119TH GOLD RACQUETS

The Rackets singles saw Peter Cipriano continue his dominance of this event with a straight forward victory over Tuxedo’s Guy Devereux in the Final (Devereux may have been giving away almost two decades to his younger opponent)

Quality rackets displayed by both players but Cipriano was just too strong in all aspects of a three games to love victory.

Rackets Spittoon Results:

The 2023 Spittoon doubles saw teams put into round robins for the preliminary rounds with the top two teams from each round robin going through to the semi-finals.

The Rackets court saw players from The Tuxedo Club, New York Racquet & Tennis Club, Philadelphia Racquet Club, Montreal Racquet Club, Seacourt and the Tennis & Racquet Club of Boston.

There were no surprises in terms of the four teams in the semifinals although the young pairing of Max Trueman and Dawson Chisholm lost 17/14 in a nail-biter of a match to Peter Roessler and Ben Hudson to miss out on moving through

Semi-final results saw Peter Cipriano & Chris Heffernan defeat Shep Skiff & Steve Klepper 2/0, along with John Beam & Phil Stockton defeating Peter Roessler and Ben Hudson by an identical 2/0 score

Cipriano & Heffernan defended their Spittoon title with a 15/10 15/5 victory.

A BLACK TIE EVENING

On Saturday evening following a jam-packed day of court tennis and rackets, the players and fans took a break from the action to don tuxedos and evening dresses for the Club's signature Gold Racquets black tie event

Upon entering the Main Club, party goers were greeted by an ice sculpture of two crossed racquets and filled champagne glasses for everyone Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails followed as players and guests chatted about the day’s events and the evening to come

Next it was on to the ballroom with tables set for 156 and the band ready to rock it out in the center Everyone danced to the amazing tunes played by ‘The Eleven’ and enjoyed a three-course meal featuring seared scallops, sole and lobster Florentine, and petit filet of beef.

Party goers danced with espresso martinis in hand until 12:30 am and it is rumored an after party concluded at 4 am The 7:30am match on Sunday came very early for some!

A great time was certainly had by all
