5SOS3 ERA BEGINS To this point, every year in 5SOS’s history has been their biggest yet. However, 2018 completely redirected the trajectory of the band. After a brief hiatus, 5SOS were back for their best and biggest year. It all began in February when fans noticed the band account’s Twitter header changing colors. Throughout the course of a few hours, suddenly, what was once white and black changed to purple, indicating the beginning of what was deemed the 5SOS3 era. Then on February 22, 5SOS released the debut single off their third studio album – Want You Back. Shortly after, the band embarked on the 5SOS III Tour (originally called the Vibes Tour), which would allow them to get back on the road and play intimate shows with just a few thousand fans in attendance. Beginning March 20, the band kicked off the tour in Stockholm, Sweden, at Debaser Strand, where fans first heard many songs on the soon-to-be-released 5SOS3 album, including Talk Fast, Moving Along and Youngblood, among others. Then in April, the band announced that their newest album would be called Youngblood. Days later, 5SOS released the third album’s title track, and in just a few months, this single would be the biggest of the band’s career.

10 Years Of 5SOS

2018 TOP OF THE CHARTS During the first half of the year, 5SOS was in full promo mode. From joining The Voice to Jimmy Fallon and BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, they worked overtime to ensure the success of their third album. Finally, on June 15, Youngblood was shared with the world. As a fan during release week, this felt like a monumental moment for the band, especially as they competed for the top-charting spot against Jay-Z and Beyonce. Fans bought tens of albums trying to secure first place, and that dedication paid off as Youngblood topped the Billboard chart. This achievement earned them the honor of being the first band to have their first three albums reach the number one spot. In late 2018, 5SOS took yet another trip around the world, playing longer, bigger shows on the Meet You There Tour. During this time, Youngblood (the single) slowly started creeping back up the Billboard chart. Radio stations were playing it, the general public started to recognize the song, and other artists were covering it. All of that amassed to a perfect week where Youngblood was at the top of the Billboard chart – a new accomplishment for the band. Throughout the remainder of 2018, 5SOS played a ton of shows, won awards and released Meet You There Live. It was 11 months of nonstop work, touring and promoting, but without a doubt, the most memorable year of the band’s career.

MEET THE FANS Lynnsey S. (@takemealivelrh) Lynnsey first became a 5SOS fan between 2012 and 2013. Her dad introduced them to her when their songs from the Somewhere New EP had landed into his Top 40 new music playlist. He plugged her iPod into the computer and told her to give them a listen, and she instantly became a fan. Throughout the years, Lynnsey has seen 5SOS a total of 22 times. She has seen them in Wallingford, CT for the Stars, Stripes and Maple Syrup Tour; in Foxboro, MA on the Where We Tour when they opened for One Direction; at multiple shows at Mohegan Sun Arena; at the Today Show in New York City; and many other times. Some of her favorite 5SOS moments are when she saw them soundcheck for the Today Show in 2018 and celebrating the release of Youngblood in New York City. Also, every interaction that she’s had with the band has been very special. The first time she met them was outside of her town’s radio station in 2018. Lynnsey wants other fans to know that you will meet them someday as well! The best thing about 5SOS for Lynnsey is their passion. They put their all into their music and live performances. Her favorite place to be is at a 5SOS concert - the energy the band puts into every performance is amazing to see live. She also really admires how comfortable they are with themselves. Her favorite 5SOS songs are Disconnected and Old Me. If Lynnsey could tell 5SOS anything, it would be thank you. She wants to thank them for changing her life and helping her be the best version of herself. She has had the honor of growing up alongside the band, and they have shaped a lot of her experiences. She will never be able to thank them enough for the happiness they have brought to her life.

10 Years Of 5SOS

Lynnsey wanted her story to specifically be put into the 2018 issue because that year was very special for her and the band. She was fortunate enough to see the band six times over the span of two weeks during the Youngblood release week. She also graduated high school in that same week, an achievement that was accomplished because 5SOS motivated her and kept her going. 2018 will always hold a special place in her heart.
