therefore, the walls have a warm beige hue. A terracotta kitchen, a sky blue dining table and a green bedside table set the color accents in the space. Despite the strict forms and a minimum of furnishings, the space turned out to be quite cozy.

Francesco Melzi - Portrait of Leonardo

LEONARDO DA VINCI Leonardo da Vinci (Italian: Leonardo da Vinci; April 15, 1452, Anciano, near Florence (Tuscany) - May 2, 1519, Castle of Clo-Luce, Amboise) - Italian artist (painter, sculptor, architect) and scientist (anatomist, naturalist), inventor, writer, musician, one of the greatest representatives of the art of the High Renaissance, an outstanding example of a «universal man».

Today, Leonardo is best known as an artist. In addition, it is possible that da Vinci could be a sculptor: researchers from the University of Perugia Giancarlo Gentilini and Carlo Tsizi - claim that the terracotta head they found in 1990 is the only sculptural work of Leonardo da Vinci that preserved to our times. However, Da Vinci himself in different periods of his life considered himself first and foremost an engineer or scientist. He did not devote much time to the fine arts and worked slowly. Therefore, Leonardo’s artistic heritage is small in number, and a number of his works are lost or significantly damaged. However, his contribution to world art culture is extremely important even against the background of the cohort of geniuses given by the Italian Renaissance.

«Madonna of Camaldo», (between 1450 and 1488) «Madonna of Camaldo», (between 1450 and 1488) Thanks to his works, the art of painting has entered a qualitatively new stage of its development. Renaissance artists resolutely rejected the many conventions of medieval art. This was a trend towards realism and much was achieved in the study of perspective, anatomy, greater freedom in compositional decisions. But in terms of painting, work with paint, the artists were quite conditional and constrained. The line in the picture clearly outlined the subject, and the image looked like a painted picture. The most conditional was the landscape, which played a secondary role. Leonardo realized and embodied a new painting technique. His line has the right to blur, because that’s how we see it. He realized the effects of light scattering in the air and the formation of a haze (sfumato) between the viewer and the depicted object, which softens color contrasts and lines. As a result, realism in painting has reached a qualitatively new level.

Leonardo was the first to explain why the sky is blue. In his book On Painting, he wrote: “The blue sky is due to the thickness of the illuminated air particles, which is located between the Earth and is black above.” Leonardo did not leave a single self-portrait that could be unequivocally attributed to him. Scholars have doubted that Leonardo’s famous Sanguine self-portrait (traditionally dated 1512-1515) depicting him in old age is as follows. It is believed that this may be just a sketch of the apostle’s head for the Last Supper. Doubts that this is a self-portrait of the artist have been expressed since the 19th century, most recently by one of Leonardo’s greatest experts, Professor Pietro Marani. Italian scientists have announced the discovery of an early self-portrait of Leonardo da Vinci. The discovery belongs to journalist Pierrot Angelo. Leonardo masterfully played the lyre. When Leonardo’s case was heard in a Milan court, he appeared there as a musician, not as an artist or inventor.

The Vitruvian Man is a famous drawing by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, accompanied by explanatory inscriptions; made in about 1490 and published in one of his journals. It depicts the figure of a naked man in two superimposed positions: with outstretched arms and legs, inscribed in a circle; with arms outstretched and legs together, inscribed in a square. Drawing and explanations of it are sometimes called canonical proportions. The picture is written in pen, ink and watercolor with a metal pencil, its dimensions are 34.3 × 24.5 centimeters. It is in the collection of the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice. The rediscovery of the mathematical proportions of the human body in the 15th century by Da Vinci and other scholars was one of the great achievements of the Italian Pre-Renaissance.

The image itself is often used as an implicit symbol of the inner symmetry of the human body and the universe as a whole. When studying the pattern, you can see that the combination of arms and legs actually gives two different positions. The pose with arms outstretched and legs together fits into the square. On the other hand, the pose with outstretched arms and legs fits in a circle. Upon closer examination, it turns out that the center of the circle is the navel of the figure, and the center of the square is the genitals. Later, using the same method, Le Corbusier compiled his scale of proportion - Modulor, which influenced the aesthetics of architecture of the 20th century.

MAISON&OBJET MAISON&OBJET, MARCH 2022: AN EDITION MARKED BY DYNAMIC INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS, CONFIRMING THE ATTRACTIVENESS OF INSPIRING EVENTS.

It was in a positive business climate once again that the doors of the decor, design and lifestyle fair closed at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre. This second post-pandemic session, which was moved from January to March in order to be held under satisfactory sanitary conditions, leaves no doubt as to the everyone’s desire to finally meet at Maison&Objet to exchange ideas, make discoveries and sense market trends, «in person». International visitors return to Maison&Objet The return of foreign visitors to Maison&Objet Paris was one of the main highlights of this edition: 1 in 3 visitors came from abroad, up 36.7% over the September edition. This vast proportion affirmed the choice of exhibitors who chose to wait two months longer to launch their new products, and compensated those French retailers, who prepared their season months ahead. Many of them met new export-market customers. Nearly 1,800 British visitors, who were not present in September because of travel restrictions, were eager to browse the aisles of the fair; similarly, more than 850 North Americans and nearly 1,100 Middle Easterners, as well as 200 firms and wealthy visitors from India, were in attendance to place orders.

Another indicator of the excitement surrounding the fair was the number of orders placed by specifiers (34% of visitors) and by the hospitality industry (nearly 2,500 professionals). Equally, aware that the supply-chain delays and inflation experienced in recent months may continue until the end of the year, the retail sector came to prepare for early September through the end of the year! With 7 halls and Maison&Objet In the City (a new

itinerary in Paris that showcased nearly 90 prestigious showrooms), the fair has successfully brought together the entire industry, mixing loyal brands showcasing new products with carefully curated new brands worth noticing. The fair was also an amplifier for brands which were not present with traditional stands. Indeed, through the What’s New? trend spaces, designed by Elizabeth Leri-
