ON THE ROAD AGAIN 2015 was destined to be a massive year for 5SOS as they were planning on bringing their debut album to life through a 69 show tour across the world. However, before the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour kicked off, the band visited Japan to headline their first-ever show in the country. They were greeted with a very warm welcome from hundreds of fans at the airport. While in Japan, 5SOS opened for a few of One Direction’s On The Road Again Tour shows in Saitama. After well over a hundred shows and a few trips around the world, this would be the last time the band opened up for 1D. This time set the pace for the rest of the year as 5SOS were nominated and won major industry awards, including being named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 2015: Music list, winning NME’s Worst Artist Award and the iHeart Radio Best Fan Army Award. Toward the end of March, the band’s side venture, Hi or Hey Records, also gained another artist - Hey Violet - who would go on to open for 5SOS’s upcoming tours. This time was the calm before the storm as the remainder of the year was set to be filled with shows, new singles, albums, awards and events.

ROWYSO On April 20, 5SOS was nominated at the Shorty Awards as Best Band and ended up being a finalist in this category. Calum Hood was also a finalist for the Best Musician category. Some days later, the band was nominated for Best Music Group and Most Talked About Artist at the Radio Disney Music Awards. On April 29, Ashton designed a 5SOS merch shirt. The band account tweeted: “Ash designed a T-shirt for our merch store ! you can check it out here if you want it…”. Next month, on May 4, the Rock Out With Your Socks Out (ROWYSO) tour kicked off in Lisbon, Portugal. The European leg finished on June 14 in London, after three shows at the iconic SSE Arena Wembley. Those in attendance on night two may remember that the show came to a terrifying ending as Michael ran off the stage after getting singed by nearby pyro. He was back the following night, and the tour went on without any fire on stage. On May 17, the band was nominated for Top New Artist and Top New Duo/Group at the Billboard Music Awards. Later that month, 5SOS played the main stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich, England. The setlist they played started with End Up Here. They also sang Don’t Stop, Good Girls, Amnesia, What I Like About You, and they finished their performance singing She Looks So Perfect. On May 30, the band was nominated for Favorite Pop Group and Favorite ChartTopper Song with “Don’t Stop.” They won Favorite Mellow Song with “Amnesia” at the Most Played Songs Online Awards.

THE NEW BROKEN SCENE Have you ever actually sat and watched paint dry? Well, thousands of 5SOS fans across the globe watched a three-hour livestream of a very talented artist creating a spray painting of the first single off of 5SOS’ sophomore album. The song? She’s Kinda Hot. Set to release just days after its announcement, She’s Kinda Hot established the tone of the second album - a little more mature and an evolved sound. Fans got to hear more of this progression as the U.K. and Ireland received the She’s Kinda Hot EP in August. This exclusive release featured fan-favorite songs such as Lost in Reality and Broken Pieces. In August, 5SOS also announced its second album - Sounds Good Feels Good. Those that pre-ordered automatically received a song that would turn into a longlasting fan favorite, Jet Black Heart. While 5SOS was releasing new music and getting nominated for a slew of awards, they were playing shows to thousands of fans each night. During the summer of 2015, 5SOS wrapped up their U.K. tour and played a few shows in Australia before embarking on a two-month-long tour across the U.S. Finally, the day after the ROWYSO tour ended, 5SOS released their second single from SGFG, Hey Everybody. The song was accompanied by a high-budget music video, which 5SOS repeatedly said was the most fun video to film. Just a month before their sophomore album was set to release, 5SOS began their campaign about the New Broken Scene. This idea, displayed through a broken heart being kept together with a safety pin, represented a new era in 5SOS history.

SOUNDS GOOD FEELS GOOD As 5SOS prepared for the release of SGFG, an album redefining the band and their direction, they began an extensive promotion tour. From playing BBC’s Children in Need’s One Big Night concert to CBS Radio’s We Can Survive and the Today Show, 5SOS went around the globe to spread awareness for their newest album. On October 23, 2015, 5SOS release Sounds Good Feels Good. This album featured so many beloved songs, including Waste The Night, Vapor, Outer Space / Carry On, Castaway, Broken Home, San Francisco - the list goes on. Produced by John Feldmann, Zakk Cervini and Matt Pauling, SGFG touches on many personal topics, including depression, divorce and mental health, all things millions of people face each and every day. This album gave fans an insight look into 5SOS and showed that they’re just like us. And while 2014 had Derpcon as an event to bring fans together to celebrate new 5SOS music, 2015 had The New Broken Scene - a two-night-only show in Atlanta taking place over Halloween. The guys all dressed up as new, sexier versions of themselves and renamed the band (for the evening) as 5 Seconds of Sexx. The remainder of the year was filled will award nominations, the “How Did We End Up Here” documentary release, a music video for Jet Black Heart featuring fans, joining the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball tour, and Michael getting stranded in the U.S. because he lost his passport when the rest of the band had to play a show in the U.K. 2015 helped redefine 5 Seconds of Summer and set the course for where their career would go next. While the third album wouldn’t be released for another two and a half years, the process of the ROWYSO tour and creating SGFG would eventually lead to 5SOS making their best and biggest album yet. 2015

MEET THE FANS Katelyn R (@IoneIyvapor) Katelyn became a fan of 5SOS in June 2013 when she saw them open for One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour. She found out about them through Twitter, specifically through a tweet from Louis Tomlinson and some of her mutuals tweeting about them. In the years since, Katelyn has seen the band live 19 times. Some of these times include Rock Out With Your Socks out Mansfield and Hartford, Sounds Live Feels Live Mohegan and Mansfield, Meet You There Mohegan and Boston, World War Joy Boston and Mohegan, and she’s even slept on the streets of New York City to see them on the Today Show. She plans to attend five U.S. No Shame Tour dates and No Shame Paris as well. Some of her favorite 5SOS moments would be when Youngblood went number one and just seeing them happy and thriving. The best thing about 5SOS for her is seeing how much they care about their fans. Katelyn has met them three times, and each time they have been nothing but genuinely kind. They know that the fans are the reason they are where they’re at today, and you can see that they truly appreciate each and every one of us. Her all-time favorite 5SOS song is Vapor. She just loves the lyrics, and their vocals on it are so good! If she could tell 5SOS one thing, it would be thank you. Without them, she wouldn’t be the person that she is today, they have helped her grow in more ways than they could ever know, and she is eternally grateful for that.

MEET THE FANS Ashlee R (@SoundsCalmFour) Ashlee first became a fan of the band when One Direction announced that 5SOS would be opening for them on the Take Me Home Tour. She has seen them on their Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour at Jones Beach and at Mohegan Sun during the Sounds Live Feel Live Tour. She also saw them on the Today Show in 2014. She loves when 5SOS are just being themselves, and they don’t hide behind the fame. She thinks it gives them a better connection to the fans and a glimpse into who they are, similar to what their friends and family would see. Ghost of You is Ashlee’s favorite song, as she has a very personal connection to it. If she could tell 5SOS anything, it would be thank you for everything that they have done for her through her time being a fan.
